  1. In the early 1970's there were plenty of options in london and the south east. Monday - reading Tuesday - west ham Wednesday - crayford Thursday - Wimbledon, romford Friday - hackney, oxford Saturday - wembley, canterbury, rayleigh Sunday - eastbourne, rye house. Those were the days!
  2. I saw Roy finish on the rostrum at west ham in the 1970 british final, possibly Roy's finest meeting.
  3. I saw Wimbledon get thrashed at Somerton park on good friday 1975. The dons team contained half of the reading team, but were no match for a rampant Newport side.
  4. Are the building works going to be completed in time for the first meeting?
  5. Well the kevlars have obviously turned up, Harris and Nicholls were wearing theirs at wolves on Sunday!
  6. you are correct steve, it must be 1974. I should know better as I also have mike's west ham bombers jacket from 1972!
  7. i've got one of those, mike sampson's from 1972. It is a classic design.
  8. gordon first rode for the dons in 1970, definitely a rider that slipped through the net as far as Wimbledon were concerned.
  9. i have two original silver jackets from 1976 Steve, Gordon Kennet's and richard greer's. I also have the red 76 and the 1978. The two I'm missing are the capital and lbc jackets from 1977. My two oxford rebels are 1974 and 75.
  10. i have two original oxford rebels race jackets in my collection, plus three different white city rebels. My west ham london jacket from 1967-71 has to be my favourite. It took me nearly a lifetime to get an original!
  11. Despite being a lifelong Wimbledon fan, west ham is my favourite track of all time. Big, fast and historic!
  12. A lot of british fans used to support the yanks in those days. I thought it was very unpatriotic at the time.
  13. Both West ham and Wimbledon charged different rates when I was a wee lad!
  14. You are right about the shortage of dogs. Wimbledon haven't been able to fill a full race card for ages. Both speedway and greyhound racing are sports in decline.
  15. I remember having a look around the then derelict perry Barr stadium which is the current home of the brummies, before attending a meeting at the ladbrokes perry Barr stadium in the 1980's. Confusing isn't it!
  16. How's the work progressing at the launch pad shads, is it going to be ready for April 1st.
  17. he would have to be a lunatic to be impressed with the current state of british speedway!
  18. I spoke to barry at paradise park yesterday. The damage is mainly door frames and locks plus some electrical equipment stolen. All this still adds up to a few quid, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
  19. Anywhere in London or Surrey, where I live now.
  20. the totaliser board was listed at catford as well. It dissapeared along with the stadium.
