There's a not huge queue of promoters waiting to come into speedway. Are you suggesting a track should shut down the moment the promoter reaches a nominal age (e.g. 65)? All the best Rob -

While everyone is focusing on the negative (and yes it was frustrating to be kept waiting for 45 minutes), fair play to the riders last night. They did their absolute best to get through proceedings in time, despite the heat. I think they deserve a huge slap on the back. All the best Rob -

Well-earned point by Scorps in absence of Birks - had Ash been riding, it would have been an away win. Although I guess Ippo also had their problems. Nicolai Klindt already looking a good signing. All the best Rob -
The Terminator Joins Scunthorpe
lucifer sam replied to T.N.T.'s topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The move was already approved - it just takes three days until the new 1-7 takes effect, which is why Tofty could ride at Peterborough in the meantime. Mind you, as you can't even tell riders of a different nationality apart, I can see why you might have some problems understanding this. Backless, have you never filmed Nicolai Klindt at Berwick or Sheffield? All the best Rob Peasley -
KLINDT TO MAKE SCORPIONS DEBUT HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions bring in new signing Nicolai Klindt into their line-up this week as the Scorpions are involved in two vital Premier League fixtures. Danish international Klindt makes his debut at Ipswich on Thursday evening, and then makes his first home appearance in Scorpions’ colours on Friday (7.30pm), as Scunthorpe entertain the Redcar Bears at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Klindt was, until recently, the track record holder at Ipswich’s Foxhall Heath circuit. However, it appears that skipper Ashley Birks is set to miss the two meetings through injury, after fracturing his scaphoid in a guest appearance at Leicester last Saturday. Promoter Rob Godfrey says: “We’re delighted to welcome in Nicolai Klindt. He adds real strength to our line-up; we have now a very powerful top five. “I think Nicolai will see this as an opportunity to get himself going again and take it as a stepping stone to get back into the Elite League. “I’m gutted that Ash got hurt the other day. I felt we had a good chance to get a win at Foxhall Heath with a full team, because we ride well there. We’ll still go there looking for points. “Ash is 99.99% sure to be out of this week’s meetings. I’ll never say 100% with him, because he’s the sort of guy who will turn up on Thursday wanting to ride. “He is talking about coming back as soon as possible. Fortunately he’s hurt his throttle hand, not his clutch hand. It’s still going to be painful when he rides, but it won’t be as bad. “It’s a blow being without Ash because he’s been riding as our second heat-leader this season, but he’s only fifth in our rolling averages, so rider replacement is a poor replacement for him.” Friday’s visit of the Redcar Bears sees the Scorpions out to avenge a 41-49 defeat to the Bears at the Eddie Wright Raceway earlier in the season. “Everything went wrong that night”, recalls Godfrey. “Lewis Blackbird has been superb for us since we brought him in, in May, but he had a rare off-night the last time Redcar were here, and it left us exposed at reserve. “Lewis was a complete star for the Scorpions last Friday – he was brilliant. It may have been Josh Auty who passed Tyson Nelson on the line in Heat 15 after a miracle ride, but without Lewis we’d have never got as far as that final heat. “We’re also taking measures to help get Ryan Douglas going. We’re helping him to sort out his machinery. Ryan has the potential, and we want to help him to unlock the key. “We do owe Redcar one, because they put us out of the cup. “Nicolai Klindt has ridden at the Eddie Wright Raceway a couple of times before, in the Kenny Smith Memorial meeting and also in a practice session. It may take him a couple of rides to get going on Friday. I don’t think it will take him long, because he is a quality rider.” Redcar themselves have suffered a couple of injuries. Matej Kus is a doubtful starter on Friday, while Steve Worrall has been signed as a temporary replacement for Max Dilger. Meanwhile, the Scorpions’ target remains a place in the play-offs. Godfrey says: “Looking at the league table, we’re not actually that far behind sixth spot. “The majority of our remaining meetings are away, but that means nothing this season – everyone is losing at home. You can actually score more points in away matches. A couple of big away wins, which are worth four league points, would change our situation very quickly. “Our aim is definitely that sixth place, to get into the play-offs.” Admission Prices for Friday: Adult: £14.00 Student/OAP: £12.00 Child (10 - 16): £5.00 Child (0 - 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £33 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-16) Match Programme: £1.00 Teams for Friday (English unless stated): Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. If it's tonight, then you can have Ben Barker All the best Rob -
Great Britain stand a great chance of going through to the final, but only with the right team. The opposition on Thursday is Latvia, one-man US and a slightly fragile Australia. We have to put out our strongest team, and I think that is: Tai Woffinden Chris Harris Ben Barker Danny King That team would see off the Aussies. This isn't the time for putting out riders to "gain experience". It's the time to get through to the final and finish 3rd, our best result since our last 3rd place in 2006. All the best Rob

