  1. No Jan O Pedersen during the 1980s or 1990s? World Champion in 1991, World No 2 in 1986 and World 3 in 1988. Rode in the World Pairs Final twice... and won it twice! Rode in the World Team Cup Final four times... and won it four times! Throw in a BLRC (1988) and various honours with Cradley Heath and surely he should be in there for both decades.
  2. No, he wasn't a number, he was a free man.
  3. Well, you'd gone as far back as a rider who rode in UK Speedway in 1952 (Briggo), so I just went back a tiny bit earlier But, yeah, going pre-war does open up a different kettle of fish, so maybe we should restrict it to post-war. I rescind Bluey Wilkinson and add Anders Michanek
  4. 1. No, they all deserve to be there. 2. Tricky question. I think I'd go for Bruce Penhall, although IMO the other outstanding candidates (in chronological order) are Bluey Wilkinson, Vic Duggan, Jack Young, Ronnie Moore, Peter Craven, Ole Olsen, Anders Michanek, Erik Gundersen, Greg Hancock and Jason Crump. As for Tai Woffinden and Bartosz Zmarzlik, I'll decide where they fit once they retire.

  10. Watching the stream tonight. Hoping Poole stream the second leg as well - with such a forward thinking promotion, I'll sure they will - money to be made from streaming the final.
  11. I didn't mention National League. I took it from the link you provided, which mentions a possible return in 2023. Hope all goes well!
  12. Steve, don't walk around that area of Glasgow after the meeting once it's dark. If there isn't a bus, call a taxi.
  13. Good news about a possible 2023 return, especially if Trevor Geer is involved, because he's had close ties with the Dugard family over the years.
  14. Well said. I thought this year was extremely encouraging. Like many others, I was worried by the effect that Covid could have on British speedway. But I've since some really encouraging crowds around this season - IMO the general trend has been up rather than down. And finishing the season in such an exceptional year on November 4th (looking at the forecast, both legs should be OK next week) is hardly the end of the world. I also find it strange that some are criticising the growing practice of calling off meetings earlier rather than later. It used to be extremely bad business to call off a meeting as the last possible minute, when everyone knew that the decision could have been made earlier in the day. While less susceptible to the weather, football has always chosen to postpone earlier rather than later when faced with forecasts of extreme weather. I don't think there's more postponements in speedway now, they're just done earlier and therefore save fans, riders and promotions wasted money. It's simply better business practice. Again, some just take it as another reason to moan, but the genuine supporters who go to meetings appreciate not having their time and money wasted in the way it once was.
  15. The encouraging increased crowds I saw at most the tracks that I attended this season was the biggest. Once restrictions were lifted, most tracks seemed to be doing very well... as people made the most of being able to get out and about once more.
  16. Do you ever do anything but moan? Feel sorry for the Kent fans, who bear the brunt of most of your negativity. Many sports have run at irregular times over the last 18 months. Just take a look at when the 2019-2020 football season was eventually completed. I don't think the speedway season having to be extended by just a few days is going to be the end of the world.
  17. Plenty of instances of league and cup deciding meetings being held in November, although less common in recent times. Was a regular occurrence in the 1980s, when they were around double the amount of meetings to fit in as they are now, and quite often teams could not fit in everything by the end of October.
  18. One of the worst away teams I saw at Scunthorpe this year. Gave in without a fight. The likes of Berwick, Birmingham, Redcar, Glasgow and Eastbourne all put up a much better fight. Edinburgh were only better than Kent and Newcastle. The cup is already decided. Better to get in the play-off final while the weather looks alright.
  19. Forecast for Poole looks okay for Wednesday... but not currently okay for Friday. It would make a great deal of sense to switch over the two meetings at Poole, as the second leg of the cup is a "dead rubber" (Pirates can't lose from a 5-point advantage, given Edinburgh are a poor away team) and if that got rained off on Friday, it wouldn't be as potentially problematic, given the poor weather scheduled also for next Saturday and Sunday. Get the play-off final in Wednesday while it's possible.
  20. Thanks for explaining. And I agree. It was the crash in Heat 13 which was the cause of the early finish.
  21. Watched the stream last night. The stream was very good (although I knew that, already had two from Glasgow this year), while some good racing on display. A real pity about the big crash in Heat 13 and hope the shoulder injuries aren't too bad. Could someone in attendance confirm why there was such a long gap between Heat 8 and Heat 9? It seemed strange to have such a long gap at this point, with the rain on its way. Although I think by the time they'd have sorted out the injury riders from Heat 13, there wouldn't have been a chance to hold the final three races before the rain, even without the extended gap between 8 and 9.
