Is everyone aware that the web site creams off 7.4% of all money donated? Now that the contributions have stalled at £170, out of which only about £160 will find its way out of the web sites coffers, what's going to happen next? Will a picture be published of the cheque presentation ceremony? When Adam Roynon blows an engine, is there going to be another appeal to the public to buy him a new one?

Social Media For Speedway Teams
uk_martin replied to uk_martin's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
One wonders how much Total Sport Radio paid to Terry Russell / SlowSpeed International Ltd for the broadcasting rights of the Swindon meetings, and how much other clubs will benefit from this deal beariing in mind the collective bargaining obligation that SlowSpeed International Ltd has on behalf of the BSPA. -

Maybe this is something that can be discussed in the Speedway Tavern? They may find a willing volunteer for you. -

Different stadium management, different policies. Speedway personnel can't do their thing whilst the dogs are running round in circles at Perry Barr...again nothing that the tenants can do about the landlords rules. -
I bet you thought that this was going to be about Neil Middleditch, or maybe Matt Ford? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32123192 I bet you wish it was about them now though, don't you?

Here's another wobbler to enter into the equation - which country's legal system do the FIM follow? We in Britain may be used to the British system (innocent til proven guilty and all that) but you may be surprised at how few other countries follow this principle. Even in "civilised" western European countries some adopt the guilty until proven innocent principle. (check out "Roman Law") So there's another shocker...the whole world doesn't have to conform to BSF subscribers' expectations...

The Heathens V The Brummies 25/03
uk_martin replied to greyhoundp's topic in National League Speedway
It's a democracy...vote them out! Get the supporters club members to picket the polling stations on election days, and put your case to the electors. Find out who's for and who's against and make it clear to the voters that if they want speedway, which candiates are in favour and who are against. -
Stoke Potters V Birmingham Brummies 29th March (ch)
uk_martin replied to guitar_art's topic in National League Speedway
Should have had Jon Armstrong in the Brummies team this year. It's always good to have at least one rider that's at an age that the Brummies supporters can relate to. -
Blimey, is this thread still going?

The Heathens V The Brummies 25/03
uk_martin replied to greyhoundp's topic in National League Speedway
It USED to be...I don't have that many hairs left to split any more, however, just to confirm that the name "Alexander Stadium" moved over to the new athletics stadium in Perry Park, home of the Birchfield Harriers and many an international athletics championships when it got built. The official title now of the greyhound / speedway facility is "Perry Barr Stadium" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_Barr_Stadium Just a shame that the little suburb of Perry Barr has two stadiums now, it had another one until it made way for the One Shop Stopping Centre, and it has Villa Park so close, with the Hawthorns and the Bescot Stadium short drives away, and yet the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley won't do a thing for sport of any kind. I do hope that changes and that Cradley can have a place they can call home before too long. -

First person to say Perry BARR in 3 days... For Porky's benefit, if he wants to go to Perry Wood, then Perrywood Road is in Great Barr, just around the corner from Marco's chippy on way to the M6...it'll lead him straight there, perhaps. -
Ahh, OK Presumably then when a British promotions company organises this, the BSPA / SCB will fully endorse it, as it's not going to favour those pesky Poles?
-
I thought it was an FIM meeting which means that it's organised at governing body level...which is the main stumbling block in this country.
-
Woffinden and Harris would get some big money for their appearances too, let alone big prize money for success...however the SCB / BSPA wouldn't benefit at all. So they haven't bothered with this (or any other OneSport promoted event) The politics of envy. Plain and simple.

Poland 2015 Season Extraleague News
uk_martin replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
Am I understanding the translation of this page right? http://www.ap.stalgorzow.pl/ Stal Gorzow are now running a football academy? If that's the case, what a fantastic way of engaging with the local community, and what a great way of connecting with the next generation of potential fans. OK so they teaching kids to play football, but what's the betting that on a Sunday afternoon a lot of these football players will be drawn to watching the speedway by virtue of the connection? Is there an inovation award anywhere, because I think we have a winner here. Best not tell any British speedway promoters about this though. All these ideas coming out of Poland just aren't British are they? Wait til the next episode of OAP's Behaving Badly for where the next batch of British speedway supporters will be coming from... -
I said something similar to that in Prague before the SWC there a couple of years ago...erm, I was wrong

Speedway Champions League ?
uk_martin replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in International World of Speedway
Pepe's also pretty handy around the Edward Jancarz arena, so will probably be Kings Lynn's top scorer. I'm looking forward to getting out to Gorzow, not only to see this meeting and to see Stal away at Grudziadz the following day, but for once to be able to get to the Stal shop at Nova Park whilst they have all the new seasons stock in. Fed up of turning up in the back end of a season and most of the goodies having sold out during the year. -
Anyone noticed that in two posts time, this thread will have clocked up 5,000 contributions of all shapes, sizes and qualities...

Speedway Champions League ?
uk_martin replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in International World of Speedway
My understanding is that the FIM realise that the event is in its infancy but that they want to develop it over time. And good on them for doing so. Some would even say that they are promoting the sport. Imagine that, a governing body actually doing something positive. They have also recognised the problem that you refer to and are taking steps to limit the number of clubs a rider can be contracted to in the future. So we now have teams from 4 countries on the same track together in the same place at the same time. Who'd have believed that a few years ago? OK, only on one track on one occasion, but with a bit of momentum, and with the willingness of the teams concerned, who knows? Maybe a 4-leg round-robin tournament can be arranged in the years to come. but without this first step, you don't get to take a second step. However I do suspect that the real reason for reluctance to accept the competition over here lies in that last sentence. In a competition where we have speedway's equivalents of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Juventus, it's good old Acrington Stanley representing Great Britain. Well so be it. Have a sulk if you want and see how that improves the situation. Again though, in the future, that may all be different again. Who knows? -

Love reading these "farce" posts...reminds me of those days as a small child when the kid across the street got a new toy, and those kids who weren't invited to play with it came out with the "it's a load of rubbish anyway" cries lol. -
Speedway Champions League ?

Of course if it was a competition that a British team had a good chance of winning it would be a fantastic competition wouldn't it? -
Speedway Champions League ?

Until they make an announcement to the contrary, they won't shake off the suspicion that it's an act of sulking in response to the way the FIM handled their beloved Darcy Ward. -
Speedway Champions League ?
uk_martin replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in International World of Speedway
May see you in Gorzow then I see you are doing the "Mickey Mouse" meeting on the Sunday then? We'll be with the Stal Gorzow fans in Grudziadz on the Sunday, for the Grudziadz v Stal Gorzow meeting and possibly to see the great Tomasz Gollob for the last time...who knows? -
Speedway Champions League ?
uk_martin replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in International World of Speedway
And as for "Mickey Mouse" comprtitions.- have you see the trophy that the FIM have produced for the winners of the World Speedway League meeting? Oh well, never mind eh? Back to serious British stuff, like the Travel Plus Tours Challenge Trophy, tomorrow, which this year the Birmingham Brummies and Cradley Heathens will fight it out for...despite the fact that in the three years that it's been fought for, no-one has seen what this trophy looks like yet, or even if it actually exits. Yep, we British can be experts at berating what the Poles do when we're so good at running these top tournaments at home can't we?
