  1. Well done to Joe Jacobs on his performance last night. Had the Panthers kept the Brit, rather than signing the rubbish German, it would be them heading for the play-offs rather than Workington. All the best Rob
  2. Both meetings MUST still to staged... after the cut-off. Season not over until October 31st. All the best Rob
  3. I don't think it's been mentioned on this thread, so hoping Flyin' Ryan had a good 21st today. All the best Rob
  4. Spinny, you might win something this season yet (although Rye are doing their best to deny you) All the best Rob
  5. But Lewis Blackbird is not a new signing. And if it's blocked just use him as a guest, on the account he's still in Eastbourne's declared line up All the best Rob
  6. Yes, it was a double-header mopping up a Mildenhall home fixture and Newport home fixture if I recall correctly. Around the year 2000. Peterborough won the league in a last-header decider - 45-44? But another precedent to stagings meetings on neutral tracks if they can't be held on the home team's track. All the best Rob
  7. Maybe King's Lynn could invite Devon along for the second half on Wednesday, and stage Devon's meeting themselves. That would be one solution. In 2004, a Peterborough vs Oxford meeting was held at Arena Essex, to get it in for the play-off deadline. All the best Rob
  8. SCORPIONS OUT TO SHOW TITLE CREDENTIALS FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions are out to prove that there are serious title contenders when they entertain the Berwick Bandits in Premier League action at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Tuesday evening (7.30pm). Scunthorpe look all set to finish fifth in the Premier League table. It would now take a mathematical miracle for the Scorpions to be denied a top six place and a place in the championship play-offs, with Glasgow requiring a maximum of 14 points from their remaining meetings, with the Scorpions failing to score. The last mathematical doubt is likely to be removed on Tuesday, with the staging of the Scunthorpe vs Berwick and Peterborough vs Glasgow meetings. All the signs are that the Scorpions are hitting their best form just at the right time of the season. Faced with 7 meetings in 11 days between August 27 and September 6, the Scorpions took 13 points from those meetings, dropping just one point at home, while picking up 5 away points. In fact, had single point defeats at Peterborough (44-45) and Berwick (46-47) been turned into wins, the Scorpions would have actually accrued 17 points over that period. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s all about peaking at the right time of the season, and I’m convinced that’s what is happening with us. “I’ve said all season long that I believe we could win the championship this season, and I think a lot of other people are starting to see that we will be serious contenders in the play-offs. “We built a team that we believed would just get stronger as the season progressed and that what’s happened. “Finishing top of the table means nothing. It’s all about the getting into the play-offs and taking good form into them. “We are planning to show that we mean business in the play-offs, with a convincing performance against Berwick on Tuesday. The Bandits are going to finish fourth in the table, but we nearly won at their place on Saturday, and we want to take a resounding win over the Bandits to show everyone we mean business. “There’s a buzz about the team at the moment, and I’m sure it’s going to be another great night of racing at the Eddie Wright Raceway.” Scunthorpe’s undoubted strength is six riders who can all score heavily, and Godfrey is keen to see that happen both on Tuesday night and for the rest of the season. He added: “David Howe is back to the rider we saw before he sustained his injuries in 2012, and Josh Auty is also looking better and better with each passing meeting. By the time, we reach the play-offs, we’ll see the Josh who topped our averages in each of the last two seasons. “Ashley Birks has also turned the corner with his form. He’s making the most of being at reserve, although to be fair to Ash, he scored paid 12 in his last meeting before he dropped to reserve, after sorting out his machinery troubles. “Ryan Douglas showed he can win the big races, when he won Heat 15 at Berwick on Saturday, and Thomas Jorgensen finished our last home meeting on fire. “Nicolai Klindt smashed David Howe’s three-year-old track record last Friday, and with paid 10 in both his last two performances for us, is showing signs of returning to the Nicolai that we saw when he first signed for us this season. “As for Tom Perry, it’s been tough for him so far, but he showed he could mix it in Heat 2 at home to Peterborough last week, and I’m sure he’ll come good.” Admission prices for Tuesday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Tuesday (English unless stated): FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. 9. Millsy is a great guy, I hope he's not too bad. Any news on teams? All the best Rob
