  1. Could come down to which 3-man+R/R team is better than the other 3-man+R/R team. Here's hoping for some entertaining racing, less than the average number of falls, no more injuries and an amicable atmosphere on the terraces. As for who wins, well rather the Brummies than the Heathens, but does it really matter that much at this level? Here's a thought. Isn't there a case for R/R to be scrapped in the NL? If this league is all about developing young (???) talent, then wouldn't the greater good be benefited by drafting in a MDL rider, or some other junior?
  2. No. Poole simply get away with murder if it's on SkySports.
  3. Thank you Barbara Horley. I thought that referees had to at least be able to count to 10 without losing track half way to the end. How can Adam Kirkby be prevented from riding in heat 14 of the Eastbourne v Birmingham meeting for having riden in 7 races already when he'd only been out in 5? I despair.
  4. The Brummies "won" largely due to Kent running out of fit riders for the last race. OK, to win you have to cross the line, but it's a sad day when team sport comes down to being the last man standing. Much of that has to do with the number of falls and consequent injuries, which may be down to the abilities and /or state of the track. Whatever. I certainly don't feel the same degree of satisfaction about this "victory" as I do about the win that Birmingham had in the PL 4's at Peterborough in 2010, when we had a team that out-raced the opposition, and opposing teams that put up a battle for every point in every race, and not just battling to stay upright on their bikes, as was the case last week.
  5. This could be one of those times when Sings4Things will predict a Brummies defeat and will actually be right for a change.
  6. Great idea. Is there a professional photographer on hand or do the fans have to bring their own Box Brownies that they received as wedding presents?
  7. Stal Gorzow who I follow in Poland, they start the publicity for the next meeting the day after the last meeting....giving them 2 weeks to whip up their crowd. Seems to work, as with 11,500 being their average gate last year, they don't do too badly. It's not just this forum though is it? There's nothing on the official web site, or in social media til the day beforehand either. And there's certainly nothing to attract a "new" crowd in...just seems to be "open the doors and a bumper crowd will be expected".
  8. He'll be at your place on 8th July. You can have a second bite of the cherry 3 weeks later when Kings Lynn Young Stars visit Tom Perry Barr. Let's throw 5 other names into the ring - Magic Janowski, Szymon Wozniak, Patryk Dudek, MJJ (I hope his fan club isn't looking), Oliver Berntzon, Aleksandr Łoktajew,??? I'm not saying that these will be the top 5 prospects, as I agree that Bartosz Zmarzlik, the Pawlicki Bros and Pawel Przedpelski (how come you can spell Pawel Przedpelski so well but failed so miserably with Bartosz Zmarzlik??? lol ) will all be in the mix as well...time will tell. It's a funny old game Saint!
  9. Something to be discussed on your radio show - "why is all publicity / PR / promotion left to the last minute"?
  10. NO!!! Don't say that. PLEASE tip us for the wooden spoon...please!?! So how different were the weather circumstances between Coventry and Vojens? The resulting track quality at Vojens seems to have contributed to some fine racing...seems from reports from those there that the opposite was the case at Coventry. Is that a fair assessment?
  11. Joking aside, the number of crashes I've seen in the NL this year is doing my head in. Even on a well prepared track like Perry Barr, we get 8-10 fallers in a meeting on average. How are we supposed to attract new followers to the sport if the professionals entrusted to provide us with entertaining racing, keep falling off? I haven't counted the fallers on the Updates site scorecard, but from what I gather, there was a hell of a lot. IMO, if you want a demolition derby, go and watch banger racing, If you want 2 falls, 2 submissions or a knockout to decide a winner, go and watch the wrestling. This sorf of thing has nothing to do with what speedway should be all about. And what do Coventry think they are playing at again? I was last there for the FIM World u21 Qualifiers a few years ago. The track was pants then. Today, it seems it was no better. The NL is supposed to be where young riders are nurtured and developed for the sake of the future of the sport in this country. Coventry's track team seem to want to kill and mame them instead. Sorry, but I entered this season with an open mind about NL racing. I've not been encouraged by much other than the Brummies results so far...and there should be a lot more to it all than just the results.
  12. I read something about that on Facebook...he was stood in amongst the Coventry fans wasn't he? Well I wish him a speedy recovery. Never nice when that happens. From what I gather, it apparently started off as a faint and ended up as a head injury when his head hit the concrete terracing. I hope it's not a bad injury.
  13. Pleased to have learned about the result but also pleased to have been at the RAF Cosford Air Show instead for a whole day's worth of entertainment and no crashes.
  14. Yeah maybe. I'm told that Güstrow have contracts with One Sport that will keep them fully occupied (& financially committed) to rule out taking on another major event.
  15. Sad to read about the demise of this site. http://www.speedway365.com/archives/13278 I guess that leaves only the "official" BSPA web site and the unofficial BSPA publication (Speedway Star) as the sole sources of speedway news, and all according to the official party line...How sad. I feel sorry for the guys behind Speedway 365. It's bloomin hard work to keep a site like that running. Thanks for all your efforts folks and good luck in the future.
  16. I've heard that Teterow is to get a GP next year, in place of Tampere. Great news if true. I was impressed with the track when i went there a couple of weeks ago. Although it's a bit of an "in the woods" kind of location (it makes Malilla seem positively urban) the racing there is good and it's well worth the trip. Can't wait to give it a spin next year if the reports I'm getting are right. :-)
  17. The RAF Cosford Air Show featuring the last ever aerial display by a flying Vulcan Bomber, WW2 veteran aircraft such as the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a Mustang, a Kittyhawk, a Messerschmidt, not to mention modern planes such as a Mig29, a WW2 liveried Typhoon, an RAF Chinook, an F18 and an F16, together with an assortment of other planes, both flying and static, not to mention the Red Arrows and entry to the RAF Museum... OR The Download Festival at Castle Donnington, featuring Muse, Slipknot, Kiss, Judas Priest and oodles of other bands... OR The NL Fours...on that Coventry track. Midlanders who want to be prized away from their televisions and BBQ's have lots of attractive options open to them this Sunday, don't they?
  18. Abandoned due to track conditions according to the BSPA Web site. What was that all about?
  19. Pretty soon it'll be like the gladiatorial games in ancient Rome. If there's a faller the viewer will have the power to press the red/blue/green/yellow buttons on their handsets and decide on who gets excluded, as the referee has been effectively been relegated to a glorified scorekeeper with no effective powers over the conduct of the meeting.
  20. It takes episodes like this to highlight what a huge botch up the whole media arrangements that the BSPA have signed themselves up to are, who benefits from it (Ronnie Russell & Mrs Russell) and what goddam awful partners in crime (figure of speech - no actual crimes being alleged, yet...) GSI Ltd are.
  21. According to Companies House, Go Speed International Ltd has two shareholders (Mr & Mrs Guess Who?) with paid up share capital of £100. The company was started up after the liquidation of the previous company - Go Speed Ltd - that left debts of some £40,000.00 behind it.
  22. No mention about the role of the Referee. I always had the idea that the SCB's representative controls the meeting from a point starting 2 hours before tapes up to the point when they declare the meeting closed.
  23. Newsagents all over the country will be bracing themselves for the biggest rush since the post-shooting edition of Charlie Hebdo was published...and why? Because next week's Super Speedway Star will contain in depth investigative reporting of "Brandongate". It'll feature analysis, comment, interviews and opinions into what happened when SkySports played the role of South American dictators, came in and ran the show at Coventry. The topic that is causing more outrage amongst speedway fans than any other in recent times will be given exposure like no other, and a full investigation into what went wrong, and who was at fault will fill the pages like no story before it ever did. And then I woke up...
