  1. Decent meeting last night against a very determined Sheffield team. Some very interesting comments by Jon cook on the current state of the sport. Makes a change to hear someone in the know, give their views.
  2. The lack of home meetings in July, is the reason people have got the hump. Why not run a few Sundays if it avoids clashing with other sporting events.
  3. Ran as a Friday track up until 1980. Rode on Sundays in NL in 1981. Reopened on Mondays in 1984.
  4. I think it's marvellous when Rosco talks, you can't see TR's lips move.
  5. Wembley, west ham, white city & Wimbledon. My speedway heart has stopped beating a few times, but I'm still here, just about hanging on.
  6. Retainers seems to be the way of the speedway world these days. How many tracks can afford to pay these, with so few coming through the gate. Rye house paid the price for such a risky strategy.
  7. I've had 4 within a few weeks, all on dry days. 1 for financial reasons, 1 for traffic congestion and 2 for football. How can promoters expect fans to turn up when they keep pulling the plug. Isn't the fixture list fragmented enough.
  8. There are a lot of unhappy bunnies on the eagles Facebook page. I've got lakeside tomorrow and Kent on Monday, so I'll get my fix elsewhere.
  9. Well they might as well cancel every Saturday Brighton are at home, that must knock a few off the gate.
  10. Well I'm a football fan and a speedway fan. I'm going to give borehamwood f.c. my money instead, for their match against the Arsenal!
  11. Yet another meeting bites the dust this Saturday. Eastbourne's home match against mildenhall has been postponed because of England playing in the third place play off. Who really cares about this non event, I'd rather have gone to see some live speedway.
  12. I think the actual land is owned by lea valley park. Getting planning permission to pull it down for residential use might be difficult. One of my mates has always said It might end up as a boating marina type of development.
  13. Fits in well with speedways current image. A sport from a bygone age.
  14. Less is more is the new motto for British speedway.
  15. Last season rye only staged 7 meetings on their preferred Saturday race night. The rest were run on Mondays and Wednesday's.
  16. There are plans to stage some dragons amateur meetings at rye. Wether this happens or not, who knows. I think the first one is scheduled for the end of the month.
  17. One home meeting in a month, when we are enjoying our best summer since 1976 says it all really. If people won't come when the sun shines, they never will.
  18. I saw Nathan stoneman team ride home Alex spooner at Kent last night. So the art is still alive, you just don't see it very often!
  19. If you charge top dollar for a crap product then people won't pay it. Wether it's in a department store, a food outlet or speedway. Joe public has had enough and is walking away. The promoters are not capable of grasping this.
  20. Well before my time. I didn't go to my first meeting until September 1968. The firs looked like a good track though.
  21. One of my local clubs rye house have gone. Lakeside and Eastbourne have one home meeting this month. What the hell is going on, do the promoters want to kill off what little fan base they have left. At least Len still runs regular meetings at Kent. No traffic jams tonight, please!
  22. I have to agree, I know very few. The population has changed so much over the last 20 years, with a lot of Londoners moving out. I migrated to Surrey a couple of years ago, but I still work in London.
