Arnieg and SCB, here's a question for you both. Did the introduction of lay-down machines circa 1996 increase the number of injuries? But did the introduction of air fences to the Elite League in 2004, some other PL tracks in the following years, and then all PL & NL tracks in 2014, then negate this increase i.e. do we have more incidents these days, but only the same number of injuries, due to the presence of air fences? All the best Rob

Don't bring heart attacks up. You'll get the Monarchs fans bleating on for the next 156 pages of how Buster Chapman feigned at a heart attack at Armadale in 1862 to delay a meeting. Mind you, this could be a season when all the Monarchs fans mysteriously disappear off the forum around May time, only to strangely resurface next season if they've got a better team than Glasgow again. Congratulations to Glasgow on starting their season with a win. Hope you have a great season in the smashing new Ashfield. Note to Blobby: ONE!!! All the best Rob

Ipswich V Rye House 26-3-15
lucifer sam replied to Super Blue's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Unusual for Rye to have an away sun-off. They're normally at home. All the best Rob -
No idea Gustix, I guess the Sheffield fans might have a better idea. But the place was packed. Great to see. All the best Rob

Sheffield Vs Scunthorpe Lc 26/03/2015

Early season - so anything can happen. It would be great if the Scorpions can make it win No 6 on the trot at Owlerton. All the best Rob -
Yup, even better, a donation to both the SRBF and Ricky Ashworth. Just hope Ricky has thousands of people on Sunday. It's one meeting I am determined to make this year. All the best Rob

Yes, it's up to people to decide. Although I can't help feel that Adam Roynon might have shot himself in the leg by pulling out of the Ben Fund Bonanza at late notice for a dubious reason. People might be a little less generous in helping him for that reason. In fact, they might posslbly decide that a donation to the SRBF is a more worthy cause: http://www.srbf.co.uk/ Or maybe donate to the Ricky Ashworth Fund. All the best Rob

Erm, like the way he's QUALIFIED for both 2014 and 2015? All the best Rob

Yes, F1 cars used to be coloured by the nationality of the team: British = Green Italian = Red French = Blue German = Silver F1 was dominated by Italian and German teams to begin with, but then the late 50s saw the rise of the British teams. Vanwall, Cooper, BRM, Lotus, Brabham (Jack Brabham was Australian, but the team was British), etc. I think nearly all, if not all, of these had green liveries. I think the progressive Colin Chapman at Lotus was the first owner in F1 to land a big sponsor and change the colour of the car. Late 60s I think. But the green cars dominated F1 for a decade. Well quite.... who's Gretel Bergmann? I do know now, but only after clicking on the link (I hadn't seen the film). All the best Rob

Arguably 1972 was even tougher, 5 places from the British Final to Wembley, INCLUDING New Zealnders and Aussies. Yes, we did lose out sometimes due to not seeding our best men. PC was always a force around Wembley and he would have been a real contender in the '78 final. All the best Rob

Back onto topic, and I miss Smallmead. Yes, the place was a complete tip, but I have some good memories of meetings there, especially when stood on the back straight (before it was comdemned). In fact, I think had it remained open, it's the local track where I would have ended up the most, because the Oxford vs Reading rivalry was never quite as intense as with Swindon or Coventry. It's also such a shame that committed fans walk away from the sport, because their track has gone. I wish dear old Racer X was still on here. All the best Rob

Well no, but I'll give you my opinion, anway. And how about the procedure of directly seeding riders from the home nation to the final, which lasted throughout the sixties and seventies. Britain always qualifiers. But how about the Poles? They tended to seed their representatives. Are you saying the World Finals of 1970, 1973, 1976 and 1979 were not proper World Finals? All the best Rob
-
But the World Champion was directly seeded to the following year's final for a while in the 1950s and 60s. Nowt wrong with that, if you ask me. All the best Rob

The toilets at Dudley Wood were an "experience" Actually, I liked really liked Cradley Speedway - the place had a unique atmosphere. It felt a little like walking into the Lion's den, especially when things got heated, but it was still fantastic getting out of there (a) alive and (b ) with a win. All the best Rob

Actually, it made his story. It would have been much duller had he simply continued winning everything for a decade. His fight back in his 'second career' is what made his worthy of being called The Greatest. All the best Rob Indeed. And what about 1949? Tommy Price, Jack Parker and Louis Lawson created their own slice of history with an England 1-2-3. That's what's in the record books. Not that Vic Duggan, the best rider in the world in 1947-48-49 was missing though injury. All the best Rob
-
Yeah OK, Cradley as well. You can be in the PL as a feeder team for EL Oxford Not sure about Wimbledon, though. Even 150 million might not be enough to set up a stadium within London. All the best Rob

Indeed. In fact, the 1984 games is considered one of the most succesful ever, despite the absence of the USSR and rest of the communist bloc. Whoever wins the Grand Prix is World Champion. History remembers the winners. No one remember the losers who opted out or couldn't take part. Harsh but true. All the best Rob

Very sad. If I ever win 150 million on EuroMillions, sorting out Reading is No 2 on the list behind Oxford, and just ahead of Exeter and Newport. All the best Rob
