  1. Rob G pays for an additional forecast which is usually very accurate. A couple of weeks ago it's why he pressed ahead with Scunny v Edinburgh despite the BBC and Met forecasts suggesting it had little chance. As usual, his pay-forecast was the accurate one and the meeting took place, while both Sheffield and Buxton were called off. All the best Rob
  2. Are you having a laugh? So you think it's better to call the meeting off at 7.30pm rather than 12.30pm? All the best Rob
  3. Coz I hadn't written it at that point Here goes: PLEASE NOTE that tonight’s meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway between the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions and the Peterborough Panthers has been postponed. The forecast is very poor for this evening. While we thank fans for their patience last Sunday, we didn’t want to put them through that experience twice within a week. Sunday’s late heavy hailstorm was unexpected (certainly to that extent) – but tonight’s rain is predicted. We hope everyone appreciates the early call-off. We will advise a re-staging date in due course.
  4. Steve, I hope the piece served as a fitting tribute to Lee Dunton. And yes, I'd be delighted to interview both Kai Niemi and Mike Sampson. Mike is a tricky man to track down, so if anyone has contact details, please PM me, or contact Tony Mac at Retro Speedway. All the best Rob
  5. How can it be 52-40? There's only 90 points available. All the best Rob
  6. That'd do All the best Rob PS No sign of a preview on the Peterborough website. But Panthers fans, you're definitely at Scunny tonight.
  7. FRIDAY NIGHT ACTION AT THE EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions stage possibly their last home meeting of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm), when they host Peterborough Panthers in Knockout Cup quarter-final action. Scorpions need to overturn an 18-point-deficit from the first leg at the East Of England Showground, to progress to the semi-finals and prolong their season. If Scorpions qualify, they will face either Glasgow or Newcastle in the next round, on a yet-to-be-determined date. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “The odds are not stacked in our favour, with Peterborough tracking a full-strength team. “But we’ll go out there and see what we can do to extend our season.” Much is still up in the air regarding the 2018 season, including Scorpions’ regular race-night. Godfrey adds: “This meeting is a chance for supporters to show up in bumper numbers and prove to me that we should move back to a Friday evening. “I’m sure there will be some terrific racing, especially with former British Grand Prix Champion Chris Harris in the Peterborough line-up. “I can’t wait to see Bomber and Josh Auty going at it hammer-and-tong around the Eddie Wright Raceway.” Admission prices for Friday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Friday: Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Lewis Kerr, 2. Jake Allen, 3. Michael Palm Toft, 4. Ryan Douglas, 5. Josh Auty (captain), 6. Tero Aarnio, 7. Josh Bailey. Peterborough Panthers: 1. Jack Holder, 2. Bradley Wilson-Dean, 3. Paul Starke, 4. Ulrich Ostergaard, 5. Chris Harris, 6. Simon Lambert, 7. Tom Bacon.
  8. As already pointed out, a different day. On Sunday, the track was completely raceable - that was proven by riders doing just that. It rained on Sunday for 10 minutes, if that long. The track was packed hard. Nearly all the water was on the surface. All the best Rob
  9. It happened a day after the Scunthorpe v Edinburgh meeting. Thank goodness it did. With Palm Toft as captain yesterday rather than Josh, do you think we'd have seen any racing? All the best Rob
  10. The track was still hard underneath, once the surface water was cleared. And the times were, in general, quicker than heats 12 to 15 of Scunny v Edinburgh the week before. All the best Rob
  11. I did wonder how many threads we needed for the same meeting. All the best Rob
  12. Yes, Phil Griffin deserves the plaudits for last night. He wouldn’t be bullied. Scorpions’ captain Josh Auty deserves credit as well for his part in making sure we saw some racing. Brilliant work by the track staff, management and even one or two fans in helping clear the water. It became clear that the community spirit is alive and strong in Scunthorpe Speedway. Good riddance to 2017 (only two meetings to go)… and roll on 2018! All the best Rob
  13. No, we ended up with no fixture that day, after Peterborough turned down the fixture. All the best Rob
  14. No it wasn't. How about the blank Sunday that Scunny wanted to fill, and Peterborough turned down? All the best Rob
  15. The solution is simple: Workington should sack him. The junior guest replacements for him won't score much, but at least they're putting in some effort. All the best Rob
  16. Reading v Oxford, when Oxford used an illegal supplementary reserve in Heat 1. Left the stadium thinking Oxford had won 46-44 (and also wondering if the rules regarding supplementary reserves had changed for a second time that season); the following day, the SCB considered the matter and changed the score to 45-45. I didn't blame Mr Sugar for his objection - rather our team manager for being incompetent. The same should happen with Thursday's meeting - in fact, it should have been amended on Friday. All the best Rob
  17. It's also the team manager's job. Rosco either knew what he was doing (which makes him a cheat) or didn't (which makes him incompetent). Take your pick. All the best Rob
  18. Not only that, but right hand bottom corner confirms that Jack Smith was medically signed out of meeting. Nothing about Musielak... Quite clearly the rules have been broken here, and the referee allowed it to happen. All the best Rob
  19. Not really the same. That was to do with the hierarchical order of the team, and was agreed (wrongly) before the meeting. Nothing was agreed before the meeting last night, as to what replacement was allowed for an excluded rider in Heat 12! BWD was ineligible for that race. That's the "statement of fact" in this case. All the best Rob
  20. Poor analogy. This wasn't a refereeing decision on who was excluded from a race. It was a rider taking an ineligible ride. If a football club fields an ineligible player, then they have points deducted (Oxford United fell foul of this a few years ago). All the best Rob
  21. Grachan, cheers mate. Seriously though, if a rider has taken an illegal ride, surely it has to be pointed out. All the best Rob
  22. It certainly should be. I made sure the BV management were aware of the infringement before the meeting was over, during the ridiculous lenghty 'grading break' between Heat 13 and 14. That's, of course, if he hadn't already been spotted down the pits. As already pointed out, it's a matter of fact that BWD was not allowed to replace Musielak. All the best Rob
  23. How can a rider who has been officially signed out of the meeting be excluded under the two minute allowance? He must have still been in the meeting, and therefore the reserve replacement in Heat 12 was illegal. All the best Rob
  24. I was there on the night and well aware that the rules had been broken. During the ludicrous 'grading break' between Heat 13 and Heat 14, took a little wander in the direction of the pits and made sure that the BV management knew of the infringement. All the best Rob
