Sheffield vs Ipswich 13th May
Aries replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Ipswich should be looking to keep this closer than previous years due to having stronger reserves. Rew has shown signs he’s finally adapting to British racing this year. He’s a rider that holds his own in Poland, has cleaned up at U21 level in Australia winning all the titles, and has had a reputation as a big talent for a couple of years now. He SHOULD be getting the better of both Sheffield reserves even on their own track. Even Jenkins posted better digits than both Sheffield reserves in both leagues last year. This is the area Ipswich have to target to be competitive here. -
Birmingham vs King’s Lynn, May 13th 2024
Aries replied to SamKM91's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
szkocjasid is spot on there’s a world of difference here. The forecast today for Birmingham is for light rain from 3pm, turning to heavy rain from 6pm lasting through the entire night. An early call off in these circumstances is accepted. We ALL can read a weather forecast. The difference is Chapman called off a meeting citing a poor forecast, when every one of us could see there was no rain forecast at all. It was blatantly another lie, another excuse to call off a meeting due to other reasons, probably another missing rider. He then realises he can’t use the same excuse again, neither can he use a “broken pit gate” excuse again when a couple of his team are away on Danish duty, so his latest call off is to just be honest for once and admit he’s calling it off because his Pole is missing! The Sooner this cretin is out of the sport the better. -

https://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/22475/kings-lynn-premiership-06-2024 Reading the comments on the updates site from heat 6 onwards, as well as the heat times compared to the first 6 heats, I’d say that’s completely accurate. Anyone saying conditions were fine and there was nothing wrong with the track, are either trolling or need an urgent visit to specsavers. Riders were giving up on track, some weren’t even attempting to slide their machines and were free wheeling around the bends. -

Thompson is going to be hot property this coming winter. I know a lot on here say riders ride where they want to ride and the asset system is worthless and while that’s true to a certain degree, from my experience riders generally won’t rock the boat when their parent club tell them they’re in their team. A few will and dig their heels in if they want to ride elsewhere, but the majority don’t. Thompson will almost certainly be ineligible for the rising star scheme next year due to his average, and Leicester will already have their eyes on including him as their number 6 on a 25% reduced bargain average. Louis would do well to enquire the cost of buying his contract from Leicester to avoid the risk of losing him. Rider contracts being swapped for actual money is very rare these days but if you have a wealthy backer, then sometimes it’s worth doing. This is one of those cases. Whoever lands Thompson on a 25% reduced average that should see him back in a reserve berth, will immediately have an advantage over everyone else. -

I don’t believe anyone does actually Steve. As Chris Louis said last night, it’s been a wonderful time recently for Suffolk sport. The football team have just been promoted to the top tier, and the Speedway club currently sit top of the table. Then all of a sudden you’re getting barbs being fired from Norfolk way that look nothing more than petty pathetic jealousy considering the problems that are currently going on at their club. “glenantony” has posted a very long winded gripe about Chris Louis and Ipswich speedway for having the temerity to start their meeting yesterday ON TIME, and yet I notice he hasn’t made any kind of thoughts on his club postponing yet another fixture because a rider is missing. Strange that isn’t it? Seems also to be a few new accounts all posting very similar things on this thread. Again, strange.. -

It’s completely irrelevant what YOU would prefer. You’re talking utter b0llocks here and you’re just coming across as a bitter fan of a local rival with an axe to grind. I’ve seen nobody get “defensive’ on here, just people stating facts that the meeting started bang ON TIME, which it did. You’re whinging for whinging’s sake. Honestly it’s a bit rich coming from a fan of a club that calls off bloody meetings due to non existent “poor” forecast! I’d concentrate on your own clubs massive failings if I were you. Enjoy the meeting on Thursday. Oh that’s off as well is it? -

Ellis and Nicholls around Foxhall against Palm Toft and Basso in the middle pairings has 5-1’s written all over it. -
Doesn’t have any such issues in Poland though Badge. Still consistently beating the world’s best. Why does he have engine “issues” this year but was on rocketships last year? Sorry but I’m dubious of a rider of his calibre going in to May not having sorted out mechanical issues.

That’s because Belle Vue DO have the biggest home advantage in the league, let’s not pretend otherwise here. Why are you all saying you’ll take all the aggregate bonus points if that wasn’t the case? Nobody racks up home scores in to the mid to high 50’s at home as consistently as Belle Vue do. The stats are there for all to see! The only team that occasionally make a decent fist of it there are Sheffield, probably because their riders also have a decent set up for big fast tracks. You need to be fast at the NSS, otherwise you get swallowed up very quickly even if you make the start. The home boys have the set up to a T, away riders very often struggle for speed around there, even the very best.

