Other names from the past like Fred Mills, Paul Clipstone. John Gibbons, Carl Baldwin will be in attendance mixing with more recent names such as Ritchie Hawkins, Shaun Tacey, Cameron Heeps and Stefan Nielsen. Club promoter Kevin Jolly was relieved that the clubs big day was nearly here - he said - “Obviously I was disappointed that after all the hard work put in by everyone, the weather beat us back in March, but having said that I feel it may have been a blessing as with summer upon us now hopefully it will be a cracking day weather wise with plenty of fun and excitement both on and off the track. I know some people will be a little disappointed that we don’t have the three Premier League riders now but with injuries and so many commitments elsewhere now the season is in full swing I fully understand their position and to be honest I do feel the line-up now is more competitive overall than originally and I certainly wouldn’t like to pick a winner. I am working hard on confirming all the guests and there will be further announcements on our website, in the local press and on our social media sites over the coming days. I am aiming for 50+ guests with Mildenhall or strong Suffolk Speedway links and with the likes of Colin Cook, Richard Hellsen, Michael Lee, Chris and John Louis, Dave Jessup, Tony Davey, and many more hoping to be in attendance hopefully plenty of supporters from Ipswich and Kings Lynn will come across to Mildenhall to help us celebrate our big day. There is no increase in entry price and I want everyone to have a day to remember! We have changed the Bernie Klatt Memorial Trophy to feature some of the up and coming crop as I felt it better showcased all that Bernie was about, he always loved seeing young riders take up the sport and was always there to encourage them and this is I feel the perfect way to remember Bernie! I am very grateful to Greg and Derek Palmer for firstly offering to be main sponsors of our 40th Anniversary meeting and secondly to Greg for his fine efforts introducing other new and returning sponsors to the club, Bussens & Parkin Limited, Thurlow Nunn Standen Ltd, G.B Marketing-UK Ltd, Ivan Smith, J&P Haylock Farms, The House & Property Company, HOFICE, Century Services (UK) Ltd, Freedom Recycling Ltd, Gascoynes Chartered Accountants, C&H Flooring Limited, Openfield, A B Electricals and Trendsetters Barbers & Hairdressers. Found ourselves at Peterborough last night after our planned trip to Coventry to see the Fen Tigers was rained off. I think in all honesty we may have been lucky as this was a fantastic meeting especially for the neutral. If Fisher had performed and Hall not withdrawn iit could have been very close indeed The racing was excellent all evening, Palm Toft's races especially eagerly awaited. Someone commented that Lambert no giving Hall room was the cause of his fall, really dont see that! From where we were on the 1st bend it was just hard racing, Hall had plenty of room to get round Lambert, just a shame he crashed as it was an cracking race Ollie Greenwood could do with finding a NL club in my opinion to give him more racing and restore his confidence. He is a better rider than he looked last night. If Peterborough are considering a change James Shanes could be a good call, the Peterborough track looking just right for his all action style. Looking forward to visiting the EOES again very soon! -
Great meeting, some brilliant racing with both teams emerging with alot of credit A pleasure to see plenty of Eastbourne fans in the crowd, fairminded, enjoying themselves and backing their team, how it should be. A draw would probably have been a fair result, but after a strong talking to at the interval we emerged more focused and managed to gain an all important three points Really impressed with Georgie Wood who looks an excellent prospect and of course Wilson-Dean lived up to what we have been hearing, a couple of great races with Danny Halsey! Hope that Richard Andrews is ok. Look forward to seeing plenty of you return when we meet in the Trophy on the Sunday after the British GP, their should be an added attraction that afternoon well worth seeing!

