Good to see Dan Greenwood, if it is the Dan I know, back in the saddle since it was a great loss to British Speedway when as ex U15 champion, he retired from the sport. Nice lad, and hopefully he has come back with renewed vigour after the knockbacks previously experienced whilst trying to establish himself in the NL. Sam Woods also seems to have got some praise for his riding yesterday so his spring and summer spent in Denmark with the unlimited practice faciilities and coaching assistance over there seem to have paid off for the Woods family. Also a brave move by Newport to bring in this Vultures race to try and blood new riders. Well done. -
Sheffield V Belle Vue Colts 6thoct
Great Central replied to boston five's topic in National League Speedway
Track staff worked hard to get it rideable. When the skies cleared it looked promising and with a bit more grading, we could have had a match. Then the black rain clouds came and that was that. Hope that you enjoyed your carvery whilst watching us silly sods trying to get bikes ready for racing!! -
Sheffield V Belle Vue Colts 6thoct
Great Central replied to boston five's topic in National League Speedway
Actually it has got a lot to do with it. It was all about the spirit in which BV went back into the NL, and they didn't want to kick off the season racing against a team with just one reserve. Nobody likes to see that spectacle. Interesting to read your comments about the track being rideable after blading - it did look better but it was far from safe with shale piled up against the home and back straight fences ready to catch a riders footrest, a massive hole just short of the start line, and floods on bend 2 and 3. I think had it not rained again, it could have been made rideable but it was no means dry and safe up to that point but that is all irrelevent because it p****d it down almost straight after ALL the riders were ready to go with bikes warmed up including Jason Garrity who only went along to watch. -
Mildenhall V Stoke Nl Po Sf 2nd Leg
Great Central replied to andy1967's topic in National League Speedway
Oh dear another round of play off postings but you are true and it seems to happen too frequently, and is not helped by the fact that guest riders are limited in the NL so once you loose a key rider who is not your No1, then you begin to creak.. -

Belle Vue V Sheffield Playoff Semi
Great Central replied to Rob B's topic in National League Speedway
Come on you Belle Vue supporters, now is the time to show your support for the Colts. Great weather, track should have been prepared well although with this sun, it is going to be hard to keep moisture in it, and two teams fighting to get into the Play Off finals to race against Stoke or Mildenhall. Let's show what support we can muster - there shouldn't be many from the opposition since they don't know who they are supporting!!! Sheffield, Scunthorpe or is it Scunfield?? -

That is one hell of a schedule. Best of luck with the weather and machine reliability. Looking forward to the meeting(s) at Leicester, especially the second one!! -
Dudley Sign A 43 Year Old!
Great Central replied to SarahLapworth's topic in National League Speedway
Great "debut" from Mark aand having met him at the Leicester v Dudley challenge match for the first time, one of his objectives in riding again was to show that you don't have to spend a fortune on machinery to win. I am not sure one meeting can provide a fair assessment and not being there, I don't know if it was his bike or not, but well done to Mark anyway on what looked like a great evening for you. -
Malcolm, You know the rules better than most and I suspected that you had declared Tim to the BSPA within the deadline of the 12th September, but 1) It is strange that Stoke chose to delay the press announcement until 7 days after the deadline raising doubts about the timing. 2) My reading of the rules is that you could only use Tim if one of your other riders was not available and that wouldn't because you sacked Ben Reade 3) Whilst there is never room for emotion and loyality within speedway, I consider it morally wrong to kick out a lad that has been with you from the start of the season, done a very reasonable job for you at reserve in his 1st full season and will definitely miss out on a chance of a lifetime ie possibly being part of the winning team both of the league, the Play Offs and the KO cup. I have the utmost respect for your knowledge and experience in the game, the same for Dave Tattum, but not sure if I could live with myself having made such a decision. I suppose that is why I don't run a speedway team!!! Martin

And what happened to Rule 17.6.4 - "no team changes after 12th September unless it is for riders returning from injury". To me that is quite clear unless Stoke did redeclare prior to the 12th and have only just issued the Press Release. Feel sorry for Ben who seems to have done a good job for Stoke this year and will miss out on the play offs, and possibly the play off final.

