Lakeside v Peterborough 10/8/18

Track and weather update on website at 3pm. -
I just thought I'd start a thread for tonight's meeting, even though the weather looks dodgy. Looks like a Home win, if it's on.

Another nail in the already overflowing speedway coffin. -
What sad news. Ronnie was one of my first speedway heroes when I was a kid in the late 1960's. He was was still a top rider when he retired from British racing.

Rye house would probably still be in business, if they'd been allowed to race on Saturdays. -
I admire your optimism. My days of travelling long distances to meetings in dodgy weather are well and truly over. I don't mind taking a punt at my local tracks, because the time and costs involved are minimal.

Minimal travelling expenses as well!

Swindon vs Leicester 08/08/18
cityrebel replied to hyabb17's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
No doubt it will be much more interesting next season when it's one big league. Will the likes of Swindon drop down to Redcars level or visa versa. It's going to be a very important winter for sure. -
If there is racing at rye next season, any prospective new promoters would have to deal with BMR, as they own the lease and the stadium.
-
Despite all of the chaos tonight, it actually was a decent meeting with some very good racing. The Steve boxall incident was a shocker, and no doubt more will be revealed In the coming days.
-
The problem I have with pre meeting junior racing is, what if there is an incident that requires the ambulance to leave the stadium. This could have a serious impact on the main event, especially if the track has a curfew in place.

Lakeside Future In Serious Doubt

With all the big meetings being awarded to Redcar, maybe the BSPA are trying to prop them up, just in case they are short on numbers. -
Poole v Eastbourne, that was a decent rivalry. Sadly missed.

RIP Bob, a member of my beloved Wimbledon dons when I was a kid. I enjoyed the three years at white city in the 1970's, even though there was not many of us. I've no doubt that Eastbourne Speedway would have shut years ago if it wasn't for Bob. Thanks for the memories.

It's not multi billion in the lower leagues though is it. Even the likes of cash strapped Leyton orient were never in danger of losing their ground. -

The insatiable demand to house an ever increasing population will put a lot of venues at risk. It's strange how these problems don't affect professional football. -

Yes, i was under the impression the stock car promoters lived on site. -

When the stock car promotion move out in November, I would imagine the whole site will be unoccupied. A security firm would then have to be employed to keep the place secure. Who is going to pay for this, surely not the lakeside management. I think the costs in being the sole tennants would be prohibitive for the speedway alone. -
Like you say, it's all about opinions. I've never liked Ipswich from my first visit there in 1976. Despite the recent track changes, it rarely produces great racing when I visit. Perhaps I'm just unlucky.

I thought it was a decent meeting to be honest, I've seen a lot worse. The crowd was up on previous weeks, which was good to see.

Gonna be more than three. The home cup and shield matches against Peterborough have got to be arranged. -

I will still go to Eastbourne and Kent, plus a few trips to the island. Losing Rye and Lakeside would be the biggest loss to me geographicly since Oxford and Reading shut in 2007/8.