Rye House Raiders V Mildenhall Saturday 7pm
PhilK replied to Paul's topic in National League Speedway
Press Release from Mildenhall Speedway - Rye House Raiders 51 Mildenhall Fen Tigers 40 - Fen Tigers open season with away defeat A somewhat rusty looking Fen Tigers septet took came away from their opening meeting at Rye House with nothing to show from a performance that had flashes of promise mixed with some bad luck plus an unfortunate head injury that saw Liam Rumsey withdrawn from the meeting. A bizarre heat one set the tone for the evening with the heat being run three times and ending with no Fen Tiger representative. After Captain Danny Halsey was discluded, the same fate fell on race partner Rumsey, unfortunately though an innocuous looking fall turned out to be his final action of the evening as a bang on the head resulted in his withdrawal with concussion. Heat two was much more to the visitors likely with their new reserve pairing of Luke Ruddick and Tom Bacon taking a 5-1, Ruddick taking the chequered flag to record a victory in his first National League race. With the Raiders looking much sharper from the gate they soon built a nine point lead before Bacon and Ruddick combined again in Heat 8 to reduce the deficit with a 4-2 heat win. By Heat 10 Mildenhall were eleven points in arrears and a Tactical ride was given to the promising Connor Mountain. Sadly a fall for Jack Kingston negated any chance of a heat victory as Mountain finished behind Robert Branford and the heat was drawn 4-4. Heat wins for Halsey and Mountain, with a fine pass outside Luke Priest, in heats 11 and 12 respectively showed the Fen Tigers warming to their task but they could do nothing to reduce the deficit and the Raiders ran out deserved winners by 51-40. After the meeting Team Manager Robert Henry was in philosophical mood - he said “Tonight certainly blew away some cobwebs and it was good for the lads to get a meeting under their belts. The track was a little tricky but it was the same for both sides and the Raiders adapted better than we did. That said there was plenty of promise shown and pointers to the future, I thought our two new reserves Tom (Bacon) and Luke (Ruddick) really got stuck in and made pleasing debuts, whilst Connor Mountain continues to improve with every meeting and is a most composed young racer. It was good to see Connor Coles back racing and he will only improve with more meetings. Liam took a bang to the head but should be fine for our cup tie with Kings Lynn next Sunday” Scorers - Rye House 51 - Luke Chessell 13 (5 rides), Rob Branford 12 (5), Luke Priest 9+2 (4), Kyle Hughes 8 (4), Sam Woods 6+1 (4), George Hunter 2+1 (5) and Danyon Hume 1 (4) Mildenhall 40 - Connor Mountain 12 (5 rides incl 4 point TR), Danny Halsey 8+1 (5), Connor Coles 6+1 (4), Luke Ruddick 6+1 (6), Tom Bacon 5+1 (5), Jack Kingston 3+1 (4) and Liam Rumsey 0 (1) -

Rye House Raiders V Mildenhall Saturday 7pm
PhilK replied to Paul's topic in National League Speedway
A lot of Mildenhall supporters are heading down to Rye House tomorrow so there should be a healthy crowd and plenty of support for both sides I'm really pleased to see the Raiders back in the National League, Rye House v Mildenhall meetings have always been a bit special right back to the seventies, whatever the league I haven't a clue what the result will be, lots of newcomers and comeback riders on show and I tend to agree with RocketBen1 when he says the reserves will play a big part, but it will be great to see the Fen Tigers get their 40th Anniversary season underway whatever the outcome. -
Can anyone help with the heat details and times (including second half) for these two meetings please? Dates are Friday 5th November 1976 v Iwade & Friday 12th November 1976 v Peterborough Thanks

Over 50 ex Fen Tigers and local Speedway luminaries have also been invited to share the day with supporters. The complete Championship winning side from 1979 will be in attendance, led by current Team Manager and then Team Captain Robert Henry plus Ray Bales, Mick Hines, Melvyn Taylor, Mike Spink, Mick Bates, Richard Knight and Team Manager Ron Bagley. From the very early days current promoter Kevin Jolly (a 1975 Fen Tiger himself) will welcome old team mates Bob ‘The Rock’ Coles, Paul Clipstone, Fred Mills, John Gibbons plus original co-promoter’s Colin Barber and Terry Waters. Add to that World Champions Michael Lee and Mark Loram, Ipswich legends John Louis, Tony ‘Shrimp’ Davey and Ted Howgego plus many more Fen Tigers from across the 40 years and supporters won’t know which way to look! The club are also pleased to welcome back the ‘Bernie Klatt Memorial Trophy’ as the club remember and recognise in their 40th season the massive impact Bernie had on the club in its formative years. The trophy will be ridden for over four heats and will feature three newcomers to the Fen Tigers ranks Tom Bacon, Luke Ruddick and Connor King, plus returning Liam Rumsey. Promoter