  1. Good call Nora.... £150 just for a Briggo deflector is ridiculous. Bad changes a few years ago was when they were trying to slow things down and kept changing the type of silencer and the carb sizes. When I first bought a bike I could use a 38mm carb, then the rule was changed to 36mm and then 34mm. Carbs are not cheap. Another thing was tyres. We had Pirelli tyres and a few had Dunlop. I used to buy my Dunlop from Bob Humphreys for a couple of quid after he had done a couple of rides on each side, then Briggo (who else?!) started getting the Carlisle tyres from America that were meant to be the muts nuts, but they were so expensive. I think someone in the Control Board must have got jealous as we then had the rule where everyone had to use Barum
  2. don't know why, but i seem to remember something about that... i've a feeling he even went on to ride at Mildenhall. suppose someone will correct me on this
  3. Ivan Mauger Kenny Carter Billy Sanders Michael Lee all superstars...
  4. Last comment there explains a lot....
  5. Michael Lee managed it but I don't think he had to set his bike up
  6. Just make sure you bring it along on saturday and i want it filled in with your best handwriting
  7. Anyone at Rye hear the announcement about not letting the kids dig in the sand???? it was me trying to get away from Shazzy. To be honest it was a 'fairly pleasant' evening on the first bend with Shazz. There wasn't too much blood and I was able to limp to my car afterwards. I feel I must admit about being wrong when I told you all Shazzy was fat. She's bloody enormous
  8. probably catch them down the pub allegedly
  9. don't think Barney has managed to navigate his way into the new forum yet...
  10. so how about it...if me n gibbo entered a pairs meeting in canterbury colours would anyone come and cheer us on???
  11. still got my coat from '87 shazz... trouble is the era Gibbo rode in they only had bearskins
  12. same here... should have made the pilgrimage anyway shouldn't we? my ears weren't burning Dick but I hope everything said was good don't fancy sponsoring 'someone' to ride in the STRA do you Steve Gibson & me will be joining and intend wearing our Canterbury race jackets whenever we ride. Steve rode for the Crusaders in 1975. They have a pairs meeting which we will enter together so hopeful of getting some Crusaders fans along to cheer us on
  13. Good to see you back Dick... If the meeting had been on you would have seen lots more old faces
  14. it seems the 'powers that be' weren't even interested in a 75th anniversary meeting, let alone an evening of nostalgia. if things were left to 'the powers that be' there would probably be no speedway full stop
  15. The problem then is that you might then not get all the riders you want
  16. Fine, but does that mean you have to announce it to everyone?
  17. There were a few unsavoury comments about Kenny as well as some very positive ones... mostly positive thankfully. If he had been alive he would have been included in the World Champions Nostalgia Night on merit I am sure
  18. if it's gonna help put bums on seats... especially at £25 per ticket maybe i'll just have to check with you before posting on the forum
  19. Not quite, but when someone I know is asked to give up their room so Jerzy Szczakiel can have it sort of gives the game away don't you think
  20. Szczakiel I think is going to the VSRA meal the night before so I expect he will be at the nostalgia night with all the others
  21. I have 4 proper scrap books here which include all sorts of programs too. 2 of them are from 1946 and 2 from 1947. Would these be worth anything to an enthusiast? They both include cuttings from the speedway publications of the time plus a lot of original photos. Programs include things like, Wembley v Harringay 1947 etc, and also some Speedway News magazines from 1948. Later on I have Speedway Star & News mags from 1970 - 1974
  22. What year was that Shazz as I can remember either it happening or someone telling me about it? S'pose it was probably you telling me at end of season whilst threatening you with a handful of something
