Poor meeting tonight on a slick and dusty track, although the closeness of the scores kept it interesting. There was a couple of decent races later in the meeting, but overall not a lot to get excited about.
I think the sport has deteriorated rapidly since Emil rode for Coventry. Without lucrative sponsorship and a big TV deal, I don't see how the top league can afford the better riders.
We have very few names in world speedway to compete with those four. The likes of woffinden might pull a few in, but the days of the speedway superstars are over.
The IOW was a bit on the dry side on Thursday, but they are suffering from poor shale. They have a mound of the stuff in the pits which they are unable to use. I gather this was sent my mistake, and not because they are poor payers.
39 - 51, nearly right. Both sides had some bad luck, but a heavy fall for Ben Morley in heat 10 ended the warriors resistance. Leon flint was very impressive on the big smallbrook track.
Too right. Sheffield and Ipswich have been running on Thursdays since the 1960's. Redcar (Middlesbrough, teesside) have also had long spells of thursday racing.
The disaster that awaited clubs that had to change race nights has filtered down to those tracks that didn't. The whole sport is bankrupt. This will be the last season of speedway in its current format.
No quotes or statements from anyone, even Rosco has nothing to say from the Swindon side. I've no doubt the powers that be have put a gagging order on things, whilst they try to sort the situation out.
