Just back from a fantastic away trip! Have to say Rick I didn't hear anything untoward, and to be fair Lewis Blackbird had somewhat assumed the role of 'pantomime villian'after his antics in heat 11. There was nothing malicious to be honest just good natured banter. The three of us stood amongst a group of Dudley supporters throughout the evening and they were to a man, friendly, knowledgeable, humourous and very gracious in defeat They were a credit to their club and hopefully we can both reach the play offs and meet again Cameron Heeps was very special tonight, its hard to believe he is just 15 years old, his bike control, speed, and passing ability are a joy to watch. He was beaten just the once in seven rides, by Tom Perry in a brilliant race in heat 12 that was as good s you will see anywhere, a very courageous ride by Perry to keep ahead of the ever pressing Heeps. Captain Hargreaves had his best meeting for Mildenhall and decent support was received from Baseby, Jacobs and Blackbird. For Dudley Perry was very impressive, and Franklin never gave up all night. It was good to hear that Ashley Morris was up and walking about in hospital before we left. All in all a night to remember in the Midlands for a decent contingent of Mildenhall supporters!

Very true

Sure I heard it announced last night that the Scunny/Sheff meeting wil be a double header with a PL meeting at Rye House!
-
Much the same last night greyhoundp! Really hope they get some big crowds during the holidays as the IoW is a great set up

Bloody English weather! Gutted for the Fen Tigers who looked like amassing a big lead for the 2nd leg! Now for the long haul home
-
Cheers David The massive downpour at 4.15 proved it to be the correct decision!
-
I'm sitting in my back garden Mildenhall in bright sunshine, so I assume serious damage was done to the track yesterday during the heavy rain David? A real shame, but at least with an early call off we have made other arrangements for today Hopefully the weather will be better on Tuesday

Thought there may have been a thread started for this meeting by now! Possibly the Fen Tigers biggest meeting to date this season, a lead of 16 - 20 points would set up the 2nd leg nicely, and hopefully be enough to see us through to face the Stoke Potters in the final. I thought IoW had signed Charlie Saunders?? No sign here and not riding against Kings Lynn tomorrow.

As 2ndbendpostie said to you this is a Mildenhall thread, so please leave your vitriolic attacks on Jerran Hart to the PL thread To answer your question, he is indeed in my opinion a real talent, and showed his true professionalism more off the track than on it this weekend, by staying away from Cardiff and preparing for Sundays meeting in the correct manner! That said yes he will be reserve at some point for Ipswich, but personally i'd give him a second season at Mildenhall, with him starting at Number 8 for Ipswich and then perhaps being given his chance around this time next year if all is well. There is no need to rush him, and I personally think with that approach Ipswich will reap the benifit for the next two-three years.

Well we had to wait along time to see Cameron, but on this showing he is an exciting addition to British Speedway. His gating was not as bad as I was led to believe, but his craft on a bike and passing ability was there for all to see. Mildenhall now must have the best reserve pairing in the league and that should stand us in good sted as we get into the business end of the season. Too many falls when leading (three in the first four races)on a dificult track meant we were always up against it against a useful Buxton side. Jack Hargreaves in particular took a nasty fall in heat one which resulted in him having to withdraw from the meeting, but thankfully he wasn't badly hurt. Mark Baseby on his debut looked fast but struggled to get to grips with the track and fell twice when in good positions, he will surely improve. For Buxton Robert Branford was excellent value, and Adam Allott looked good when he gated. Another good crowd on a sweltering afternoon and it's 6 out 6 at home Highlight of the day was Norwichkevs visit to the ice cream van, possibly the longest journey seen at Mildenhall Speedway

Thanks for the link. A short career here to put it mildly

I was looking through a Speedway Star from Janaury 1981 and came across an article which made mention of a young Aussie by the name of Alan Jones He had been recommended to Birmingham by Hans Nielsen and terms had been offered to the teenager. I have no memory of him, amd wondered if he actually arrived and rode in 1981? and how his career progressed following such a recommendation

Well done RT! Cameron has met all the requirements of the BSPA, and hopefully now he will be allowed to get on with his speedway. He does have immense promise and potential, and seems a likeable lad, but he has never ridden NL speedway and Is still only 15. Hopefully too much won't be expected immediately of him by supporters (Aljack)and he will be given the time he needs to settle into British speedway.

