  1. My lad rode second halves and training tacks for a period of 19 months from beginning of 2006 into 2007 which was Armadale - Friday night, Redcar or Northside - all day Saturday then Berwick on a Saturday night every week and it cost me best part of £14,000 over the 19 months and that wasn't including what his sponsers gave him!!!, this included running 2 bikes (125cc's mind) training track cost's and fuel for the van, and he decided to pack it in to play football. If you could calculate the cost of time then try put a price on getting bikes ready all day thursday, out the house Friday 4pm -11.30pm, up at 4.30am on the saturday and getting home at midnight saturday night and add it to the 14k already spent! Fuel has also gone up in recent times so dread to think what it would be costing me now Hope this helps with the insight your looking for
  2. Why is it away off the mark?? License's are set in 4 age brackets as per the BSPA rules correct? So why can't there be 4 different age championships? (albeit if the numbers are there for each age bracket) Which request's did I make that are way beyond recognition? Regards Graeme
  3. Much has been written much has been said about the state of Britsh Speedway at Grass root's Level (ie. Under 15's and so on) Here's something to think about! This has been written from the heart (I have no alegience to any age group as my 11 year old jacked it in in June this Year!) Under 15's is classed in 4 groups as per Speedway rule 19.5 up to 8th Birthday - 80cc aged 9 & 10 - 125cc aged 11,12 & 13 - 250cc aged 14 & 15 - 500cc For 2008 Championships are for each class over 8 rounds! Everyone who enters takes (no rider is refused entry due to ability) part in a GP style British Under 8's, 10's,13's and 15's over the 8 rounds depending on their age. Each round for all the classes take place on the same day's! This is hypothetical but should be possible!! Round 1 - ******** March **th 2008 Round 2 - ******** April **th 2008 Round 3 - ******** May **th 2008 Round 4 - ******** June **th 2008 Round 5 - ******** July **th 2008 Round 6 - ******** August **th 2008 Round 7 - ******** September **th 2008 Round 8 - ******** October **th 2008 The rider with the most points from all the rounds is the under ?? champion for 2008 for each class, with riders progressing up through the ranks as they get older. Now the hard part, each round would be at a different track either EL,PL or CL as long as no meetings take place on the same track twice! I know in the Pl clubs have preference over other clubs for race days due to time in the league so that free's up some day's during the season! would imagine it's the same for EL & CL ? With this in mind I'm sure all 8 meetings could be accomodated over the season. Now I here you say who is gojng to travel the country to do this due to work etc and cost!! Here's the nitty gritty bit! Rider's could be paid 5p/mile (or to be decided) and have fuel/oil provided at the track courtesy of Sponsers who would be backing the younsters for the whole season to help with the cost! Entrance fee's (from the gate receipts) to each Round could go towards paying for the use of each track/medic cover etc and towards travel cost's of each rider! I would even go as far to run it with the correct commitee and backing from the BSPA and parent's of this countries future stars! Your Thought's would be appreciated? Regards Graeme p.s If anyone from the Forum, BSPA,Potential Sponsors, Parents or Fan's would like to discuss this more please feel free to contact me at graememartin30@aol.com

  9. Latest News on Sean Paterson Sean has had his right elbow stitched, he has also done his ligaments in his right ankle for which he's been given crutches to use for 48 hours, then he's to get himself mobile again and on his feet. First reports of a broken bone in his hand/wrist have not been confirmed by x-rays and he is able to get about on his crutches. He is hoping to be back riding in approx 10-13 days time if everything heals well
  10. Having seen Dale Lamb ride his new 250 (and have a horrific crash last week at Redcar he is ok and the bike is beeing fixed )Track time is what is needed to help bring these youngsters on. My son who is only 9 has been riding regularly with Dale on a Friday night at Edinburgh, a Saturday afternoon at Northside Training track (Workington) then they travel over to Berwick to ride on a Saturday night, They have also been doing Redcar's Training session on a Saturday afternoon the last few weeks instead of Northside on their 125's. Their commitment is unquestionable, a saturday usually consists of a 400 odd mile round trip at 2 different tracks with limited backing from the sponsors they have and none from the speedway world as a whole. The Edinburgh Promotion are good with them and allowed the same track time as evey other rider who turns up for the second half. At Northside they also get treated equally even when Premier League Riders are in attendance and have mini heats with up to four on the track at the one time from the tapes. Brian Havelock and Glyn Taylor at Redcar are excellent with the younsters, they take the time to show and explain to them exactly what they should be doing and where they should be riding on the track, most of all they are encouraged. At times at Berwick the younsters are sacrificed in order for the older ones to have the extra ride due to time restrictions, having said that they accomodated my son when he started and coulnd't even get his feet on the ground, after clearence from the referee's they let him start from the pit gate while the rest go from the tapes . All in all they have ridden together since January along with other younsters Jordan Brown and young Danny that travels to Northside where the racing has been slow at times but compeditive and safe all on 125 bikes. These kids do have spills like everyone else but they bounce back up and get on with it like the pro's This is the future of British Speedway but there's a limited amount of people and Clubs willing to put in the time to help bring them on. If these kids are to make into League racing and beyond then it'll be down to their parents and the people willing to back them not the powers to be who run the sport in this country who are always preaching about the lack of younsters and wont do anything to help them! As we know the Swede's run the 80cc league so.......... why can't the Brits run one or an 80cc championship? then a 125 championship then a 250 champioship then they would move onto the under 15's on 500cc With the way they have restricted the licenses this year it looks to be the only way forward or in a couple of years time there wont be an under 15's Championship as the younsters will have dried up coming through!
