  2. I found this a really absorbing cycle speedway site and a fantastic record of Newcastle and area cycle speedway over many years. However, I do not think that it is anyway linked to a motorcycle speedway website for Newcastle Speedway.
  3. I am sure we would all like to see an update on this meeting with names and scorers please. What league competition is this?
  4. Here's an interesting history site dealing with cycle speedway. http://www.universityofbmx.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=163&Itemid=70
  5. The renowned Norwegian star 'Basse' Hveem was another 1950s favourite with Durban Hornets. He was the first Norwegian to get a 'Top 20' place when the 'Speedway Star' used to have a World Ratings list at the end of the year.
  6. Here's all the available data on Welling Wings. http://www.cyclespeedwayhistory.org.uk/583.shtml
  7. April 10, 2012 HORSPATH v WEDNESFIELD http://www.cyclespeedway.tv/ Watch and enjoy. What a nicely laid out track and surrounds.
  8. For anyone interested in taking up cycle speedway, these details from The Spokesman may be of interest: http://www.spokesman-online.co.uk/coaching_235.html
  9. The Elite League action Lakeside Hammers against Wolverhampton gets underway at the Arena Essex Raceway on Friday April 20 with the parade of riders scheduled for 7.45pm and first race at 8pm. There will also be an Anglian Junior League match that sees the Young Hammers take on Rye House and that will be over six heats starting at 6.45pm.
  10. Great stuff to watch. Really enjoyed watching the two videos - and the small track reminded me so much of where I first saw speedway in 1946, at the renowned New Cross "frying pan". More video cycle speedway links please.
  11. ELITE LEAGUE RESULTS APRIL 8 Hotspath 91 Wednesfield 85 Leicester 90 Ipswich 83 Sheffield 94 Poole 84
  12. Crazy indeed. But i expect that it's 'Elf 'n Safety guidelines. We have all read of crazy situations like people drowning in 3ft ponds while fireman/police cannot enter the water because of their guidelines. Or the case where 25 firemen turned up to help a trapped seagull in another 3ft pond but couldn't enter the water because of their guidleines. Then an ordinary man wearing waders went in rescued the trapped bird. This incident regarding the American rider is another case in point. The 'Daily Mail' is keenly interested in this sort of thing - they carried the above items only on Saturday. They could be interested in this matter - phone their news desk to tell them. Sorry, I don't have their phone number. That American rider could have been really seriously injured. I am pleased to hear that he is on the road to recovery.
  13. The first cycle speedway team I ever saw - at the 'Marquis of Granby' track. Very early in 1946 on a Sunday lunch hour. The top rider was a fellow Clifton Rise School pupil who I only ever knew as 'Fatty' James but he was the star rider that day. http://www.cyclespeedwayhistory.org.uk/448.shtml
  14. Am I right in assuming these USA teams are basically by invitation with riders funding their own costs, less money raised by donations etc in America? In other words riders - and there have been some good ones - who are prepared to make their own outlay on costs to visit the UK.
  15. It's a good idea to have a SEPARATE thread for AJL fixtures and results. It would be a good idea if similar leagues also set up threads for their results and fixtures.
  16. This is all beginning to look like the aftermath of the Australian-staged GP a couple of years ago.
  17. Over the past two weeks when attendances are quoted 'Speedway Star' gives a 15,000 gate for the NZGP.
  18. Thanks. I thought it was a fixture list for the AJL. I can see now that the fixtures are only for Mldenhall Fen Tiger Cubs matches.

  20. Johnnie Hoskins wrote a book (maybe a couple) in the early 1930s. Is there any reference to the Maitland meeting in December 1923? If so, what did he say? Maybe that could help to sort out this matter?
  21. I think this link covers the above meeting and also other Easter holiday racing. http://www.spokesman-online.co.uk/page_352.html
  22. We used to fit cable brakes when riding on the road, removing them to race, then refitting them to cycle home.
  23. Why is there a MDL match at Rye House involving two teams competing in an area not relative to the club? Where's the Rye House Anglian Junior League side?