Belle Vue v Ipswich 22nd April
Aries replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Problem with waiting for the averages to change first is you probably can’t change anyone to re-declare the 1-7 collectively under the limit. Ipswich are already over by the looks of it. All you can then do is change a rider for another with the same or lower average individually. Jenkins for example, has a current average over 4, so you could in theory swap him out now for Ben Barker in a straight swap. Wait until the average change, and that swap might not be possible and you lose your chance due to Jenkins average going south. TTT was correct in what he said earlier, Ipswich could and SHOULD have won the title last year. All they needed to do was change a rider who was ill and not performing anywhere near his capabilities. Why they didn’t make that change only they know, but it cost them. Ipswich make some very frustrating and baffling decisions at times when it comes to team building. Last year Kemp and Rowe were sitting there waiting to be picked up as a rising star, and some bright spark at Ipswich decided to go for Joe Thompson! Who made that decision to go with a clearly inferior option and why? They always seem to build a great looking team two thirds of the way through, and then ruin it by signing a duffer or two to finish the team that they ended up having to carry. Yes if you’re going to go top heavy then averages dictate that you’ll be weaker lower down, but even this year due to Jenkins getting the 25% reduction they ended up a point under the limit and didn’t take advantage. They build good teams, but they could and probably should be building even better than they do. Don’t hold on to underperforming riders too long if you have title aspirations because you can bet your last Rolo, that your rivals won’t . Still no title in either league for Louis junior on his CV, despite great backing from very good sponsors. -
Belle Vue v Ipswich 22nd April

Exactly right. As I said yesterday, those trying to compare the two were comparing Apples with Oranges. One plane took off on time, one plane didn’t leave the ground. Genuinely can’t believe one or two idiots on here were calling for Doyle to get a ban! What did you want him to do? Sprout a couple of wings and fly over himself? -
Belle Vue v Ipswich 22nd April
Aries replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Maybe because Tungate wasn’t even in the same country? How long are you going to wait? It’s down to the SCB to do their own investigation as to why Tungate missed his flight. Maybe they weren’t happy with the reasons given? Fact remains, one flight took off on time and one didn’t take off at all. As I say, apples and oranges. Calling for a ban for a rider who was on his flight and told to get off it is bloody ridiculous. -

They’re not similar though are they. One’s plane departed on time but just didn’t get on it, the other got on his plane and was told to get off it as it wasn’t taking off. You’re comparing apples with oranges. Think one or two from Sheffield way are calling for a ban because they sniff an opportunity with Sheffield riding at Foxhall on Thursday.. -

You can’t ban a rider for sitting on his booked flight, and then through no fault of his own is told to get off it! That’s just ludicrous. -
Ipswich vs Oxford 18th April

Yes, that’s because in the last three seasons he’s failed to score double figures on three occasions in his last eight visits, but two of those three were paid double figures. You got stick because despite being presented with the facts that totally went against your argument, you decided to stick your fingers in your ears and die on that hill which made you look stupid. Last three seasons at Foxhall 7+1 9+2 11+1 9+1 14+1 14+1 12+2 10+3 Why do people just blatantly Lie? I’d say Thursdays poor performance was very much UNLIKE Harris’ “usual Foxhall self” from recent history. Again, that’s because in recent years he’s scored double figures there more often than he hasn’t. It really isn’t difficult to understand is it, Orion? Well for some people it clearly is! -
That happens at every single club in every single division though BB. I’d bet no team actually track a 1-7 they originally pencil in, and end up drafting from their B and C lists. Riders change their minds all over the shop, especially when they get better offers obviously. Clubs themselves do likewise. Only way to stop that happening is to get signatures on paper rather than verbal agreements.

Lions v Witches knockout cup 1st April
Aries replied to Badge's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
They were I agree. Feel a bit for Jenkins. The lad was a rising star last year, moved to senior reserve this year and two meetings in moves to number 2 in the main body! That’s harsh especially when you look at Leicester’s top 5 and who he was up against. He was mixing it though and was on the pace. Rew temporarily dropping to reserve might be seen as some as an advantage, but personally the quicker Rew and Jenkins swap back again the better for Ipswich as a team. Just looks more balanced with Rew able to hold his own in the main body and Jenkins contributing more from the reserve berth where he should be. Tie should be in the bag for Ipswich and with all due respect, Birmingham in the semi finals should comfortably see them in the final again. As for Leicester, I’d probably be glad this wasn’t a league fixture. Think I’d rather lose an early home cup fixture than an early home league defeat which can leave you chasing the pack from the get go. -

Don’t think there was much choice in the end to use Joe again once Dan got injured at the ar$e end of the season but that almost certainly cost them the title in the end. Two points across the play off final meetings for Joe proved costly. Dan was flying until his shoulder injury. Mind you, Ipswich should never have signed Joe in the first place! -
6.66 more suited for him.
