  1. thats the 'gate' i was thinking of...
  2. this looks a kind of 'double-negative'.... so are you saying that the squad should have been the above mentioned and some youngsters?
  3. i reckon he looks into this forum too much... eh, middlo???
  4. so i was right then (as in highest placed rider) does that make me an anorak??
  5. Agree about the video footage there Fd, but my head sort of tells me the video footage will just be used as a trailer for the sport on Sky as you say...
  6. i'm not with Jan either... confused here too..... maybe we need to find a PitPony :?:
  7. didn't Highgate have a prison? maybe there's something the family aren't telling you?
  8. Which episode :?: think it is episode 1 as the Steve you must be talking about is sidecar121
  9. and you will be reminded at every opportunity
  10. unfortunately i didn't manage to get a picture of Ted Hubbard fast asleep during the speeches at the Veteran Riders meal in March....
  11. maybe, but then once they see the picture they won't come back
  12. chatting to a mate at Rye House last night I happened to mention this... the reply worried me somewhat in that the regulation states that any new tracks being built must be within a certain length, therefore all tracks must be stupid small trick tracks. can anyone confirm this? no more quality tracks to be opened like canterbury, old poole, exeter, swindon etc :-(
  13. speedway is a dangerous sport and everyone who does it knows the possible consequences. i don't think there is anyone here that would laugh at the expense of someone badly injured. remarks are made after the extent of the injuries are published.... i think Kevin saying Dryml will be out for 3 weeks with a couple of broken teeth and questioning that maybe points to speedway rider mentality of riding when you have broken bones in your back, or a broken arm, or broken leg.... just putting it into context you know the saying that people always wait for something bad to happen before sorting something out... maybe this will make Ole Olsen look at why solid board can't be placed on the straight in front of the air fence. this is GP...riders take more of a chance. it was only a matter of time
  14. there are plenty of arguments of course especially for the likes of Denmark (what about Jan O and Gundersen), USA (Ermolenko, Moran bros), Czecho (Jiri Stancl, Ales Dryml snr, Vaclav Verner) Australia (Phil Crump, Billy Sanders) Poland (the late Edward Jancarz, Zenon Plech) Russia (Gordeev brothers..even if one did cheat in a World Final) Sweden (Per Jonsson, Tommy J, Soren Sjosten)
  15. didn't see the GP as at Rye House... what happened...did Rickardsson not get his inside gate for the semi??
  16. i didn't make a note of all the scorers etc at my first meeting i'm afraid... was at Wimbledon in 1967 season... i was 6 weeks old mind you, looking at some of the riders involved in your first meeting, Shazzybird will be able to tell you about one or two of them won't you Shazz
  17. couple spring to mind from Canterbury... Alan Mogridge Paul Evitts don't know why but they struck me as being nutters if required they were both good blokes though think moggo is a top geezer
  18. think the answer is that whoever has the higher riding number goes through i.e if TR had a dead heat with Crump, it would go to TR as he is #1 sure someone will correct me... one of these anoraks you are talking about perhaps...
  19. so are we talking about British riders that were consistent and good team men or are we talking about riders with that 'x-factor' that could realise their potential??
  20. have you missed out on what riders actually do these days? how do you suppose the 'promoters' will get the top riders together for an individual meeting? too much money being made in sweden and poland to worry about an extra meeting in england. and then the longtrack commitments on top of that..... i think it's hard enough trying to get some riders to ride in a league match without throwing those extras in. i see your point though... i was brought up going to wimbledon and enjoyed all the big individuals they used to have...internationale, spring classic, laurels etc, but i just think with gp's taking up so much time, effort and money, the riders won't be interested. we are at the time where riders can pick and choose if they even want to ride in their national championships. i also remember the international league they had in the 70's... what was it... England, Sweden, Rest of the World... who else was in it?
  21. dropped my cigar outside Battersea Dogs Home once... tried re-lighting half a dozen or so before i found my one....
  22. he said, as he lit up a nice big fat Cuban cigar to celebrate...
  23. well i'm back from my hols Gem.... and your memories can stay intact. Autrey was one of best Americans i have seen ride, and was a good 'clean' rider if you know what i mean Happy 50th Scott Autrey p.s... how long did he hold the Exeter track record??
