In the early 1970's there were plenty of options in london and the south east.
Monday - reading
Tuesday - west ham
Wednesday - crayford
Thursday - Wimbledon, romford
Friday - hackney, oxford
Saturday - wembley, canterbury, rayleigh
Sunday - eastbourne, rye house.
Those were the days!
I saw Wimbledon get thrashed at Somerton park on good friday 1975. The dons team contained half of the reading team, but were no match for a rampant Newport side.
i have two original silver jackets from 1976 Steve, Gordon Kennet's and richard greer's. I also have the red 76 and the 1978. The two I'm missing are the capital and lbc jackets from 1977. My two oxford rebels are 1974 and 75.
i have two original oxford rebels race jackets in my collection, plus three different white city rebels. My west ham london jacket from 1967-71 has to be my favourite. It took me nearly a lifetime to get an original!
You are right about the shortage of dogs. Wimbledon haven't been able to fill a full race card for ages. Both speedway and greyhound racing are sports in decline.
I remember having a look around the then derelict perry Barr stadium which is the current home of the brummies, before attending a meeting at the ladbrokes perry Barr stadium in the 1980's. Confusing isn't it!
I spoke to barry at paradise park yesterday. The damage is mainly door frames and locks plus some electrical equipment stolen. All this still adds up to a few quid, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
