Wolves v Sheffield 7th June 2021
stevehone replied to Beowulf's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
to be fair, one of his riders just got hurt and they grab him for an interview before he's even spoken to the rider! -
I went to Brighton pride the last time it was on a couple of years ago, and was looking to go again this year if Warsaw GP got cancelled. As it is, both are cancelled now. had a good time at pride though, was a great atmosphere even though I’m not light on my toes like most that attended, but trying to include it in speedway I think will go down like a lead balloon

Warsaw GP 2022 Saturday May 14th
stevehone replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
i think with the pricing Warsaw will always get their 55000 required -
real good bloke, hope he makes a full recovery
-
anyone think this was a financial decision based on crowd levels and the possibility that things won't open as planned?
-
My point

Whoever the replacement is surely it’ll make sense to have someone that will be based in the UK?
-
wasn't there but looking at updates there seems to be "giving up" when at the back from riders .. something i hate within speedway is not racing for 4 laps if you are able, shortchanging supporters, and what happens if someone packs up at the end of a race? possible wasted points

Peterborough v Sheffield - Mon 24th May

and the giant 'track dryer' that seemed to go very quiet -
speedway riders are one of the more accessible in professional sports and with social media it's the sort of thing that riders should be making the most of, that's how sponsors get involved a lot of the time .. even big companies look at things like this, it's how to get noticed. i know when i was at Canterbury i would chat with supporters, get involved with things and have a laugh with them, i got some cool sponsors that way, supporters paying points money, and friends for life too

maybe he felt after being so many down at one stage, to get that close by the end was a good sign? -

i don't necessarilly go along with the standard 'dropping' as there's good and bad racing in all leagues, but i wonder if those riders on a certain average have held out for more money and therefore taken up the wage spots that were there previously with the 'stars' of the sport. or it could be that the clubs are taking a chance at opening and with so many people being furloughed or losing their jobs they want to try to get as much money in as possible to cover what possibly could be lost on the terraces -

advertising within speedway has been a problem for many years, they preach to the converted, speedway star etc, the only times i've seen proper advertising was when Jonathan Chapman had the trailer/bikes taken around the area including the high street, also attended various events around town, and also had the tie up with the study centre to try to encourage kids and their family. i know Jonathan wasn't everyone's cup of tea but he tried. the other advertising i've seen is more recent with plenty of adverts for the Isle of Wight around the island, including flyers at the main beaches. the lack of advertising is certainly not a new phenomenon, but with the number of people around the country that have never heard of the sport, or answer when you talk about it that they used to go and is it still running, it's very worrying. it seems that too much is relied on the hard core support, and seeing the age of that hard core support it's got to be worrying. even when i took pictures at speedway i would get them online for people to see, it's all got to be an advert for the sport, but in later years even that was restricted as clubs wanted to only put something out when they decide. to me that was a poor decision that denied those that couldn't make it to a meeting, or stopped people seeing something that might make them want to visit. -
in my view the only London stadium to offer some of the facilities supporters in this day and age require is West Ham's ground. plenty of restaurants etc a 5 minute walk away, but i don't know about accomodation. Wembley would be a no-go because nothing interferes with the FA. as a Cardiff alternative i can only see Belle Vue, but would struggle getting a good crowd because of a lack of local facilities. Bradford would be good, used to love the track, but once again only lends itself to people coming in and getting out (quickly) so would be a no-go for a lot of the Polish supporters that swell the Cardiff crowd quite considerably
