  1. Oh dear...Mr Rickardsson has gate 3 and doesn't win....on his home track. Hmmmm.... who was it that said gate positions count for nothing when he is around?
  2. Ivan is over in August Jim with his Long Track GP November 1st, why don't you have a word?
  3. Rudy Muts broke his neck riding, so I think that's what ended his career. Steve Gibson (SVG2 on the forum) was a good mate of Rudy so could possibly give you more info.... when he gets back from golfing in La Manga
  4. couldn't agree more Shazz.... 2 of the forum greats were born in that very year
  5. the final sentence of the last posting by Salty just about sums up the sport these days
  6. had a great quote somewhere.... oh yeah... "hic" allegedly
  7. don't do it Marty... i seen her... she's had enough, and all the pies
  8. just got round to reading this post again... what you say about the shape of the track is dead right... it's not all about dirt on the surface, it's about having banking and a means of passing, but you have to agree they both have to be there for good racing.. also what you say about Benfield taking the circus to big cities and trying to encourage media interest.. fully agree with it..Cardiff has to be better for watching than Kings Lynn for example. but then Lynn has better racing! If you are blinkered into thinking nice big venues is going to attract sponsorship etc you are not quite right.. what is going to attract sponsorship is exposure to an audience. if the racing is crap (which it tends to be on these 1 day tracks), the audience will dwindle along with money and interest. we could all go on for ages and argue for ages i am sure, but to me the fact remains Benfield is both killing the sport as well as building it. my worry is that they are building it for the short term (their profit), and will suffer in the future due to a lack of competitive racing and the future supporters thinking 'first out of the gate will win'... won't go and watch that
  9. come on Shazz, don't be shy.... you were selling programmes that night weren't you??
  10. just doesn't hold water...
  11. will be very interesting come the end of the GP.... think of a possible scenario... Loram beats Jonsson by 4 points to grab the 10th qualifying place for next year. What will they do? yes i know they will probably give a wild card but that's not the point
  12. passed what?? the football? the shop? i think you mean he's past it
  13. not going to Wimbledon, but will you be at Iwade for the meetings in June?
  14. nice one Norbold..you beat me to it!! I have in the scrapbook the preview to the meeting... feast your eyes on this... 'WEST HAM CAN BEAT SPEEDWAY GIANTS' A crowd of 60,000 is expected at West Ham tonight when the home riders meet Wembley in the opening stages of their Evening News London Cup tie (7.45pm). Though West Ham are at the foot of the league table, they are the only London team to have defeated Wembley this season and are capable of gaining a good lead this evening. It goes on to mention how things rested on the second strings Bob Harrison, Cyril Anderson and 'Buck' Whitby can rise to the occasion and back up the efforts of Eric Chitty, Malcolm Craven and Colin Watson. Oh and for Cheetahawk, at the bottom of the article it says... Tonights racing will be broadcast on the Light Programme from 8.45pm to 9.30pm Somehow Norbold, I think you would enjoy going through these 1946 and 1947 scrap books... we shall have to meet at speedway somewhere so you can see them.
  15. i have a couple of 1946 scrap books so will see if the result is in there as they mostly focus on London tracks
  16. hmmm...waste of space that one....
  17. not just a 'woman' thing, it was more of a 'people with dirty minds' thing. terribly disgusting, but what you come to expect from Shazzy i suppose
  18. agree with you there LT, but you'll find Shazzy is more 'squat' than 'squaw'
  19. hey, good game.... I'll go next shall I? Mike Spink? next?
  20. and bloody good luck to them too!!! as a few have said, if it's in your blood and you enjoy it, who cares about age. my grandparents are 87 & 85 and my grandad wasn't very well last week. i was rather concerned as he is 87 and he just put it down to 2 bottles of red wine and too much sex!!! immediate thoughts are 'they shouldn't be doing that at their age', but why not?? they enjoy it. speedway is the same
  21. Thought Ivan Mauger coming back to Exeter for home meetings was a little wrong... although you can't fault the guy he still got an 8 or 9 point average.
  22. Egon Muller's handlebars weren't raised at all it was just the difference in shape.... he basically used the same bars he used on Longtrack