Although the meeting did drag on forever and the constant re-starts were part of that, I think Babs is getting a lot of undue stick over the Bellego/Tungate incident. Cook came fast under Bellego, but it looked clean to me. It was Bellego who lost control (possibly distracted by Cook passing him where he hadn't expected), ploughing into the back of Tungate. Therefore, the correct rider was excluded. All the best Rob

Yes, out of the gate, it was Nelson, Mellgren, Birks and Auty. Birks past Mellgren; Auty followed. Birks allowed Auty into 2nd place with around a lap to do, then Auty went for the big one on the final lap, to swoop inside Nelson, with around half a wheel in it at the chequered flag. All the best Rob

Blame Uncle Len - it was his brainchild. I think Rob Godfrey would quite like to get rid of the tactical ride. Absolutely amazing conclusion to the meeting last night - racing like that is what speedway is all about. Forget all those Polish tracks - the best racetrack in the world is in Scunthorpe. SCORPIONS AIMING FOR ALL THREE POINTS AGAINST ROCKETS HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions entertain basement Premier League club Rye House at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (7.30pm) with one mission – to take all three league points from the encounter. Rye House, the Premier League Champions from 2005 & 2007, are suffering an injury-hit campaign and are currently without No 1 Oliver Allen and rising star Jason Garrity. On Friday, Somerset’s Josh Grajczonek will guest in place of Allen, while Swede Pontus Aspgren is a temporary replacement for Garrity. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Rye House are suffering a terrible season. They’ve had all sorts of injury problems. We’ve got to capitalise on that and make sure we score all three points on Friday night. “However, we won’t be underestimating the Rockets. Josh Grajczonek is a quality guest – we know how well he rode around here last time he was here with Somerset. “We used Jason Bunyan several times as a guest in 2012, and we know he can also be a handful around the Eddie Wright Raceway. Add in Tyson Nelson, and also Simon Lambert at reserve, who rode for the Scorpions for a couple of seasons, and Rye House do have several riders who know the best way around here. “But if we ride to our capabilities, I believe we’re fully capable of taking the three league points. And that’s what we really need – all three league points.” In order to gain all three Premier League points, the Scorpions must defeat Rye House by seven race points or more. Another glorious day of sunny weather is predicted for Friday, with temperatures in excess of 25 degrees Celsius. Such weather, although massively welcome, means hard work for Godfrey plus track men Graham Trollope and John Priestley. Godfrey added: “It’s nice for the fans to be able to come along and enjoy the speedway in the sunshine. “But it does present a challenge to the track team, in getting enough water into the track, and then getting the track to dry in time. “Without wanting to blow our own trumpet too much, but we did a great job with the track last Friday for the Newcastle meeting. “The previous two Fridays we’d had plenty of rain during the day, and natural watering is great for the track. Last Friday we had to do all the watering ourselves. There’s always an anxious time in the afternoon, when you think the track is maybe not drying as quickly as you’d expected. “But the end result last Friday against Newcastle was a track on which we staged a cracking meeting. “We’re always looking to prepare the best possible track at the Eddie Wright Raceway. We’re proud to have won the accolade of best track in the Premier League on several occasions, including last season.” The Scorpions complete the weekend by travelling to Peterborough on Sunday for the Premier League Fours. The club will be represented by the quartet of Josh Auty (last week’s last-heat hero against Newcastle), Ashley Birks, David Howe and Thomas Jørgensen, with Michael Palm Toft at reserve.
