  1. I believe the official attendance for Wembley in 1981 was 71,000. That's still a massively impressive figure, though.
  2. No delay. The club were always going to take their time in announcing the seventh rider: http://scunthorpescorpions.co/?p=8028
  3. There's still some who is struggling to see that for some reason. Bees' return to Brandon IS NOT HELPED AT ALL by them running at Leicester - quite the opposite. I won't go to Leicester for a Coventry fixture. I might go to an away fixture somewhere, so that I can have a good shout in the direction of that ally of Brandon Estates, Mick Horton
  4. If all goes to plan, No 7 will be revealed during 'An Evening With The 2018 Scorpions' on Friday night: http://scunthorpescorpions.co/?p=8192
  5. 1. Woffinden 2. Doyle 3. Dudek 4. Zmarzlik 5. Sayfutdinov 6. Lindgren 7. Janowski 8. Zagar 9. Vaculik 10. Holder 11. Hancock 12. Pedersen 13. Pawlicki 14. Laguta 15. Cook (hope he proves me wrong, though)
  6. That's a big shame. Will the live updates from meetings continue? There were always very thorough on there.
  7. It was commonplace at the time. Don't forget the 1974 World Final, where Olsen took a heavy fall and the race continued with him lying injured on the track.
  8. It exists. Peter Duncan confirmed as much when I spoke to him. He put together the two-minute clip for his YouTube channel. He's very fond of King Cinder. It was a rare chance for him to appear on-screen with Lesley Manville, his girlfriend from that period. The two are still good friends to this day. King Cinder is there, simply awaiting for the BBC to release it. Whether they ever will is a different matter, although Peter Duncan was hopeful that the digital revolution will eventually result in somewhere where you can download old TV series.
  9. Good day yesterday – excellent turn-out and so many familiar faces. One thing, though. What’s gone wrong with speedway, when more people will turn up for a celebration of speedway’s past, than an actual speedway meeting with the sport’s current stars? Yesterday’s attendance will put most meetings this year to shame.
  10. Cheers Cyclone - I missed this on the Edinburgh thread. Good luck Monarchs!
  11. These procedures were clarified and implemented forcibly in recent years when British Speedway ran a serious risk of losing the use of all visa riders. There's all the clarity that you need.
  12. It's obvious, but it still won't stop BWitcher from arguing that black is white.
  13. Yes they have. Secondly, the application by Edinburgh to use American rider Luke Becker has been rejected. This is based on criteria set down by UKVI and not the British Speedway Promoters’ Association and, as such, the management committee had little choice but to follow the correct procedure. This also applies to Australian Ryan Douglas who is keen to race in the UK and clubs have registered their interest in signing him – but, like Becker, he doesn’t qualify for a visa. These procedures were clarified and implemented forcibly in recent years when British Speedway ran a serious risk of losing the use of all visa riders.
  14. I think it's once bitten, twice shy after what happened to Ty Proctor. It's clear that unless a rider fully fulfils the UKVI criteria, there's always a chance that UKVI will change their minds later on.
  15. He's not eligible. That's obvious. Appendix 1 – Eligibility for endorsement FIM Speedway Grand Prix – All series competitors excluding reserves and wildcards Argentinian International Championships – Winner Australian Individual Championships – Top 4 New South Wales Championships – Top 4 Queensland Championships – Top 4 South Australia Championships – Top 4 Victoria State Championships – Top 4 Western Australia Championships – Top 4 Canadian Individual Championships – Winner New Zealand Individual Championships – Winner Russian Individual Championships – Top 4 South African National Championships – Winner Ukrainian Individual Championships – Winner United States Individual AMA Championships – Top 4 Read the bottom one, Blobby. Fifth is not in the top 4. Not when I went to school!
  16. UKVI's own rules are crystal clear. Becker had to finish in the top four of the US Nationals. He finished fifth. Tough luck on the lad, but he's not eligible for a visa. What do you want to do? Bring him over, then like Ty Proctor, suddenly find out he's got to leave the country in the next 24 hours, when UKVI remember their own rules? Just sign an eligible rider. They are plenty about. Max Clegg for starters.
  17. Can't you read the BSPA website, Blobby? Secondly, the application by Edinburgh to use American rider Luke Becker has been rejected. This is based on criteria set down by UKVI and not the British Speedway Promoters’ Association and, as such, the management committee had little choice but to follow the correct procedure. This also applies to Australian Ryan Douglas who is keen to race in the UK and clubs have registered their interest in signing him – but, like Becker, he doesn’t qualify for a visa. These procedures were clarified and implemented forcibly in recent years when British Speedway ran a serious risk of losing the use of all visa riders. I think that's pretty clear. There's a procedure to be followed. Abuse it, and all visa riders could be in trouble.
  18. Does the video of the meeting really matter? What is far more important is the experience of those on the night. And Wembley '81 was a magical meeting. The atmospheric was electric, especially during the Penhall/Olsen and Penhall/Knudsen duels. I would suggest anyone who doesn't like this meeting wasn't actually there!
  19. The serious point is that I've only seen negative feedback to this announcement. An alternating World Cup and World Pairs would have worked. But this bizarre new idea is unlikely to succeed. How many years until normality is restored and dear old Armando (great character, but a little out of depth in his current role) is put out to pasture? All the best Rob
  20. Yeah, ref got it wrong. Made a big difference. Ipswich would have lost by 14 points on aggregate instead of 18 points. All the best Rob
  21. So they've got rid of the World Cup and it's going to be replaced by a pairs competition, where the pairs are not even from the same country? What a dreadful, awful idea. All the best Rob
  22. Exciting team announcement today at 1pm. All the best Rob