Bv Colts V Newport 7th September
Great Central replied to Great Central's topic in National League Speedway
Hackney do indeed need 4 points from their remaining 2 matches with BV scoring nothing from their meeting with Newport on Sunday. If Hackney fail to gain a point at Stoke on Saturday then BV go through to the play offs I think. -
The Colts take on Newport in their last home league fixture of the season and will be aiming to get all three points to ensure their place in the play offs. With KL losing at Dudley, KL missed out on their last chance of a play off place so come on, get out and support the youngsters into the next stage of the competition. They might only be the Colts, but they will all be trying their hardest to uphold the winning traditions of Belle Vue. Start time is 8pm. Just hope the weather holds out and the track is able to be prepared to give some good racing.

Nl Cut Off Date- September 11th
Great Central replied to CrystalCastles's topic in National League Speedway
With the league table showing that Newport still have 7 fixtures to ride before the cut off date of 11th September, and only three arranged so far (Mildenhall away tomorrow, Belle Vue away on Wednesday, and Belle Vue at home next Sunday), it looks impossible for them to fufill their fixtures so what will the outcome be for those teams that haven't met them yet, or for the teams that have and have gained points against them. Extend the cut off point?? Run two double headers on Friday and Saturday?? Expunge all of the points as if they have withdrawn from the league or what? -
Scunthorpe V Belle Vue Friday 2 Sept.
Great Central replied to dukes's topic in National League Speedway
Very good post. I thought the crowd was good, it was warm!!, the track produced some excellent racing and despite the weakened sides through PL duties and injuries, it was a good meeting. Although it looked like Jack Hargreaves had shed a chain in Ht 5, it was in fact a blown engine ie with the con rod going through the crankcase so for his remaining rides, he was on borrowed bikes. Well done to Jack for sticking at the task in hand and for willing to give it a go on the various bikes on offer. For the Colts, Karl Mason was suffering with his engine failing to get the necessary speed around a very fast Scunthorpe track but Adam McKinna was riding near to his best, pushing the opposition hard in every race. Hope the collection for John Oliver raised a bob or two. -

I know it's becoming a bit of a cliche but........remember you are having this debate because both sides actually have a track to argue over. -
Belle Vue Colts V Hackney Hawks
Great Central replied to Great Central's topic in National League Speedway
Ben Hopwood is out for the season I think due to a crash in the 2nd half at Sheffield last Thursday when he suffered a broken upper arm. That was the news from his Dad on Sunday evening. I haven't heard anything about how Hackney will cover his absence, but I expect it will be R/R. -
Well done to Buxton on their well deserved win - it has been a long time coming but sounds as if it was well deserved. Let's hope that the next news we hear about Jon Armstrong is good news.
-
Tonight Aug 31st In an effort to reach the NL play offs. The Colts take on Hackney at home at KL, who are also contenders and taking all 3 points and sending Hackney home empty handed would certainly boost their chances...... Best of luck to the boys and stay safe.....
-
And you missed it!!! I bet Porkie was a bit quiet on the centre green.

I think it will be closer than 38-52. We will be leaving soon to avoid the queues to get in!!! Keep the sun shining and let's have a bit of dirt on the track. Sounded a bit processional last week so if it is your last NL meeting of the season, let's hope it is a good one for all the spectators that have been encouraged by Mimmo's call to arms.
-
A match like last week where the result could go either way, if the weather holds out. Doesn't look too promising right now but the forecast could change overnight.
-
I must be reading your table incorrectly then, since aren't you predicting the final points tally in each team at the end of the fixtures and therefore the final position of the teams?
-
Friendly rivalry with both of you providing a different way of predicting the final outcome with both having Stoke as top team. Keep up the good work since it makes interesting reading.
