Panthers vs aces 15/09/22
lucifer sam replied to Gasser90's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Went as a neutral last night. Decent meeting. Not an awful lot of passing, but close racing. Large bias towards those off gates 1 and 3. Heat 10 was a complete cracker of a race. When Hans Andersen lifted on the second bend of the last lap with the other three riders so close, I could see it ending in a pile up, and it was four abreast heading into the third turn, just in front of us, but everyone stayed on. Great stuff from Bomber to fend off both Aces earlier in the race. Basso passed Fricke on one wheel in Heat 5 after he lifted out of the second bend. Fricke's body language was "f*ck that, I've got a GP in two days time" because he shut off and can't blame him at all for that. Reckon Nicholls should have gone down in Heat 14 after the contact - he would have got Blodorn excluded. Belle Vue deserved the win, with good ride by Brennan in Heat 15 to not only get past King, but create the gap for Zagar as well. Jordan Jenkins very unlucky to be on the losing side, after great ride in Heat 8 to fend off both Aces, after his team-mate Andersen pushed past him and left him to it! Great news that Peterborough are back in 2023. -
I would say rename the final from the Jubilee League to the Queen Elizabeth Trophy. It was named after her all along, really, but Jubilee isn't quite the appropriate name any longer.

Period of mourning. No sport activities.
lucifer sam replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Agreed. It does very much depend on the sporting events in question and how high profile they are. The bigger the event, the less likely it is to take place. For speedway, this weekend and the day of the funeral seems about right. -
Edinburgh - new home required….
lucifer sam replied to JanAndersen's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
What a kick in the doo-dahs. Good luck Edinburgh. Hope you can find a solution for 2023. -
Unless the rain dictates otherwise, why should Poole call the meeting off? Poole are a highly professional outfit. There's no way they'd go through a season not replacing a rider out since April (Edward Kennett). That Plymouth did not so has come back to bite them on the bum. Why is it Poole's fault that Plymouth have not replaced injured and suspended riders? The recent injuries are hard luck, but Kennett's been out since April and Barker since July. As for the demise of Plymouth Speedway, I doubt if an away loss on a night when only a handful of their diehards are present is going to make much difference. The call off of the home meeting against Glasgow - complete with the whole farcical situation of setting their own track on fire to the degree where the fire service was called - was far more damaging. Heaven knows what the non die-hards in the stadium were thinking that night. I hope that Plymouth are back next season.

Rain the day before really shouldn't make a difference. It's only rain in the few hours before the meeting that counts. By this morning, the rain could have been forecasted to finish at lunchtime. By all means, call the meeting off at 9am this morning if the forecast hasn't changed. Calling it off the day before is ridiculous, though.
-
Thunderstorms are the hardest type of weather to predict because they are so changeable. This morning, the forecast could have been totally different. It wasn't, but that's missing the point. Had the forecast changed this morning, Plymouth would have been left with massive egg on their face.. yet again. Why call off a meeting the day before - it doesn't make sense. No wonder Plymouth were the only team in the Championship not to finish their home fixtures by the play-off deadline despite the driest summer for nearly 30 years.
-
While I don't think the meeting could have gone ahead tonight, why didn't Plymouth wait until this morning to make a decision? The forecast can change very quickly from day-to-day, especially when it's for storms. Early call-offs are sensible, but this one was being ridiculous, and just makes it look like Plymouth wanted the second leg at home. Plymouth have become a figure of fun this season: there's the daft situation with Eddie Kennett, setting fire to their own track, and now calling off meeting a whole day in advance. It's hard to take Plymouth Speedway very seriously.

They're not on the same average. Jake is 6.593, Tero is 6.588. It worked in our favour at the same of the month - this time it doesn't.

Lots of negativity on this thread which isn't matched by the atmosphere and support at Oxford this year. Come along to Oxford for a night of speedway and enjoy the experience that the fans are enjoying this season!

No excuse. No dust at Oxford at Tuesday - which was actually held ON the hottest day of the year, not the day after - until around Heat 13. -
Oxford Cheetah Cubs 2022
lucifer sam replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in National League Speedway
Second Chargers crowd was in half term week and was nearer 1000 than 500. In any case, it was several hundred higher than the first Chargers meeting and the Oxford promotion were extremely pleased by the size of the crowd. -
3.7.2022 - Scorpions v Edinburgh plus BYC
lucifer sam replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Where did you get that from? The BYC wasn't covered, since the Scunny stream is done by a young and enthusiastic group of lads, some of which had college, etc, to go to today and it takes significant time for them to pack up the gear. -

Aaron Summers cannot guest for Jordan Palin - it doesn't fit. If Summers guests for Jake, then R/R would have been used for Jordan, and only Wright, Kennedy and Coles would be able to take the rides. -

That's not too unreasonable. At Oxford, it's free parking and a free shuttle bus. -

If Carlsberg did speedway meetings... Epic night of racing last night! What a meeting! Glasgow played their full part in proceedings, but so glad Oxford managed to win it at the end!
