Vintage Speedway World Champions Nostalgia Night
stevehone replied to jblanch69's topic in Years Gone By
How can I explain while I am tieing you up?? I need my hands to type!! Sorry I didn't reply sooner...I was at Peterborough last night. Nothing was going on...as you can see, Shazzy likes the bondage lark which is not my thang. I had a shower in my room, Shazz had a bath in hers...that's it. Sorry to disappoint the rumour-mongers on here but you'll have to try elsewhere. now if someone wants to pay me enough........ -
Ivan phoned my dad a couple of weeks ago, and he was saying how his mum is now 90 years old and he has bought her one of these scooter/buggy things... seems like she's terrorising all the locals on the pavement with her antics!!!! Hmmm.... that Mauger family....

Be careful who you invite Jim, Ole Olsen will come in, take over, and change the whole format of your evening Good luck anyway, lets hope it all goes without those last minute problems steve -

er... i think you'll find i started that thread as a pith take at what people were saying about Billy Hamill after one meeting.... chill -
My dad did a bit of a talk about Ivan at the Wembley Farewell meal the other year... and I'm sure he trod very carefully too!!

er.. it was rather rude and i went to see someone in the main stand.... just where Wally was sitting. I also went in for the Miss Canterbury Speedway competition in 86 or 87. I wore a wig, long skirt, and stuffed a load of padding up my top. I also had Doctor Martin boots on!! I have a photo to prove it too!! I came joint 2nd with Ian Cox (girl that won it went on to win Miss National League at Coventry) Nothing was said by Wally about that. maybe he fancied me?... who knows?
-
I remember Terry's Hawaiian shirts also... and his constant tan. He always brought his son along with him too. I thought Terry was ok... I didn't know the reasons behind him going but he certainly was a character. I used to wear some er... 'different' t-shirts at Canterbury. The supporters would ask me what I had on so I just thought 'lets get some people going'. Was all going ok until Wally Mawdsley threatened to sack me due to one of the hats I wore!! All I wanted to do was have a good time at speedway, whether it be riding or with the supporters.

as well as still owing me £15 for travel....

1. Ivan Mauger nuff said 2. Michael Lee wasted talent but awesome on his day 3. Tommy Jansson career cut short as he was becoming the star he would have been 4. Kenny Carter Englands number 1, says so on side o' van 5. Simon Wigg mr entertainment... another much missed 6. Jan O Pedersen superb ability on a bike 7. Erik Gundersen ditto not a fan of the Danes but these 2, but for injury would have outshone Nielsen completely
-
This print you got Addy... is it the 'Millenium Man' print limited to 500 by Blair McKinley??? If so, I got one in a frame on my wall. He signed one to me and the missus and brought it over a couple of years ago.
-
Haven't a clue how to put pictures up for viewing on here but am more than willing to email you some to put on. I'll get you some out straight away.
-
I am currently putting all the photos from my riding onto cd, and have stacks from the 86 and 87 seasons.... to see a packed Kingsmead week in week out in the pictures and to see what it is now is just terrible.

agree about the aspect of trying to show how fast the bikes really go. inside the track is by far the best angle to show that so how about a couple of cameras on the inside. a camera on the helmet/bike can also work well if done properly... maybe to show replays etc but not necessarily during a race. this would also give people that have never sat on a bike the views you get on a track i.e fence coming towards you at a great speed with no brakes on your bike, and how close other riders actually get to you
