Sadly time has proven that Terry Russell's only interest, duty and loyalty is to his own wallet. -
How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
uk_martin replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
How about this for an idea... Put on a competition between local schools/colleges for who can produce the best promotional video. Allow groups of students access to the pits, the centre green and anywhere else where they need to go. Schools / colleges can enter as many teams as their arts / media dept can support. Whilst filming, their classmates can also enjoy free admission to the tracks too. Teams can get top tips by having "field trips" to speedway video production studios (e.g. ReRun, Clean Cut etc etc) and maybe Tatum & Pearson can pull some strings and arrange visits to the local BBC / Sky production facilities. Winning videos can be shown on speedway web sites, and maybe also the local BBC and SkySports TV and web sites too. There'll be plenty there to get the educational value that the schools / colleges would want and plenty of opportunities for the students to get hooked on the sport. Most importantly also is that these students are in the age group that are a year or two from being full fare admission payers, which is what the promoters need to make the sport sustainable. A big plus compared to the usual "kids in pushchairs go free" schemes. Only snag I see with this plan is that Terry Russell (Slow Speed International Ltd) will play his copyright hand, won't he, as he owns the media rights of all audio and video shot at speedway tracks? Oh well, it was good while it lasted. -
Polish Ekstraliga Is Flexing Its Muscles

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't I recall that this was the intention of the FIM a year or two ago? Perhaps the Poles are the first to announce their compliance with some FIM directive that has been passed since the announcement of their intention? http://sportowefakty...-wybieraja-dwie Don't be surprised if other national bodies make similar announcements in the near future. -

Glad that Buxton have honoured their commitment to host the Brummies this season...I wonder if Belle Vue will do us the honours too? -

Investigative journalism by the SS? Are you serious? Once the SCB's press release has been copied and pasted in place... -

See the other thread...apart from the danger of all the fans staying at home to watch the enthralling Elite League meeting on TV, it seems that Birmingham's track staff double up with Wolverhampton and Wolves would have first call on them.

Can we think of any track staff who complain if riders double-up or triple-up between the leagues? -

Obviously highly impressed by the BSPA saying that British riders can't race in the SEC. Nothing new really. The Swedish authorities flexed their muscles in the 1970's resulting in Anders Michanek & co being prevented from racing in Britain for a time. -

Good job it's a local derby. Fixture jiggery pokery for long distance fans isn't much fun if hotel bookings, time off work etc all go to waste. -

Yeah, we couldn't believe it either. Chalk it down to karma to make up for the 5-1 that was lost thanks to Gomolski's "tactical tumble", maybe? -

Hello fom inside the Edward Jancarz Stadium. Tension & atmosphere are electric. C'mon Stal! -
This is the world of business for you. Those who do the work and take the financial plunge in promoting an event deserve the rewards that come from it. And on the flip side, if they make a right horlicks of it (Warsaw 2015, anyone?) then they are the ones to feel the financial losses and ignominy. If the (British by any chance?) tracks want to get the benefit, let them stump up the investment...oh wait a minute, they do don't they? It's called the ELRC, or even the "Elite Riders Championship" as it was re-named a year or two ago. And what a great job the combined expertise and experience of the British tracks did in making the ELRC such a worthwhile competitor to a BSI or OneSport promoted event. Or maybe they didn't.

You mean it isn't as good as it was in the days when GB had a team capable of winning and trophies came this side of the Channell?

Are we getting as bad as the football fans who keep harking on about 1966 and all that?

When a PL team needs an NL guest (remember how the Brummies once needed the likes of Ben Taylor some years back?) then basically Davey can't take the booking. I'd expect Jayne to know this, as a promoter, as these rules and regulations are part of her daily job. -
You might not have, but plenty of others did. Some people even today think of the SGP series as "Mickey Mouse" because they can't see beyond their own stadium car parks...opinions are varied, and as I said there were plenty who mocked the SEC in years gone by. Some have changed their minds since, others will still be of that opinion. That's people for you.

Why is that always made to sound like a dirty thing? Why not earn some money when you can? Speedway is supposed to be a business too, not a social service, isn't it? How is the sport supposed to survive without an income? And as for the fans, one final local derby to round the season off (for one set) and some winter bragging rights too. Or would you have preferred the long trek down to Pensioners Paradise, to ride around the Arlington 50p Piece?
