  1. A real problem Jules.Unless you come from a family or friends who know about such things,it's pick it up as you go along! Wasted time in my opinion,as when you go to training tracks etc,you spend more time tinkering with the bikes than riding them. Don't know why there has never been a manual printed on how to get started, covering all the basics. There's a wealth of knowledge out there & it seems it only gets passed around by word of mouth. I remember wanting to ride speedway when i was 13,didn't know a thing about bikes & engines, brought up by footballing family, gave up in the end because it seemed a very difficult sport to get into. Go to the Somerset website & read the diary pages,a real insite into problems faced by family's & their offspring wanting to ride speedway!
  2. Newport station is in the centre of Newport itself. I can recommend for anyone travelling to cardiff to go by train from Bristol Parkway.40 mins & about £10 return.Plenty of safe parking as well. Remember,Cardiff central is 5mins walk to stadium. Bridge toll £4.90,parking in Cardiff a remortgage job! Also motorway into Cardiff is Gridlock at moment,I know 'cos i do it every weekend. So can really advise travelling from this side of the bridge by train. Can also recommend Bar HaHa by the castle, for good food & drink & atmostphere. Chav & Charlotte Church types don't reside here. Unfortunately i'm Johnny no mates this year,so if anyone wants a pint & chat all things speedway,i'l be the one not wearing Wulfsport & 2 foot of year bars,Just a small Bristol Bulldogs Pin badge.Ciao 4 now.
  3. Saw Brenden race for the first time, last night at Somerset. Wow,blown away, can't believe it,for one so young. Hope he fulfills his dream of one day being world CHAMPION ! Will be watching with interest his development. Good luck for the future Brenden.

  5. An Ikea,Tesco's,Burgerking the lot.Hope they build a load more on there, just to annoy the NIMBY's that complained about the speedway! Would any of you guys no where the speedway track used to be in Pontypridd? Heard there used to be one there!
  6. Just trawled through the action shots in men & machines section of the website.Peter Craven & Peter Collins photo's awesome.Does anyone know the best way to go about obtaining prints of these? They would look smashing on my office wall.Pure nostalgia!!!
  7. Whatever happened to him? I used to enjoy watching him,a real tryer.
  8. That's sad news,my father was only talking to me about him & Geoff Pymar today!
  9. Hi everyone. Can anyone tell me where i can get inrormation showing all the race jacket designs that have ever exsisted.Don't know if such information is recorded, but would appreciate it if someone could put me in the right direction. If not,i have an old race jacket that i am trying to identify. It is dark blue front & back. The front design is a shield, with a 'V' inside,& wings attached either side of the shield.A bit like Harringay. The design is all in yellow. On the inside of the jacket are the names,Jack parker,Ken Worlock & Bournemouth! Any ideas? Cheers.
  10. Hi all,new to this forum, after a few years in the wilderness, have returned to the speedway fraternity.Really have the bug again.Started watching bulldogs in 77,then continued with Swindon up 'til 99.Now at the rebels. When i saw this thread my heart jumped for joy! Purchased the aforementioned DVD,awesome!!! Brought memories flooding back. What's even better,is me & the old man are on it! Bob Coles' infamous crash,my old man's the guy in the white bobble hat 'ducking for cover'& i'm stood next to him,all of 12 years old.Great days!!! Stevie Gresham was my childhood hero.Even used to get in the pits at Eastville, old mans mate was pit marshall! Got all the old riders autographs,Mauger,Collins,Olsen etc.Schoolboys heaven!!! Cheers Bulldog 77 78,you've made me & my dad very happy. Re;Bulldogs in Bristol. Always thought land between Yate & Bath would be suitable, just off m4 jnctn 18.No houses, easily accessed & loads of land not being used.Just golf clubs being built.Just a thought for those in the Know!!! Ciao 4 now.
