Gp In Auckland 2012
speedyguy replied to Bradford Ace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
What country? I have cuttings from several New Zealand newspapers with reports from the GP at Western Springs. They all list Jason Bunyan as representing New Zealand. This week's 'Speedway Star' page 30 (May 5 2012) lists Bunyan in its Grand Prix Points feature as Great Britain. Which is correct? -

A good career? Until you are possibly forced out of the sport because your average is too hight and does not meet the needed criteria and a rider of lesser ability takes your place because his lower average fits. -
Following on from the undoubted success of the recent GP at Western Springs, what plans and efforts are being made by New Zealand speedway promoters to capitalise on a possible upsurge of interest in the 2012-13 season for solo speedway racing?

Anglia Junior League - Fixtures & Results Only!
speedyguy replied to PhilK's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Preview Update: Rockets vs Plymouth (Saturday, May 5th 2012) The Rye House Silver Ski Rockets will aim to finally get their home League Cup programme off the ground – and the Plymouth Devils their away fixtures – when the two sides meet at Rye House this Saturday, with a 7pm start. The main 15 heats are set to be followed by a further six, as the Pocket Rockets meet their Lakeside counterparts in the Anglian Junior League. -
The chances are that had David Mason not broken down en route to the meeting Rye House would have done enough to win on aggregate.

The Lakeside Hammers return to action at the Arena Essex Raceway this Friday evening, 4th May, in style with a mouth-watering clash with the Poole Pirates. The Elite League action is due to get underway on Friday at 8pm, but prior to that, at 6.45pm, the Young Hammers are scheduled to meet the Mildenhall Tiger Cubs in an Anglian Junior League match. -

Sadly the old club ethic has gone out of speedway. Your comments on rider loyalty to club (and of course club loyalty to rider) vanished many years ago - leading to the problems that now afflict the sport. -

I knew you would come up trumps on something to Good old P1928nearly. I knew you would come up trumps with more details about Niall Strudwick. -
I think you will find the writer of the book referred to is not an experienced speedway author-historian but merely wrote a one-off book about her father Col Stewart as a tribute to him. In which case most likely it did not occur to her to itemise with dates and publications the press cuttings she was referring to. It is a nice little publication and had a limited print run.

Niall Strudwick is, I am certain, a cousin of Lee Strudwick, the former Wimbledon and Rye House (NL) rider, Niall used to practice at Plough Lane after the meeting in 2004 and 2005 when about 14 years of age, If I am wrong I am sure my old pal P1928nearly will soon correct me. Niall has in the past couple of years posted some good stuff on the Defunct Speedways website - a lot of it devoted to Crystal Palace. -

Phil - many thanks for the new title to this thread. Cycle speedway recognised at last by the BSF - very grateful indeed. Fingers crossed that the interest momentum continues - remember cycle speedway followers - "SKY TV may be watching you!" Coventry will not be staging the British Over 40s Club Championship on June 2. It will now be hosted by Leicester. Entries close on Wednesday May 2 this week. -

That's great news. It shows that cycle speedway is being recognised in important places - and rightly so. -

This would never happen in motorcycle speeway: from The Spokesman on-line: Astley Fined and Warned Astley & Tyldesley CSC has been fined £100 and warned about its future conduct following irregularities at two Northern Combination fixtures, Astley v Hull and Astley v Sheffield. The club was found guilty of deliberately attempting to mislead the public by misrepresenting the reporting of the event by including the name of a rider who did not take part in the matches. The full disciplinary findings can be viewed on http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/about/article/British-Cycling-Disciplinary-Home -
That's a good idea but unlikely to get much support from the mods. Cycle speedway has been trying for more than a month since it start in International Speedway, Grass Track etc section. Over a 105 replies and 1,500 views but it hasn't succeeded so far - just bravely operates un-named. I suggest you put the plea in the Support Section of the THIS FORUM to be found at the bottom of the board. I wish you luck with any effort thatr you may make. Help please: (1) Actual date for the match (2) The home team and track if Rye House were away (3) Was it a challenge or league match Many thanks.

Any info on what the council said in their rejection of support for the event? -
Maybe they could tempt Mark 'Buzz' Burrows into a come-back? And there's also Barrie Evans - but probably too far for him to travel for home meetings?

I read on The Spokesman on-line that a TV production company is discussing with the sport's governing body the possibility of screenng highlights of Elite League cycle speedway matches. Does anyone know if there have been further developments?
