I wouldnt say the track was in "great" condition, but it was rideable. The biggest problem, and most likely unavoidable, was that the outside line which many of our home riders love to ride on, was too heavy and thick due to the weather. The likes of Tate were trying it out but were coming unstuck in wet mucky track. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I would agree that a call off would have been better. But at the start of racing it didnt look as if that would have been necessary !

As a separate issue, I and may other Comets fans saw something distinctly odd happening during track grading and watering at Redcar. The tractor and the grader were often travelling in opposite directions during preparation. ie they were travelling TOWARDS each other ! I was told that this is against BSPA rules. As it appears some time ago an accident occurred at another track where the tractors collided with each other, causing injury. Since then, I AM TOLD a rule was introduced to stop this, and both vehicles had to travel the same way at all times. Is anyone up to speed on detailed rules regarding track prep and can they confirm an offence has taken place, or is this method still allowed ? Incidentally, Steve Lawson remarked that he too thought it was odd, and he has rarely seen tractors travelling in conflicting directions ! I have no idea if what I was told, IS correct, but maybe someone out here can confirm or deny it ?

Easily explained.....there was a two for one offer on carrots in the Workington Store. And as he loves carrots, he thought..."why not" ?

But.....you insisted that YOUR informant was telling you the truth that the team was completed by Xmas. And I merely stated that I thought MINE was telling the truth that it wasnt yet completed. But you wouldnt have it...you insisted that I was wrong, and you were right ! Right from the outset of that discussion, you could have easily said "well we have both been told conflicting information, so lets wait and see who is right ?". And of course, we now know who was right !! Well, at least that person was right, at the time of the interview, which was 11am on Friday. Things may have changed since the interview on Friday ? I want to draw a line under this discussion. The facts seem to be, that you were told the team IS sorted and has been since before Xmas. But only the other day, I was told that the final rider has NOT been signed, although options were under discussion between around 3 other riders. You arent gonna name your informant, and I am not gonna name mine. Its also possible that maybe a signing has given back word since signing, meaning they are now looking for a replacement for them ? Lets leave it it that. We will find out before March 16th !

So, lets for a minute pretend you THINK you know who the last signing is, rather than knowing for sure. So erm, why not say on here who you "THINK" that rider is ? Obviously you wouldnt be giving anything away, as its just your thoughts as to who it MIGHT be !

And funnily enough I know that its not up to me to "tell the workington promotion when and how to release information about signings" ???? !!!! I have never suggested that. Again, utter gobbledegook ! I was merely trying to inform those that said the Comets team has been sorted, that according to information received very recently, (and no I am not going to say from who), IT ISNT. I was simply told that the final rider has NOT yet been signed ! Why would my source then deliberately lie to me about it if the complete team HAS been signed ? I can assure you that Tony Jackson will definetly NOT be getting back into running a speedway team ! He told me so himself only a few days ago. He is now happy to take a back seat and enjoy speedway from a supporters point of view.
