Hi Al, yes 18.10 needs re-wording and also perhaps 19.9.3. There's another thing that the statement doesn't make clear (it also needs an amendment, because Friday to Sunday is not 72 hours!). Was the BSPA member actually correct in telling Edinburgh that the NL league meeting took priority, even if the PL fixture was re-arranged? 19.9.3 suggests otherwise. Actually what it says on the BSPA website is: Campbell said: “The BSPA issue National League green sheets which clearly indicate Mitchell was eligible. That’s what we all work from.” So Edinburgh were booking Davey as a NL guest. Which is an ignorance-is-bliss approach, rather than spending two minutes on the BSPA website... as I did, and found a past 4.23 PL average for Mitchell Davey during the course of 2009. And last year, Alex Davies was issued the wrong GSA, just before Scunthorpe went to Edinburgh. Did the Monarchs say "we all work from the green sheets" or come the night, did Scunthorpe have to change around their side, moving up Alex Davies from reserve to up in the team? The error was pointed out prior to the meeting (although how on earth the usually astute Monarchs management thought Mitchell Davey could be eligible is beyond me) , with Scunthorpe following procedures, so therefore the Monarchs should have reverted to using e.g. Layne Cupitt who was there for the second half. But Bewley should have been at Scunthorpe: 19.9.3 Where a rider is additionally declared in a PL and/or EL Team, the EL and/or PL Team shall have priority, except that a rider nominated for the NLRC must appear in the NLRC. So NL guest only according to 18.10 e). And Davey isn't eligible for that - his 2009 Glasgow figures are proof of that. Or did the NLRC take place at Buxton on Sunday without anyone noticing? Nah, just curious as to what happened. I've now read a version of events on the Kent website and I can see why you might think I was on the wind up, although ultimately it is the referee and home promotion who dictate the pace of the meeting, although the away team can certainly put in a spanner in the works! It seems to me a real shame that Kent didn't get on with this one a bit quicker - it's a shame when a clash between two of the league's big guns is decided by curfew. Cyclone, Oh dear, I didn't think this needed explaining twice, but here goes: 18.10 e) refers to an average never going above 4.00. So the Team Declaration is very relevant, because it shows Davey on 4.23 during the year. Yes, his final figure slipped to 3.77 in his final 2009 Green Sheet average, but the key thing was that his GSA was 4.23 earlier in the season. He did have a GSA more than 4.00 during the season. Understand now? Superb stuff, although for me the race of the season is still Heat 15 against Glasgow, with Ryan going from 4th to 2nd to 4th to 3rd (I think!!) All the best Rob

Al, mistakes on the Green Sheet averages can be corrected. Remember the beginning of last year, when Alex Davies was given a very strange average and was all to set to line up at reserve for Scorpions at Edinburgh, only for Monarchs to put out the error prior to the meeting, prompting a late minute switch of the Scunny line-up? Davey clearly cannot be used as a NL guest. I can't believe that the ever-shrewd Monarchs' management didn't realise that. Oh, and stop all this stuff about NL taking priority. That simply doesn't happen. There may be a gentleman's agreement between Edinburgh and Belle Vue regarding Bewley, but stop pretending that it entitles you to anything but a NL guest. Al, if one were cynical, one might suggest that Edinburgh were well aware of the obvious error in the NL Green Sheets regarding Davey, and announced his presence as late as possible (late yesterday morning), to try to stop anybody spotting it in time. Unfortunately for them, Scunny did, and placed a protest in time. How on earth did Edinburgh seriously think they could use a rider who came in on a 5.00 assessed PL average as a NL guest? HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions face a tough challenge with the visit of reigning Premier League champions Edinburgh Monarchs to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (6.30pm) in what promises to be an absolute belter of a match. The Scorpions are currently in a confident mood, having won three of their last four PL matches, including a fantastic 46-44 away win at Peterborough on Tuesday, which was inspired by a brilliant 15 paid 16 tally from reserve Michael Palm Toft.
