  1. I am currently putting all the photos from my riding onto cd, and have stacks from the 86 and 87 seasons.... to see a packed Kingsmead week in week out in the pictures and to see what it is now is just terrible.
  2. agree about the aspect of trying to show how fast the bikes really go. inside the track is by far the best angle to show that so how about a couple of cameras on the inside. a camera on the helmet/bike can also work well if done properly... maybe to show replays etc but not necessarily during a race. this would also give people that have never sat on a bike the views you get on a track i.e fence coming towards you at a great speed with no brakes on your bike, and how close other riders actually get to you
  3. just looked at the pictures... what a thoroughly depressing sight can't even get my bearings to see where the stand or the pits would have been
  4. I'm not as old as you think Montine... I was 6 weeks old in 1967 when I first went so grew up watching all the riders mentioned. To be honest Kevin, I don't really have any memories of Trevor Hedge riding...I only listed people I actually remember watching. Wimbledon have had so many great entertainers over the years it would be impossible to list them all. I grew up watching Ivan Mauger as he would always stay with us when in London, so I have lots of memories of him riding at Hackney and being jeered at Wimbledon. I always found it quite funny. Also have vivid memories of staying at his place in Cheshire a few times and sleeping in the same room as the gold bike. Another thing I laugh at now was at a party at his house after a BLRC at Hyde Road... Ivan hadn't done very well (think he was with Hull at the time) and I remember asking him what went wrong  He must have thought 'annoying little rubbish'. lol
  5. Strange selection for Wimbledon there Montine... don't know how long you've been going to Plough Lane, but there have been much better entertainers there. I was taken to Plough Lane first in '67 and have seen quality entertainers in the forms of Tommy Jansson, Barry Briggs, Ronnie Moore, Larry Ross, Ed Jancarz, Mike Ferreira, Roger Johns, Kai Niemi and lots more. To include Nathan and Deon in there is a bit bit strange.
  6. There's a dog track at Exeter.... and the bends are not really that tight
  7. Didn't Bruce Cribb break the track record on his ice bike at Coventry during the Golden Greats in 1988?? Anyone know what sort of time he did back then ? i suppose the nearest we get to it with conventional speedway is Ivan Mauger winning in Poland 1979, just 1 month before his 40th birthday. Can't even see TR being at the top of the tree in 7 or 8 years time.
  8. I blame the 'powers that be' for Penhall retiring when he did. If they hadn't started bringing in stricter testing for certain substances he may have carried on for a few more years allegedly
  9. think somebody has just pissed me off
  10. Kenny Carter for England.... he'd give the team a bloody good kick up the arse and get them working whatever the track conditions. England were beaten by the track in last years world cup and there is no way Kenny would have allowed that.
  11. never mentioned any good things previously.... but if you're talking about safety, the cut-out was a good thing. used to see the bikes do an extra half lap with no rider but the cut-outs soon stopped that
  12. are you saying the regs now are for 36mm carbs??
  13. Good call Nora.... £150 just for a Briggo deflector is ridiculous. Bad changes a few years ago was when they were trying to slow things down and kept changing the type of silencer and the carb sizes. When I first bought a bike I could use a 38mm carb, then the rule was changed to 36mm and then 34mm. Carbs are not cheap. Another thing was tyres. We had Pirelli tyres and a few had Dunlop. I used to buy my Dunlop from Bob Humphreys for a couple of quid after he had done a couple of rides on each side, then Briggo (who else?!) started getting the Carlisle tyres from America that were meant to be the muts nuts, but they were so expensive. I think someone in the Control Board must have got jealous as we then had the rule where everyone had to use Barum
  14. don't know why, but i seem to remember something about that... i've a feeling he even went on to ride at Mildenhall. suppose someone will correct me on this
  15. Ivan Mauger Kenny Carter Billy Sanders Michael Lee all superstars...
  16. Last comment there explains a lot....
  17. Michael Lee managed it but I don't think he had to set his bike up
  18. Just make sure you bring it along on saturday and i want it filled in with your best handwriting
  19. Anyone at Rye hear the announcement about not letting the kids dig in the sand???? it was me trying to get away from Shazzy. To be honest it was a 'fairly pleasant' evening on the first bend with Shazz. There wasn't too much blood and I was able to limp to my car afterwards. I feel I must admit about being wrong when I told you all Shazzy was fat. She's bloody enormous
  20. probably catch them down the pub allegedly
  21. don't think Barney has managed to navigate his way into the new forum yet...
  22. so how about it...if me n gibbo entered a pairs meeting in canterbury colours would anyone come and cheer us on???
  23. still got my coat from '87 shazz... trouble is the era Gibbo rode in they only had bearskins
  24. same here... should have made the pilgrimage anyway shouldn't we? my ears weren't burning Dick but I hope everything said was good don't fancy sponsoring 'someone' to ride in the STRA do you Steve Gibson & me will be joining and intend wearing our Canterbury race jackets whenever we ride. Steve rode for the Crusaders in 1975. They have a pairs meeting which we will enter together so hopeful of getting some Crusaders fans along to cheer us on
