  1. I thought Gerry started in Speedway at Rayleigh Weir stadium. He had some great matches for Wimbledon where he was used as a second string to the Bob Andrews, Cyril Brine, Ron How & Ronnie Moore line-up. Gerry and Cyril Maidment made the team a really strong outfit
  2. Norbold, I didn't mention Norwich with Wal Morton pre-war as the Stars were listed in Moxey63's listing of his post-war tracks. Wal had enough teams without any "doubling-up".
  3. Wal Morton rode for Coventry and Wimbledon before the War He also rode for Belfast in Ireland but I don't think that would count
  4. I can find Charlie with Norwich, Plymouth & Leicester post-war but would be interested in any times he rode for Rayleigh
  5. I have just looked at the Researcher site Bert rode second half at the early 1946 meetings, was reserve on 24 April at New Cross, in the team 27 April at Belle Vue and rode through the May matches before being omitted and back to some second halfs then his name vanishes from the results listings He is listed as Bert but that may be because the historian knew the name he was usually known as. I think his full christian name was Albert as you say Some interesting names in second half and reserve spots with the 1946 teams ..... Charlie Challis in a Juniors Scratch Race for example
  6. I remember Ian as quite a good rider with Swindon. He gave good support to the likes of Bob Roger and George White. Also around then were Neil Street, Teo Teodorowicz and then Mike Broadbanks as well I have recently seen somewhere that Bert Roger first rode for West Ham before he rode for New Cross, which I haven't managed to trace yet. Maybe Norbold knows about that
  7. Yes it is the same Arthur, he rode for most of the time for Odsal but did have odd spells elsewhere. Arthur also rode in Aussie with Rune Sormander and the five man European Touring team one winter.
  8. To add to the above In that 1956 Final Arthur beat Peter Craven in a run-off for 3rd place.
  9. Arthur rode for Halifax, Bradford, Belle Vue and Coventry as far as I know. I think his best World Final night co-incided with Ove's first victory and the "first" closure of Wembley as a League team. He always had highly polished leathers and also appeared at the first of the Golden Oldie meetings at Coventry way back. In one of his seasons he caused a rumpus by entering the World Championship, but not having a team slot in a League side at the time.
  10. The last I heard was that Sandor the Magnificent Magyar was back home in Hungary
  11. Belle Vue Colts became Rochdale Hornets I remember the Colts having an upside down triangle with B V C printed on it for the team colours As with the Colts, Kings Lynn ran a second team in the Second Division, until going to Boston which was opened by Cyril Crane. This was in the early years of British League, Division Two, in the late 60's
  12. As you say Ted was not a world champion but he was a 100% trier who put heart and soul into the sport. He will be remembered by many for that reason.
  13. If you recall that Parslow then you will remember the arguments over the use of team colours for England v Aussies Test Matches bearing the sponsors name. A lot was said about printing "Durex" on the colours or whether "L R C" would suffice.
  14. ? was that the White City "Rider Replacement" Rebels team then
  15. Hi Igor ..... Yes I know Mike Kemp. He is a Norwich Stars fanatic. That match at Norwich was simply fantastic. I was there that night. Even the Ove fans would not have minded if one of the U S S R riders had beat him that night but, of course, Ove got the 18 point maximum. (Just the normal for him). It seemed that the big news was made if anyone beat Ove as it didn't happen much at Norwich. As you no doubt know that was the last season at the "Fabulous Firs Stadium" before they ripped it down but at least we still have the memories
  16. It remains one of the unfortunate things that the U S S R would not allow any of their riders to join U K or Scandinavian Speedway teams in the 1960s. It is a fair bet that Igor Plechanov or Boris Samorodov could have made it to number one in the World if they were allowed such freedom as todays riders enjoy. Also Kadirov, Gordeev and the likes would have made a great difference everywhere.
  17. From a personal point of view ................... I think that if there was anyone who could "do a job" for the Museum then they would be able to contact the present "Committee" and offer their services for it. It would be impossible to "Elect" a Committee to run the museum from all the people who are interested in the place. It would mean an untold cost being made to organise such an exercise. George & Linda have moved on from this project as I understand and will take with them the grateful thanks of all in Speedway, past, present and future, for their efforts which brought the Museum to fruition. As years pass there will be changes made by other people, unknown to us at present, anyhow. The good thing is that the present Organisers are keeping everyone informed of what they are thinking, no back door moves are being instigated. As I said before I think the "World Championship Globe" colours would be appropriate for the team colours if a change is made at all. (I would prefer Ove to be the rider pictured if I had the choice, but can live with P C as I did not have have the choice anyhow)
  18. If need be change the team colour to the "Globe type" used for World Championships in the late 40s/early 50s
  19. Gerard Ellis was a second-half rider at Kings Lynn for a while. I thought he had been loaned out to Newcastle at some time, but maybe not. Quite why else he would have been at Eastbourne I wouldnt know. Unless on-spec for a second-half ride there. I think his family kept a fish and chip shop in Kings Lynn at the time
  20. Hopefully Igor may be able to do an update for us on all that Russian team
  21. Simmo wore "Kawasaki Green" leathers when with Kings Lynn for a time.
  22. I thought he trained with Chelsea. His big mate was David Webb.
  23. I remember a Jason Gage who ride for Kings Lynn. Don't know if this is who you mean ????
  24. It may have been Nick van Gorcom or was he another better known rider ????
  25. At a guess those results would have been League Matches from later in the season as Peters book only included League Matches. I think April 1961 would have been Britannia Cup Section matches
