  1. i have some '87 programs at home so will have a look at the fixtures to see what 3 meetings together would be the best option. i'll post just after 6pm this evening.
  2. if they are not posted by about 6pm, i will stick them on as i have the yearbook also. you're doing this to get an idea of what video's to order eh, Grachan???
  3. hmmm... i had a better average in the '86 season too
  4. Finishing order... Eastbourne Mildenhall Milton Keynes Stoke Peterborough Berwick Wimbledon Poole Middlesbrough Edinburgh Newcastle Arena Essex Canterbury Exeter Long Eaton Rye House KO Cup Final... Mildenhall 50 - 46 Eastbourne Eastbourne 54 - 41 Mildenhall
  5. don't know what you're talking about ML.... the only Monk I know is Harry Monk
  6. er.. it was rather rude and i went to see someone in the main stand.... just where Wally was sitting. I also went in for the Miss Canterbury Speedway competition in 86 or 87. I wore a wig, long skirt, and stuffed a load of padding up my top. I also had Doctor Martin boots on!! I have a photo to prove it too!! I came joint 2nd with Ian Cox (girl that won it went on to win Miss National League at Coventry) Nothing was said by Wally about that. maybe he fancied me?... who knows?
  7. I remember Terry's Hawaiian shirts also... and his constant tan. He always brought his son along with him too. I thought Terry was ok... I didn't know the reasons behind him going but he certainly was a character. I used to wear some er... 'different' t-shirts at Canterbury. The supporters would ask me what I had on so I just thought 'lets get some people going'. Was all going ok until Wally Mawdsley threatened to sack me due to one of the hats I wore!! All I wanted to do was have a good time at speedway, whether it be riding or with the supporters.
  8. as well as still owing me £15 for travel....
  9. 1. Ivan Mauger nuff said 2. Michael Lee wasted talent but awesome on his day 3. Tommy Jansson career cut short as he was becoming the star he would have been 4. Kenny Carter Englands number 1, says so on side o' van 5. Simon Wigg mr entertainment... another much missed 6. Jan O Pedersen superb ability on a bike 7. Erik Gundersen ditto not a fan of the Danes but these 2, but for injury would have outshone Nielsen completely
  10. This print you got Addy... is it the 'Millenium Man' print limited to 500 by Blair McKinley??? If so, I got one in a frame on my wall. He signed one to me and the missus and brought it over a couple of years ago.
  11. Haven't a clue how to put pictures up for viewing on here but am more than willing to email you some to put on. I'll get you some out straight away.
  12. I am currently putting all the photos from my riding onto cd, and have stacks from the 86 and 87 seasons.... to see a packed Kingsmead week in week out in the pictures and to see what it is now is just terrible.
  13. agree about the aspect of trying to show how fast the bikes really go. inside the track is by far the best angle to show that so how about a couple of cameras on the inside. a camera on the helmet/bike can also work well if done properly... maybe to show replays etc but not necessarily during a race. this would also give people that have never sat on a bike the views you get on a track i.e fence coming towards you at a great speed with no brakes on your bike, and how close other riders actually get to you
  14. just looked at the pictures... what a thoroughly depressing sight can't even get my bearings to see where the stand or the pits would have been
  15. I'm not as old as you think Montine... I was 6 weeks old in 1967 when I first went so grew up watching all the riders mentioned. To be honest Kevin, I don't really have any memories of Trevor Hedge riding...I only listed people I actually remember watching. Wimbledon have had so many great entertainers over the years it would be impossible to list them all. I grew up watching Ivan Mauger as he would always stay with us when in London, so I have lots of memories of him riding at Hackney and being jeered at Wimbledon. I always found it quite funny. Also have vivid memories of staying at his place in Cheshire a few times and sleeping in the same room as the gold bike. Another thing I laugh at now was at a party at his house after a BLRC at Hyde Road... Ivan hadn't done very well (think he was with Hull at the time) and I remember asking him what went wrong  He must have thought 'annoying little rubbish'. lol
  16. Strange selection for Wimbledon there Montine... don't know how long you've been going to Plough Lane, but there have been much better entertainers there. I was taken to Plough Lane first in '67 and have seen quality entertainers in the forms of Tommy Jansson, Barry Briggs, Ronnie Moore, Larry Ross, Ed Jancarz, Mike Ferreira, Roger Johns, Kai Niemi and lots more. To include Nathan and Deon in there is a bit bit strange.
  17. There's a dog track at Exeter.... and the bends are not really that tight
  18. Didn't Bruce Cribb break the track record on his ice bike at Coventry during the Golden Greats in 1988?? Anyone know what sort of time he did back then ? i suppose the nearest we get to it with conventional speedway is Ivan Mauger winning in Poland 1979, just 1 month before his 40th birthday. Can't even see TR being at the top of the tree in 7 or 8 years time.
  19. I blame the 'powers that be' for Penhall retiring when he did. If they hadn't started bringing in stricter testing for certain substances he may have carried on for a few more years allegedly
  20. think somebody has just pissed me off
  21. Kenny Carter for England.... he'd give the team a bloody good kick up the arse and get them working whatever the track conditions. England were beaten by the track in last years world cup and there is no way Kenny would have allowed that.
  22. never mentioned any good things previously.... but if you're talking about safety, the cut-out was a good thing. used to see the bikes do an extra half lap with no rider but the cut-outs soon stopped that
  23. are you saying the regs now are for 36mm carbs??
  24. Good call Nora.... £150 just for a Briggo deflector is ridiculous. Bad changes a few years ago was when they were trying to slow things down and kept changing the type of silencer and the carb sizes. When I first bought a bike I could use a 38mm carb, then the rule was changed to 36mm and then 34mm. Carbs are not cheap. Another thing was tyres. We had Pirelli tyres and a few had Dunlop. I used to buy my Dunlop from Bob Humphreys for a couple of quid after he had done a couple of rides on each side, then Briggo (who else?!) started getting the Carlisle tyres from America that were meant to be the muts nuts, but they were so expensive. I think someone in the Control Board must have got jealous as we then had the rule where everyone had to use Barum
  25. don't know why, but i seem to remember something about that... i've a feeling he even went on to ride at Mildenhall. suppose someone will correct me on this