  10. I notice Edinburgh have now managed to get in another home meeting before the cut-off date (double-header on 12th and single header on 13th), so they'll finish top and have first pick. I doubt very much if they'll pick Scunny. Well, they can, if they fancy going out at the group stage All the best Rob
  11. On current form, surely David Howe should be there? All the best Rob
  12. Interesting to see if the Scorpions can go well around Berwick tonight. Also interesting to see if Berwick take up the Ice Bucket challenge, as issued by Scunthorpe last night: http://scunthorpescorpions.co/?p=1897 All the best Rob
  13. Good night of speedway, despite Peterborough - apart from the mad Ostrich - failing to turn up. Well done to Scunny on now being 99% sure of being in the play-offs. Ice-bucket challenge.... can't really describe it... check out the photo here: http://scunthorpescorpions.co/?p=1897 All the best Rob
  14. Not sure about DOB, etc, but Layne is the brother of Faye Cupitt, the girlfriend of Tai Woffinden. All the best Rob

  16. Well, you certainly wouldn't have beat Scunny the other night without Ales Dryml. He was far better e.g. Lasse or Nicki B. All the best Rob
  17. DECISIVE MEETING AT EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY ON FRIDAY FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to all-but-mathematically clinch a place in the Premier League play-offs, by taking three points off rivals Peterborough Panthers at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm). Scunthorpe lost 44-45 in a tightly-contested encounter at Peterborough on Tuesday night, where they were a little unlucky not to win the meeting. However, the point gained for a narrow away loss moved the fifth-placed Scorpions just that little bit nearer to securing a place in the top six. Friday is well-and-truly a ‘seven pointer’, and its potential effect on the final league table could be significant. Three points for the Scorpions (for a win of seven points or more) would move them onto 43 points and mean either Workington or Peterborough would have to put together an impressive string of results to overhaul them in fifth place. The chances of both Peterborough and Workington BOTH going on such a run, to push the Scorpions down to seventh and out of the play-off places would be somewhat unlikely. However, four points to the Panthers (for an away win of seven points or more), and the Scorpions would still to left with work to do from their home and away meetings with Berwick (September 6 at Shielfield Park and September 9 at the Eddie Wright Raceway) and the visit to Rye House on September 13. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey enthused: “I think it’s going to be an absolute belter. The results between Scunthorpe and Peterborough this year have been 46-43, 46-44 and 45-44. Both teams ride the other team’s racetrack so well. “Both teams need the points from this meeting. I’m sure Peterborough will be fired up for the meeting, and I can assure everyone that our lads will be.” Since the reintroduction of the play-offs in 2012, the Premier League has become all about peaking at the right time, and Godfrey feels this is starting to happen with his team. “We’re now moving into the business end of the season”, he said. “We put in a shaky home performance to Redcar at the Eddie Wright Raceway last Wednesday in what was our first complete meeting for weeks, after the rain interrupted us for a few weeks. “But since then our riders have performed well - winning in fine style at Redcar, so nearly taking a point at Workington, beating Workington at home with some comfort, and being unfortunate not to win at Peterborough as well. “I feel we’re moving into form just at the right time. “Ash (Birks) has now kicked on, and he’s going to be a real asset down at reserve, just as David (Howe) was last month, and Thomas (Jorgensen) and Ryan (Douglas) were before that.” There are 24 heats of action in total, with a nine-heat second half, including a Midland Development League match between Castleford and Belle Vue. 18. More like a fifth or a sixth full. Meanwhile, there were abount 10 of us dotted along the back striaght. A cracking meeting between Peterborough and Scunny... watched by next to nobody! Incidentally, why was Peterborough vs Scunny taken off this thread title? It seems to be the match most of us are discussing. All the best Rob
  19. I would say it was one of the best meetings I've seen this season yesterday, but actually it was two of the best meetings, as the Scunny Stags meeting was superb as well. Fantastic 30 heats of speedway action - the Eddie Wright Raceway is quite simply the best racetrack in the country. David Howe's ride in Heat 15 was simply awesome. All the best Rob
  20. But David Howe is currently at reserve for Scunny, despite being 2nd in our 2014 averages - due to meetings from last year still counting!! It should be 16 meetings max for rolling averages. All the best Rob
  21. Since when has Coventry had a curfew? I'd known second halves finish at 11.20pm. All the best Rob
  22. Good grief... it looks like they're JUST started the second meeting... gonna be a l-o-n-g night All the best Rob
