  1. and if a statement came out saying they were still in discussions you'd still get people moan saying they already know that and why don't they give a proper statement!
  2. i thought the Coventry riders hadn't actually signed contracts yet, so I'm guessing it might not be the full 1 - 7 Coventry announced if they don't want Leicester as a home track?
  3. saw the rumours about Sandhu having something to do with Brandon Estates a long time ago, may turn out to be a family member, but with the business conveniently registered in the Chanel Islands so no visibility on the company, it just points to something that's been in planning for some time, a way to manipulate what happens and still look like they are smelling of roses. Horton is no saint, that's for sure, but I think in this case things are not of his doing and would have progressed normally for the start of season.
  4. we need to encourage the youngsters, they're all that will keep the sport going in the future
  5. with young children I much prefer the Sunday at Peterborough, plenty of space for them to run around and play with their friends, but they still love the speedway, without it being too late at night and them being tired after school
  6. I was in the pits and I had Nicki Pedersen next to me and he was fuming when the announcement was made on track, disgusted that the riders were getting the blame.
  7. pricing keeps so many away I think .. I keep offering to take people, but then give them the price and it doesn't happen. the sport needs to cut costs and the GTR engine etc is hopefully going to help, but that means nothing to the supporter, only the rider. costs need to be cut for the supporter too, the price of fuel stops so many travelling to away meetings, and people so much more now are just picking and choosing what home meetings to go to. all of that is lost revenue when someone says I'm not going it's only so and so there. all the hierarchy seem to be looking at is reducing the cost for the riders, there's nothing there for the supporters. by the time the riders have cheaper servicing etc there won't be any supporters left! doing special offers because England are playing football and it's on tv means absolutely nothing
  8. as mentioned previously, I honestly think Brandon Estates is something to do with Sandhu's family and they're playing a game so things can go ahead quicker for them
  9. being kept back waiting for Poole to move there
  10. I think it must have been around '85 or '86
  11. wonder if he knows what 'patronise' means too
  12. when Wimbledon moved to Eastbourne mid season that was it for me. and when Wimbledon FC moved to Milton Keynes, no more football for me. why would Coventry supporters be expected to go to Leicester?
  13. Kings Lynn have been doing that, we've had pre-season meetings against Zielona Gora and Wroclaw
  14. I went to one of the functions with JC, met with DH during the day to look over all the plans etc and then the get together in the evening (have the pictures somewhere), and from what I saw of the enthusiasm that was around it's a shame to see that so many who helped Leicester Speedway get back off the ground are no longer involved. All the clubs need people with enthusiasm, it keeps things going.
  15. I think the best game on the ZX Spectrum was Premier Promoter, wasted many hours on that
  16. so why are you so unable to accept anyone elses opinion, no matter how obvious?
  17. I hit the tractor gate at Exeter pretty hard, managed to damage it to the point the tractor was needed to help straighten it (and I broke my thigh too). The worst place BY FAR was Arena Essex with those rubber hoses and no fence, once the back wheel hit the concrete you were just a passenger
  18. having a drink in the bar after a meeting, local riders for local teams, bikes on the back of the car .. somewhat more down to earth and approachable riders
  19. Not just stones .... https://www.flickr.com/photos/the_womble/6820466524/in/album-72157629545751849/
  20. I felt the decline in British speedway started with Ronnie Russell/Rye House and their battle to bring in Peter Schroek and Jens Rasmussen therefore opening the 2nd division up to everyone. The influx of European riders after that pushed out a lot of the good, steady, supply of British riders from that league.
  21. 22nd December 2016 For Immediate Release Joint statement from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), the Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) and the Amateur Motor Cycle Association (AMCA) British motorsport could end due to EU ruling The outcome of a government consultation on a piece of EU insurance legislation could end motorsport in the UK. Yesterday, the Government issued a document for public consultation, which gives an option of implementing the European Court decision known as the ‘Vnuk judgment’. The ruling makes it compulsory for anyone using any form of motorised transport to have third party damage and injury insurance. This will affect all participants in all forms of motorsport. The insurance industry has made it clear to government that third party risks for motorsport activities are uninsurable, not least because of the sheer number of potential vehicle damage claims that would arise. Therefore, if implemented, the Vnuk judgment would wipe out all legal motor and motorcycle sport activity. In the UK, the motorsport industry employs over 50,000 people, generates a total of £11 billion of sales each year and is backed up by a world-leading high performance engineering industry. Motorcycle competition is a popular UK Sport and generates much needed income in rural areas, with over 1.9 million spectators watching around 58,000 riders attend an average of over 4000 off-road and track events each year. These range from junior motocross to the British Superbikes, which would all end without the required insurance under the ECJ ruling.* MCIA, ACU and AMCA call on the government to exempt motor and motorcycle sport from any changes to insurance law which arise from the ECJ judgment. While the UK remains in the EU, even a temporary implementation of the ruling, as suggested by the Department for Transport in its consultation document, would be fatally damaging to what is an important industry and net contributor to the UK economy. Speaking for the ACU, AMCA and MCIA, Steve Kenward, CEO of MCIA says: “At a stroke, this would wipe out a successful industry and all the jobs that go with it, as well as eliminating a popular leisure pursuit for 1.9 million people, along with the boost that this gives to both local and national economies. “If the Government implements the Vnuk judgment un-amended, British motorcycle sport would end in the UK. Given that we are coming out of the EU, we are astonished that the Government is even considering an option to implement Vnuk. We call on Ministers to end uncertainty and put a stop to Vnuk in the UK.” Background: The Vnuk judgment imposes compulsory third party injury and damage insurance to all vehicles of any kind when used on any type of land. As well as affecting all motorsport vehicles, it could affect electric bicycles, sit-on lawnmowers, golf buggies, mobility scooters and even uninsured vehicles parked on private property under the Statutory Off-Road Notification scheme. The ruling stems from a case involving a Slovenian farm worker, who was hurt falling from a ladder, which was hit by a reversing tractor.
