Too right, punch ups and tantrums were a regular occurrence at speedway when I was a kid. It was like a pantomime when it was a local derby. It would have made great TV!

I have moved on. Last night I saw an excellent meeting at somerset, that produced some great racing. The match started on time at 7.30, and finished at 9pm. There was a big crowd in attendance, perfect speedway I'd say.

Once the site was sold the writing was on the wall. The crowds after a positive start have dropped off. The public want more for their money than standing in a stadium with poor facilities. After the rye house closure, this is a real kick in the teeth for fans in the South East. I attended the first ever meeting there in 1984, and I will miss the old place, and the friends I've made there over the years.

He did exclude them. It just added to the delays.

Why would they delay the meeting to get a point, when the last two heats should never have been run due to the curfew. They slowed the match down to get it abandoned, with little regard to us fans that had paid to watch their antics. With the meeting restarting at 20.10, six heats were never going to be completed in twenty minutes. They must have got a shock to see it go past cut off time. It's just a shame they got a point for their 'efforts'

You make some very valid points. What annoys me the most, is that the promoters are totally oblivious to the damage their actions are doing to the sport. Their selfish attitudes has brought speedway to its knees.

Here is my view as a neutral who was at the meeting. The track was a bit tricky at the start and no doubt contributed to the two major incidents. With a two hour curfew in place, Kent should consider employing a second ambulance to help keep delays at a minimum. Lastly with a big holiday crowd in attendance, Eastbourne's delaying tactics to slow the meeting down were a disgrace. With the sport suffering at all levels, selfish antics are the last thing speedway needs.

I remember his horrendous crash on the back straight at Wimbledon in 1980. That incident alone must have held him back a bit.

As a neutral fan that goes on average twice a week, I can afford the steak, but can't justify paying it. If you only attend your own clubs home fixtures fortnightly, the steak could become more affordable.

I'm glad I don't have to make those decisions. There will probably be casualties whatever direction the sport takes.

I can't see many middle tier clubs stepping up if it means an increase in costs. The only way is down for those top flight teams, if one league becomes a reality.

It's probably already too late for some clubs.

No home meetings in July and only two in August. In a week when their fellow seaside venues, Poole & The IOW reported their biggest crowds of the season, why are Eastbourne not running home meetings in the peak holiday season. I know a couple of dates are taken up by stock cars, but shouldn't the eagles be trying to take advantage of this exceptional summer.

One meeting at lakeside this month and NONE at Eastbourne. July has been a real struggle for us fans in the South East.

Swindon as a club, should be charged with bringing the sport into disrepute. For a disaster like this to be shown live on TV was an embarrassment for British speedway. Those responsible should be ashamed of themselves.
