  1. the eagles will also be going head to head with rye house and lakeside on most Saturdays. For someone like me who is a regular at all three venues, hard choices will have to be made!
  2. That's a relief. I wouldn't want anything to hold up the project!
  3. Any updates on the progress of the new rosco arena.
  4. I've stirred up a right Hornets nest now. I won't be asking for a refund, I'm a gooner!
  5. I went to southampton v arsenal on Saturday which was excellent value at £15, especially if you are a gunners fan!
  6. The last home league match for the outlaws in 1980 was on the 4/10 against Berwick. That was my first ever visit to station road. I remember getting the train to the original long eaton station, which like the stadium is long gone.
  7. From a personal point of view I have become less tolerant as I get older. Seeing as the vast majority of speedway fans seem to be in my age bracket, unnecessary delays are unacceptable to most of us. Despite footballs many failings, the sport runs like clockwork, which Makes it appealing to me.
  8. It's good to know that the traffic delays on Fridays for NL racing will be much less than they were for EL!
  9. As a frequent visitor to west ham during my misspent youth, I must point out that custom house was closed for redevelopment a mere 44 years and 8 months ago!. Like you say losing stadiums to the developer is nothing new. Bristol knowle was one of the first big venues to go at the end of 1960, quickly followed by stoke sun street, southampton, Norwich, Edinburgh meadowbank and glasgow white city by the end of the decade.
  10. I'm afraid the speedway star is a bland publication covering a bland sport. The two go hand in hand really.
  11. Has anybody got the full line up for Michael Coles 1st testimonial meeting staged at Edinburgh on 2/10/92. Thanks.
  12. Another important factor will be the race night. I just hope it's not Sunday evenings, rye tried that last year, with very disappointing attendances.
  13. The biggest advantage darts and snooker have over speedway is they aren't affected by the weather. The mere threat of rain is enough to decimate the crowd at most meetings.
  14. The main problem for lakeside is, competing with top flight speedway just down the road at hoddesdon. If I could only afford one meeting a week, I know where I would go.
  15. The decline started for me when I was a kid. In the south east in the space of a couple of years I lost west ham, wembley, romford, rayleigh and reading as league venues. Although the racers returned in a different stadium it's been mainly downhill ever since.
  16. Individual meetings were considered financially un viable as early as 1929. Team racing has been the back bone of the sport in this country since then.
  17. That level of damage would put most clubs out of business.
  18. What a sorry state of affairs, how can we expect anyone to take the sport seriously.
  19. The vast majority of last seasons eastbourne home programmes were sell outs. Not because of big crowds, but due to a ludicrously small print run.
  20. Len has always been a bit like that. Build it up, then watch it fall down.