Kevin Jolly felt this was a perfect way to remember Bernie – he said – “Bernie was there from the very start, the training days before we even entered the league, and he always wanted to see new young riders coming through the training days and second halves into the Mildenhall line – up, I am sure he would have approved of the opportunities we are giving to Tom, Luke and Connor in particular and this will be a fine way of remembering him. I am very grateful to Barry and the Klatt family for putting forward a Trophy for today’s event, the Klatt family will always be synonymous with Mildenhall speedway and it will be great to see them on Sunday” As well as 24 heats of Speedway to enjoy, there will be plenty of action off track, with Retro Speedway in attendance with many items from their excellent range of DVD’s, books and magazines available, Johnny Barber’s Track shop will be full of new Mildenhall items to buy, whilst in the Fenman bar local author Roy Brazier will be selling his books on Mildenhall Speedway and also in the bar area during the afternoon the 1979 Championship side will be present to chat with supporters and sign autographs and have photographs taken. Supporters arriving at the main entrance will have an opportunity to purchase sacks of potatoes in a throwback to the Palmer Trophy’s of the late seventies, and to bring things more up to date in the Speedway World, Grid Girls promotions will be supplying Start Line Girls for the event. Club promoter Kevin Jolly is glad that the wait is nearly over – he said – ‘So much effort has gone into today from so many people, and now at last we are nearly ready to race! A big thank you to all! Also to all the heat sponsors and supporters who have purchased race jackets, as always the Mildenhall fans have been incredibly supportive and generous. This has been a fantastic winter for the club and this will be the icing on cake prior to the start of our league season. The lads are raring to go after a successful Press and Practice and are looking forward to showing supporters that they mean business this season. I feel we have put together a very competitive line-up featuring many faces that are very familiar around West Row and the racing will be fast and competitive. I will leave naming a winner to others! Mildenhall this Sunday is definitely the place to be and I look forward to seeing many faces, old and new, during the day”. The gates will be open from 1.30pm, with Ex-Riders being announced to the crowd from 3pm, and the meeting due to start at 3.30pm. Please arrive early to avoid the crowds! Lined up as our First meeting of the season, should be a close call, but I'd say a home win by 4-6, meeting to be won or lost at reserve

Speedway Star & Classic Speedway Paper Quality
PhilK replied to Dave Stummings's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Just out of interest, was the paper similiar to the horrible effort by the new ExtraTime/Backpass magazine? Thankfully that has lasted for just one issue before Backpass has returned to it's previous format!! -
Return of the Magnificent Seven for 40th Anniversary Palmer Trophy Sunday 4th November 1979 is a day that remains etched in many Fen Tigers supporters memory, especially the 2,500 plus that travelled to Scunthorpe either by car or in the convoy of seven coaches that headed to Ashby Ville to witness the events unfold. Move forward over 35 years and the West Row based club are delighted to announce that the seven riders that won the National League Championship on that late autumn Sunday will be in attendance at the clubs 40th Anniversary Palmer Trophy meeting on Sunday 29th March along with their Team Manager and guide Ron Bagley. Current Team Manager and Captain of the 1979 League Champions Robert Henry will be joined by team mates Ray Bales, Mike Spink, Melvyn Taylor, Richard Knight, Mick Hines and Mick Bates. With a guest list that already includes many Mildenhall greats and more still promised this news will be the icing on the cake for Fen Tiger Fans. Promoter Kevin Jolly said - ‘This is something very special, to get all these lads back together at Mildenhall for our 40th Anniversary meeting is wonderful news for the club and our fans. Everyone I spoke to was so happy to be invited and their presence will add to what is a looking like being a memorable day for the club. We are looking to set up a ‘meet and greet’ where supporters can chat with Ron (Bagley) and the team, get autographs and have photos taken. These boys love the sport and love to talk speedway and I am sure there will be many stories to tell and laughs to be had as they share their memories of that great season. I am confident that we will have in the region of 50 plus ex-Fen Tigers as guests on the 29th March ranging from 1975 through to the present day and will be announcing further names next week. We should also be in a position to finalise the full line-up of the Palmer Trophy as well’.
