  1. No, they won't be: 19.9.3 Where a rider is additionally declared in a SGB Premiership or Championship League team, the SGB Premiership or Championship League Team shall have priority, except that a rider nominated for the NDLRC must appear in the NDLRC. Unless it's the NDLRC at the NSS on Friday, then they ride for Glasgow on Friday. All the best Rob
  2. Yes, again it's the tip of the iceberg. It needs to be strangled at birth, before it becomes a regular thing. As for the doubling-up monster, we are stuck with it, although it could be reigned in and then restricted to riders with an ACU license only. All the best Rob
  3. You didn't look very hard. And why press the send button twice - just wait a few seconds for it to add! I assume you'll take just another few seconds to delete the duplicated threads? All the best Rob
  4. Yeah, it's got ridiculous. As much as I'd like them to scrap doubling up completely, I think it needs to be gradually phased out. The temporary solution is Monday and Thursday for the top league, and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for our league. And no-one riding in our league is allowed to sign for a Polish side - that needs to be in the contract. Plus you have to be out injured for a week. You can't ride one night, be injured the next, and miraculously recover the night after. All the best Rob
  5. So Peterborough have called off a meeting in advance, partially due to the forecast? No complaints from me, but there's a certain irony, given the comments of one or two of Panthers' fans elsewhere. The early call-off is just as well today. With both teams well below strength, due to Polish commitments of Jack Holder and Erik Riss, it would have been something of a farce. All the best Rob
  6. Crowds for regular meetings would be the same whether you have play-offs or not. Crowds took a massive dip during the 1990s, before play-offs were introduced. The play-offs at the end of the season simply mean the teams get a chance of a bumper crowd. Take the away the play-offs and that opportunity is lost. All the best Rob
  7. Congratulations Sheffield, deserving league champions. All the best Rob
  8. So why hasn't Mitchell Davey, who completed his meeting on Saturday, been given a similar ban? All the best Rob
  9. You always get a few dinosaurs, whatever the sport. Play-offs pack in the crowds and therefore must stay. It makes no economic sense to scrap the few speedway meetings that, probably, actually do make money. All the best Rob
  10. I would say "Be careful you don't catch Mad Cow Disease", but who would spot the difference? Be noisy on the back straight tonight! All the best Rob
  11. How does giving your entire team food poisoning help you win? All the best Rob
  12. Track looks in perfect nick: https://twitter.com/SpeedwayScunny/status/913792716902936577 All the best Rob
  13. You've missed the point. I'm well aware that Dan Bewley couldn't ride for Edinburgh AND Belle Vue. However, he could have picked Edinburgh ABOVE Belle Vue. The asset system may still exist, but riders end up riding where they want - that's been the case ever since Coventry wanted to stop their assets Greg Hancock and Billy Hamill riding for Oxford in 2005 and couldn't. If Dan Bewley really wanted to ride for Edinburgh above anyone else, it's where he would have ended up this season. So Blobby's point was irrelevant. The lad's is in Belle Vue, not anywhere else. And I hope he fulfils his early potential - he's one of the most exciting British youngsters I've seen for a long time. All the best Rob
  14. Al, I have a great amount of respect for yourself, but this is forum open for all. It's rather heavy-handed to refer to posts from others as "pathetic" when they are following the set rules of the forum. Blobby's second point was clearly irrelevant (since Bewley could have picked Edinburgh above Belle Vue) so therefore I didn't include it. Let's face it, Bewley isn't that interested in Edinburgh OR Glasgow. His heart is with Belle Vue. Good luck to him, because he's a real talent and I hope he goes a long way. All the best Rob
  15. Is the Edinburgh v Newcastle (was it those two teams?) play-off meeting still the only occasion that a tie that gone to Golden Heats? All the best Rob
  16. The fact that you brought up Oxford at all shows you up for what you are. Were Oxford part of the discussion? No. If you were trying to anger me, you've failed. You're simply made me sorry for the decent Edinburgh fans. The ones who used to be forum regulars and then got fed up with the likes of yourself. 17. Oh dear... no real speedway fan would gloat at the closure of another track. I remember the days when we had some cracking Edinburgh posters on here. No wonder they disappeared from the forum - they must be ashamed of you. All the best Rob
  18. You've missed the possibility of a guest from the Premiership on a converted average. All the best Rob
  19. Sheffield 53 Ipswich 37. Ippo must be left kicking themselves for getting the lead down from 14 to 8, but then letting it slip again. All the best Rob
  20. Where I have presented myself as an impartial observer? When it comes to Glasgow v Edinburgh matters, I'll always back the Tigers. All the best Rob
  21. How come Mitchell Davey hasn't got a ban? All the best Rob
  22. STRONG START KEY FOR SCORPIONS HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions’ team manager Dave Peet insists a strong start for his side is important if there are to overturn an 18-point-deficit against Peterborough Panthers in their vital Knockout Cup tie at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm). Scorpions lost 36-54 at the East Of England Showground in the first leg. If they win on aggregate, they will progress to face either Glasgow or Newcastle in the semi-finals. If not, their season will come to an end with the clash against the Panthers. It’s the third attempt to stage the meeting. It was originally abandoned in June, with Scorpions leading 19-11, and was also washed out last week. Peet said: “Our performance in a league match at Peterborough on Tuesday gave us a bit of a boost. We showed that we could stay with them for almost the whole match around their own track. “I feel that, on Friday, if we attack them from the off, then we’ve got a chance of getting back those 18 points. “A good start is the key. If we can claw back some points, we can put the Peterborough lads under a little bit of pressure. “Way back in June, when we first attempted to hold this meeting, we were 19-11 ahead after five races, when the heavens opened. If we start like that again, it would be game on. “On paper, you’d say Peterborough would be favourites to progress on aggregate. But it’s what happens out on the track which is important.” Tero Aarnio is unavailable on Friday, since he is riding in his re-staged national championships back in his native Finland. He will be replaced by Newcastle’s Ashley Morris, who put in plenty of effort in a brief spell with Scorpions early in 2016. Scorpions’ management are considering a move back to Friday nights in 2018, and a good crowd this Friday could help sway any decision. Peterborough have an attractive side, led by former three-time British Champion Chris Harris. Promoter Rob Godfrey says: “This meeting is a golden chance for the fans to show up in bumper numbers and prove to me that we should move back to a Friday evening. “It’s a mouth-watering meeting. Peterborough got one of the most entertaining riders in British Speedway in former Grand Prix star Chris ‘Bomber’ Harris, we’ve got one of the most entertaining riders in British Speedway in Josh Auty, and the racing at the Eddie Wright Raceway on a Friday night is always top class. “If it does prove to be our last meeting this season, then hopefully we’ll see a fighting performance from the Scorpions and some thrilling racing.” Admission prices for Friday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Friday: Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Lewis Kerr, 2. Jake Allen, 3. Michael Palm Toft, 4. Ryan Douglas, 5. Josh Auty (captain), 6. Ashley Morris (guest), 7. Josh Bailey. Peterborough Panthers: 1. Richie Worrall (guest), 2. Bradley Wilson-Dean, 3. Paul Starke, 4. Ulrich Ostergaard, 5. Chris Harris, 6. Simon Lambert, 7. Tom Bacon.
