Dave missed the wolves leg of the play off final because of another marathon journey to watch football. I reckon his grounds visited total must have been At least 4000.
I've just been told the sad news that Dave Rattenberry passed away today. The rat and I go back a long way. I first met him on a tee mill tour over 35 years ago. I'm glad I saw him at wolves a few weeks ago, and had a chat. RIP Dave it's been great to know you.
Original Race jackets can be very hard to replace. In the past year I've obtained genuine Wembley jackets from 1970 & 71. They were the first I've ever seen for sale in 40 years of collecting. Both jackets came to me via friends, not the open market, which is usually the case.
No one should get a lifetime pass, the sport can't afford it. It's one thing handing a few comps out to ex riders, but freebies to anyone who wore an aces jacket is not sustainable.
It was all done and dusted by just after 7.30 and I was back home in Surrey by 10. I was up for work at 4.30 this morning, but it was a great days racing yesterday and well worth the effort.
What an excellent afternoon/evenings entertainment. A decent crowd, some great racing and superb fish & chips. Well done to mildenhall for putting on a good show and well done Eastie for winning the cup.
I just want to see the track survive. From a personal point of view, I was happy in the NL. A move into the top flight, with its fixed race nights and higher costs could bankrupt the club. As Arnie said, a higher level of racing and a few familiar faces could tempt some of the fans back.
For a start, they can keep their Friday race night instead of being stuck with monday and thursday fixed nights. I would imagine the likes of kennett, ellis, morley & Zach might be nailed on for team places. Some who are lakeside assets.
I'm surprised, but I can see the reasons. Keeping the regular race night is a must, plus having an all British team to keep the costs down is vitally important.
