  1. Awful meeting. The blade used during the week had cut into the clay base. It wasn't a problem for those out front, but those behind were bombarded with huge lumps of clay, hence the riders being so strung out. More tractors than bikes, with a huge gap after Heat 4.
  2. Home track advantage? We're only ridden at home once. Looking forward to hopefully seeing Oxford winning, despite our complete lack home track advantage. See you tonight mate!
  3. That's a shame. With Tai there, I think they would have got maybe over 1000 people to stream it and it could have brought over 10 grand into the kitty. But I wasn't going to do a four-hour drive on a Monday night.

  5. To be fair to the 1984 Aces, they only dropped nine league points (three defeats and three draws) - but the problem was Ipswich only dropped eight! Belle Vue's away form was pretty exceptional - 9 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats in the BL. Plus a 100% home record. Most seasons that would have seen them walk the league. A season of two incredible sides!
  6. It's 2021. Speedway Forums are largely redundant. Plenty of interest on social media.
  7. No Jan O Pedersen during the 1980s or 1990s? World Champion in 1991, World No 2 in 1986 and World 3 in 1988. Rode in the World Pairs Final twice... and won it twice! Rode in the World Team Cup Final four times... and won it four times! Throw in a BLRC (1988) and various honours with Cradley Heath and surely he should be in there for both decades.
  8. No, he wasn't a number, he was a free man.
  9. Well, you'd gone as far back as a rider who rode in UK Speedway in 1952 (Briggo), so I just went back a tiny bit earlier But, yeah, going pre-war does open up a different kettle of fish, so maybe we should restrict it to post-war. I rescind Bluey Wilkinson and add Anders Michanek
  10. 1. No, they all deserve to be there. 2. Tricky question. I think I'd go for Bruce Penhall, although IMO the other outstanding candidates (in chronological order) are Bluey Wilkinson, Vic Duggan, Jack Young, Ronnie Moore, Peter Craven, Ole Olsen, Anders Michanek, Erik Gundersen, Greg Hancock and Jason Crump. As for Tai Woffinden and Bartosz Zmarzlik, I'll decide where they fit once they retire.

  16. Watching the stream tonight. Hoping Poole stream the second leg as well - with such a forward thinking promotion, I'll sure they will - money to be made from streaming the final.
  17. I didn't mention National League. I took it from the link you provided, which mentions a possible return in 2023. Hope all goes well!
  18. Steve, don't walk around that area of Glasgow after the meeting once it's dark. If there isn't a bus, call a taxi.
  19. Good news about a possible 2023 return, especially if Trevor Geer is involved, because he's had close ties with the Dugard family over the years.
  20. Well said. I thought this year was extremely encouraging. Like many others, I was worried by the effect that Covid could have on British speedway. But I've since some really encouraging crowds around this season - IMO the general trend has been up rather than down. And finishing the season in such an exceptional year on November 4th (looking at the forecast, both legs should be OK next week) is hardly the end of the world. I also find it strange that some are criticising the growing practice of calling off meetings earlier rather than later. It used to be extremely bad business to call off a meeting as the last possible minute, when everyone knew that the decision could have been made earlier in the day. While less susceptible to the weather, football has always chosen to postpone earlier rather than later when faced with forecasts of extreme weather. I don't think there's more postponements in speedway now, they're just done earlier and therefore save fans, riders and promotions wasted money. It's simply better business practice. Again, some just take it as another reason to moan, but the genuine supporters who go to meetings appreciate not having their time and money wasted in the way it once was.
  21. The encouraging increased crowds I saw at most the tracks that I attended this season was the biggest. Once restrictions were lifted, most tracks seemed to be doing very well... as people made the most of being able to get out and about once more.
