Phil Pratt put his engine out i think in the late 80s, the PPT if i remember right. i know Dave Mullett used it, can't think who else.

Virgin on the red button worked for me .. and Greg Hancock @ 8/1 on SkyBet also worked for me

and that was only because of the unfortunate injury to Gundersen and the deflated attitude of Nielsen
