Thats funny when we have just come accross that old film of him.. I remember him as a real hard and tough racer, second was never good enough and you knew whatever race jacket he was putting on he would give 100%. At Custom House he was a real crowd pleaser, the same really at Wembley, bit od a norwegian version of Eric Boocock as far as agression went, dont know how many times I got his autograph as a kid, I guess thats why the fans liked him as he had time for them too.

QUOTE (Robbie B @ Feb 28 2009, 05:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thursday 1 May 1980 Wimbledon, the very first test match between England and the USA, it ended up 54-54, brilliant racing all the way through the meeting. England 54 Chris Morton 12, John Louis 11, Peter Collins 11, Michael Lee 9, John Davis 7, Malcolm Simmons 4, Kenny Carter (res) 0, Les Collins (res) 0 USA 54 Scott Autrey 15, Bruce Penhall13, Bobby chwartz 8, Ronnie Preston 8, Dennis Sigalos 7, Steve Gresham 3, John Cook (res) & Larry Kosta (res) did not ride A fair result, as much as I wanted England to win, speedway was the winner that day. I was at the meeting on the 3rd & 4th bends in the wooden boxes on the stairs, with my Union Jack (couldn't get a Cross of St.George anywhere) Test series sponsored by 'Durex'. Shame ITV don't repeat the meeting. I don't think it was covered by ITV, however it ws covered by a film company and used at the cinemas as a documentary (next to Satollones First Blood), I was i the film and I have a copy from the producers that they sent me as a thank you. I also have some cine film from the meeting, it was a fantastic match and I really remember some of the team riding being exceptional.

The best one was at Ellesmere Port, right opposite the stadium, it was all done out in the speedway colours too.
-
Not a name that springs to mind regarding Eastbourne (who didnt race from 1949-53) and only had a couple of meets in 1948 and one in 53? hoever it was a training track.

Slimmick, your not really Parsoles1829 are you???? I put this before reading Bryns and others replies, but they are spot on, wish the HIghwaymen would come back (What an Idela name for the new Sittingbourne team, Kent Highwaymen, it even sounds good.!

** Cardiff Gp Music / Presentation **
KenB1 replied to SpeedwayTShirts's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Ok every one has different taste, to be honest it was tacky to put it mildly. Speedway is trying to be professional, but there was nothing professional about the blaring music and corny jingles. That of course is only my (well actually not just mine, many others too) opinion. Whether the mentioned song was aimed at the referee or Nicki Pedersen, it was well out of order and I hope the person in charge of the music is made aware of this. I went to see speedway, hear the bikes, get the smell and enjoy the racing, if I wanted to go to a disco, I would have gone to town. If you want sponsors to put their money in our sport then this must not be allowed to happen again. -
Nicki puts bums on seats - shame those same bums boo him, he is class and definitely Eastbourne's loss, I would rather watch him race than those who just go round and round and do nothing year in year out, but I admire them too, as like probably 90% of people on here I can't even ride a speedway bike, let alone race one on what can only be decribed as a "rough" track at cardiff.

Super mag, really worth reading.

they are just a background that hopefully will soon be no more.

speedway museum! just a few I took whilst visiting, must admit it's better than it was, old Terry stone and his crew were working hard getting it up to shape.
-
he did indeed and he was a great friend of mine, lost his place at Arlington because eric Dugard became old enough to ride and that was it! Trapper was a class rider and I remmeber him returning with Oxford and knocking the eagles out of the cup in 1976?
