  1. my preference is that speedway wouldn't be in the rubbish it is in now when it comes to 'big' meetings being run in the UK. my preference is that we would still have Hyde Road Belle Vue where we had fantastic BLRC's with thousands attending and a line-up better than the world final. my preference is that Coventry still had the British Final and the meeting actually meant something to the competitors. my preference is that the Div 2 riders final was still at Wimbledon and being supported by thousands. i could go on more with what i have as a preference, unfortunately people have to work with what we have ... either support that, or we won't even get the chance to go to any 'big' meeting in the UK in the future, whether it be weekend or during the week.
  2. and as already quoted (and i asked JC this question myself the other day), the only way to try and guarantee getting the top riders there is to not have the meeting at a weekend. if it's at a weekend, you will see a very half hearted effort by some riders at being available, and then what misses out? answer, the sport. if it's on a thursday, there are less excuses the riders can use. ok fair enough, but what track will you get that will be able to satisfy the needs for supporters from EVERY EL club?
  3. hmmm ... don't know for sure, might sit down next time i see you
  4. Norbold ... would this be a good place to go to try and sell my 1946 & 1947 scrap books that you saw a couple of years ago? or would you suggest ebay?
  5. like to see what's going on with a some riders from the 80s ... Mike Ferreira, Mike Spink, Larry Ross, Kai Niemi, Roger Johns, John Titman, Ari Koponen, Paul Evitts, Kevin Jolly
  6. great pictures there!! another of Tommy in an unusual pose is on Shooting Star's webshots HERE
  7. Ferreira 7.64 Piddock 5.65 Shilleto 6.58 all in 1978 for Canterbury
  8. Jim ... Erik is certainly up there as a true great, fantastic rider and one that i class as having that 'x-factor' ... a rider that could look good but produce on the day when needed, that's why he was able to outsmart Nielsen for so long. I'll pm you with Ivan's email later. He's flying up to Edinburgh for the Scottish dinner with my parents end of February, and he has a few plans in between but what date are you looking at for a get together?
  9. i see that, but i thought they were going to recognise 1969 i got my print off Jim this week anyway
  10. was that the one with Andrews?

  12. Ivan won 2 pairs titles though, not 1
  13. if a 2nd option counts i'll go .. ERIK = 17 (7 WTC, 5 PAIRS, 2 LTRACK, 3 IND) IVAN = 15 (3 LT, 6 IND, 2 PAIR, 4 WTC) RONNIE = 3 (2 IND, 1 PAIR) OVE 11 (5 IND, 6 WTC) 46
  14. well Ivan has 15 FIM gold medals, i dont know Ove's history and how many pairs and WTC he has my answer was based on speedway and longtrack only
  15. if its speedway and longtrack only ... Ivan 6 + 3 Ronnie 2 Ove 5 Erik 3 + 2 possibly
  16. 21 if its speedway and longtrack??
  17. quite annoying actually ... looking for a place called Scheessel and all we could find was Ausgang my dad was doing the map reading but couldn't find that place
  18. i think thats totally out of order having a birthday the same day as the longtrack ... my 40th is on the same day as Cardiff 2007 too so these speedway fixture compilers have a lot to answer for. flew to Hamburg and hired a car last time i went ... as i was driving down the motorway i kept seeing a sign for a town ... went on for bloody miles, must be a really big town. place was called Ausgang
  19. Scheessel ... what a fantastic 1000m track that is Iris, do you know if the club still runs, would love to go see some longtrack there again, but i heard they were having problems
  20. that'll teach you going into Wetherspoons twice in one day ... stay away from the sprouts next time