Any news on the Buxton seven for Sunday?

A meeting not to be missed and the sun is due to shine. PLEASE NOTE IT IS NOW A 4.30PM START TAKEN FROM MILDENHALL OFFICIAL WEBSITE - www.mildenhallfentigers.co Cameron Cleared To Ride! Wednesday, 22 June 2011 16:51 | Mildenhall Fen Tigers have had a massive boost to their title hopes, after teenage Aussie star Cameron Heeps, was finally given clearance to ride in the National League. The 15-year-old arrived in the country a month ago, but wasn’t able to take his place in the team until his paperwork and documentation was completed. Tigers co-promoter Chris Louis said, “It’s been frustrating that it’s taken so long but we are delighted that Cameron is finally able to ride for us. He should be in the team for Sunday’s match against Buxton and I am sure he’ll get a warm welcome from our supporters who’ve waited patiently for this to happen." The Tigers have also confirmed that Mark Baseby has been signed as a direct replacement for skipper James Brundle, who has now left West Row to ride in the Premier League for Rye House Rockets. “It’s disappointing to lose James as we had originally been told that he could double up. That decision has now been reversed and James is gutted that he can’t finish the season with us. But we have to accept the situation and we all wish James the best and know he’ll do well. "Mark is a top class replacement and couldn’t wait to sign when he heard we wanted him back at West Row. He’s been impressed with the progress his brother Aaron has made and loves the feel good factor at the club, especially the atmosphere created by the fans, who’ve played a huge part in his decision to return to Mildenhall. I’m certain he’ll do a great job for us." The team changes mean there has been a shake-up in the Fen Tigers riding order for this Sunday's clash against Buxton. Jack Hargreaves switches to Number 1 and will be partnered by Aaron Baseby. Danny Halsey and Lewis Blackbird stay at 3 and 4 with Mark Baseby coming in at 5. The reserves will be Cameron Heeps at 6 and Joe Jacobs at 7. Louis concluded, “I’m happy we have a strong 1-7 as we come into the busy and crucial part of the season. I’m sure we’ll have a big crowd eager to see the new boys in action against Buxton on Sunday." James Brundle’s departure means the National League meeting against Buxton at West Row on Sunday 26th June now reverts back to it’s original start of 4.30pm with gates opening at the usual time of 3.00pm. Revised Tigers lineup: 1. Jack Hargreaves, 2. Aaron Baseby , 3. Daniel Halsey , 4. Lewis Blackbird , 5. Mark Baseby ©, 6. Cameron Heeps , 7. Joe Jacobs

National League Pairs
PhilK replied to vog's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Bizarre is the word HT! You are only talking two more races, surely not that difficult. With the dodgy weather around the country plus a large number of speedway fans heading back to the area for the GP next weekend it was hardly suprising that there was a low crowd. Not the best planning as usual Well done to the Fen Tigers lads, a fine effort. -
Exactly Jane I haven't seen anyone on here suggesting 3 or 4 Aussies per team, we all want to see young Brits improve and progress, but as you say limited (One per team?) Aussies do add colour to the league and have been proven to help stand alone clubs crowds which must be good for the overall success of the National League. Those that are most vociferous against any Australian riders in the NL, hide behind the fact that it stops the progression and opportunity for Young Brits, however they don't want to argue that some of the elder statesmen in the NL are doing exactly the same so why not ban them to?? It is a legitimate arguement and a fact, although not one I would personally support. These same people also don't want to point the finger at the real culprit, the Premier League promoters who continue to load their sides with overseas riders, especially those that use these riders in the reserve berths. There are a number of riders, currently in the NL, who showed considerable potential, but due to lack of opportunity or given little time when an opportunity arose at PL level, have stagnated and in some cases gone backwards. If there is not a route for these riders to continue their development then worrying about the occasional Australian rider in the NL seems pretty futile to me.

Works for me, couldn't do Friday, but the 8th July looks much better

Was never going to be a close contest when Scunthorpe arrived with all four double uppers and Barrie Evans as a guest Fair play though all four riders have come up through the ranks. The rider who impressed me was Steffan Nielsen very unlucky to have what seemed like clutch problems after passing Hughes and the Rayson in heat 1. Looks fast, aggressive and hungry to suceed. If Scunny are not going to give him a regular place in their seven maybe he could be the answer to Mildenhalls no 6 position?
