Swc Round 2 Coventry 14th July

One wonders if the Brandon track will be ready in time for the SWC, given that stock cars last Saturday was run in torrential rain, it rained most of Monday, and has not stopped raining today, Colin Meredith must have a hurculean job on his hands getting it ready. I know from speaking to Colin earlier in the week that the stox had reduced part of the second bend down to the bricks and when I was at the stadium on Monday there was a lake on bend one that had a group of wood pigeons bathing in it ! I fear for Fridays EL match at Brandon already. -

Gp Qualification
ballinger replied to barrow boy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I would like to see each GP contain a line up that includes the top 10 from the previous GP, 1 wildcard, 1 FIM pick, plus 4 entrants from a Friday night qualifier staged at an alternative venue in the GP country. The FIM pick could be a man in form, a local favourite, or even a rider injured in a previous GP and now fit to return. The Friday night qualifier would include the bottom 5 from the previous GP, 3 wildcards, plus 8 entrants who had submitted an entry fee to compete. Under this method, a rider who was in form and fancied his chances could have an immediate go at competing with the worlds best. The following years GP would then begin with the top 15 from the previous years overall classification plus 1 wildcard. -

Under 21 Team World Championship

I guess this rules Chris Holder out of Johno's Testimonial -
Yes, we have an agreement to film at Gorican. I believe that T2TV are doing the Rye semi.
-
Makes sense for Chris Holder to be drawn at Rye, given that the Gorican semi is the same night as the SWC Final. For my money the Rye Semi is much tougher, however I'm sure Gorican will be just as competitive. Looking forward to watching both meetings

Polish Final This Thursday

Really good pictures Lawrence, any idea how many spectators at this meeting ? With the final being restaged Monday means Ippo will be at Peterborough without Hampel or Swidders. -

Slovenia (where To Stay)
ballinger replied to janey2's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Hi Sandie As you're flying into Zagreb you'll need Croatian money for the airport. They definately weren't interested in Euro when I was last there in 2006. There's an ATM at the far end of the airport building down by Departures. If you're staying at Terme Catez you'll need Slovenian (SIT), again there's plenty of ATMs on the complex. The only time you'll be able to spend Euro is at the track, as tickets and programmes will be sold in Euro but stuff like souvenirs, food & drink will be SIT Hope that helps Cheers Pete -

Terenzano - Sgp2009 Semifinal In July
ballinger replied to f-s-p's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Having visited Terenzano in 2003 we were involved in a serious car accident just a mile from the track when we were hit by a speeding Ferrari. It meant an ambulance ride to the local hospital so I'd definately recommend extra insurance when hiring a car. It cost me over 2000 Euro for the car excess plus all the medical bills for the family so definately worth the extra 20 Euro per day or whatever. Having been to Italy many times since its a great place to drive, you just have to have your wits about you on the Autostrada. Italy overall is a fantastic place, certainly our favourite place to visit in Europe. Hope this helps f-s-p -
Speedway World Cup 2008
ballinger replied to JanusMillard's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Sorry to disagree, but the track at Vojens for the 03 SWC Final was terrible. Full of holes, and rutting up on the inside. The best thing about Vojens is the dodgy weather, the only way of getting some water in the base to give half a chance of a reasonable race track. -

Final Gp, From Germany

Just got back, and I can only echo every one else's sentiments. Total and utter garbage. In fact it was worst than that ! What should have been a celebration of SGP reaching it's first century turned into the biggest load of rubbish ever mascurading as entertainment that I've ever witnessed. I have never been so bored at a Speedway meeting in all my life, it was the first time ever I've taken my 2 year old son to the toilet in a break between the races and not rushed to get back for the next race. Just took our time and wandered back to our seats without rushing. Also not happy at having been told that "Stehplatz" tickets at 30 Euros each were for first bend standing, which having 2 kids wasn't going to suit, so had to go for the only remaining Home Straight seats at 113 Euros each, only to get inside to find Stehplatz infact meant seats in which you are allowed to stand up in. My wife & I are now agreed that £200 for flights, £100 for a hotel, £100 car rental, and a shocking £300 for tickets, just wasn't acceptable value for money and that £700 of entertainment spend can be better enjoyed elsewhere. Weekend only salvaged by a great few hours spent with the kids at Movie Park Germany this afternoon. They had a great time, and our 2 year old went for free, not for 113 Euros !! Sorry BSI but the truth is that that was expensive dross of the highest order.
