Junior Challenge Meeting
PhilK replied to NeilWatson's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Thanks for saving me the effort of responding Derek. 30 stand alone tracks (incl Boston) x 3 equates to 90 meetings a year which to mind is too many However there should be nothing to stop each Elite and Premier track running ONE , which would give us 25 meetings of this type a season. Add to that some proper second half events, that actually get run, rather than being abandoned because the 'main' event has been protracted, and we'd be heading in the right direction. Personally I am amazed why the U15 championship is only 4 or 5 rounds! -

Junior Challenge Meeting
PhilK replied to NeilWatson's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
What a fantastic nights Speedway in front of a decent crowd (looked over 200). Everyone of the 13 riders present were a credit to themselves as they provided some excellent racing, from Heat 1 when Marc Owen executed the first of three quality passes, through to heat 15 when Oliver Rayson unfortunately suffered an engine failure on the final lap when leading the unbeaten Richard Franklin and Marc Owen again made a super pass to get up into second on the line. For me the two highlights of the evening were Ashley Morris excellent effort to get second in Heat 8 after starting off 15 metres for a tapes touching ofence, which was only surpassed in Heat 14 when James Sargeant on a TS ride came from 4th to last in a race where Jake Knight showed maturity beyond his years to keep looking for his partner and when he saw him come through into second place intellegently going out wide to let Sargeant through. Knight had earlier shown excellent bike skills to avoid the fallen Sargeant and remain on and in control of his machine. Hopefully other clubs will take note and look to run similar meetings next season. Although Mike Bennetts assertion that all Elite , Premier and Conference clubs should run three of these meetings a year was a little over the top, surely all Elite and Premier clubs could run one full 15 heat Junior Meeting without much trouble. The meeting moved along at a good pace, and was over by 9.25pm, even with a 15 minute interval, plenty of league meetings I've attended this season have taken much longer to run!! I couldn't stay on for the second half but if anyone has the details could they post them on here please. Good to catch up with Parsloes and Mimmo as well -

Thought I'd bring this back to the top. Weather looks set fair, and there's only bl**dy Champions League tosh on the box. Hopefully the crowd will be better than Monday night, to see 14 of the countries most promising youngsters in a full 15 heat match -

Junior Challenge Meeting
PhilK replied to NeilWatson's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Really looking forward to this meeting, hopefully the weather will be kind. Well done to Kings Lynn for putting this meeting on and giving the youngsters a chance to ride in a proper 15 heat meeting rather than the often rushed few laps after the main meeting at certain tracks. The chance to see 14 promising young British riders of the future will hopefully bring a decent crowd to the Norfolk Arena! Hopefully with this and the recent 3TT Junior meeting at Ipswich we are seeing clubs at last give our youngsters decent track time and hopefully more of these type of meetings will take place in 2009. I feel they are better than the 6 heat Academy meetings which often get hit by curfews etc and when they are run its often in front of emptying stadiums. Maybe the Chapmans would consider running a similar style meeting at Mildenhall once our season completes on 28th September -

Hope to get to a couple of these, Wolves and Swindon. Is there anymore information on potential line-ups /squads? Would be good to see an Academy style Young England v Young Australia second half at these tracks. Aussies could track the Sedgmans, Sweetman and Ward for example! -

Real shame indeed. Would have come down for this meeting, having enjoyed previous Young Guns at Poole -
Certainly agree Paulco, is it any coincidence that the best Speedway racing I've seen this season has been at Somerset, Redcar and Scunthorpe? All fairly recent new tracks.

One minute its excellent racing Ashie, then ........ make your mind up You must concede that this was one poor excuse for a speedway track! You should have been at Somerset last night, great racing on a PROPER speedway track -
The referee is a disgrace The track is a disgrace If this is the best Speedway can offer no wonder the sport is in a mess! The GP series is at a watershed, time for Speedway on speedway tracks!! Great to see Nicholls and Bomber going well, but its really a lottery. ***Post split from referee topic by mod to start new topic***

Pretty fair assessment Rob. I didn't though have a problem with the speed of the heats, although I can understand your point of view. Personally I think this is one way we might get more new people coming to watch Speedway. 20 heats in 90 minutes was pure entertainment. Often though 15 heat meetings can take over 2 hours which in my opinion is far too long to be watching a match, Mildenhall by the way are sometimes a culprit so i'm not pointing the finger just at other teams.
