To be honest I'm surrised the crowd was as big as it was. The last two home meetings have been terrible attendance wise. With Monday being live on TV and no discount, I was expecting less.
It wasn't like that at belle vue on Monday morning. There was some tremendous racing to entertain the fans. Unfortunately the vast majority of the tracks are nothing like the NSS.
I have to agree with you. The actual racing isn't much different from when I was a kid. It's the great stadiums we have lost which has hurt speedway the most. How can the media take the sport seriously, when we don't have a track in our capital city.
Southend dog track was a purpose built speedway stadium bankrolled by the cearns family, but the sport was never staged there. Noise complaints from local residents was the main reason for the bikes never getting started there.
I thought the crowd was pretty decent compared to the last two meetings at rye. The track offers nothing on the inside, and the only line is around the boards. You can get good racing at rye, but a new track curator is desperately needed to achieve this.
