Scunthorpe Scorpions 2020
lucifer sam replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Ah, with so much going on to prepare for the season, I don't think that had been top of the agenda. I'm pretty sure that start-time will be sometime between 5pm and 6.30pm so plan for a start-time between those two times. Next time I speak to Rob G, I'll ask him and then I'll update them on the website. Apologies. Incidentally, if you have any questions for the club, it's better to ask through the twitter rather than on here - we try to answer questions posed on twitter, but it's easy to lose them on here, where half the posts aren't even about Scunny. -

Scunthorpe Scorpions 2020
lucifer sam replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Puzzled by some of the negativity. After 18 months with odd challenge match, I can't wait for league speedway to return. Nice, exciting team put together for the new season - it will be so interesting to watch the progress of Jordan Palin. Bring it on! Somerset supporters would love to be in the position that Scunthorpe find themselves - with a new season ahead and with the Josh Auty testimonial lined up for March 2022, we're also pretty much guaranteed next season as well! -

It now seems to have changed. You can get in, but all ticket ranges show as "Tickets not available." -

Has Cardiff been cancelled? Just tried to order a ticket on the SGP website and it says "Page Not Found" when trying to order a ticket. -
Again, if everywhere is Tier 2 or lower by next Easter, then it's not a problem.
-
Good grief - talk about negative. Covid, while seperate to flu, is settling down into a seasonal pattern. The summer months next year should be OK. Under the current tier restrictions, Tier 1 is crowds up to 4000 and tier 2 crowds up to 2000. As long as everyone is down to tier 2 next Easter, then the British Speedway season can take place almost unaffected.

Yes, that's the public group, the other two are private to members.

John, I'm not getting your error messages. It's just bringing up the photo. You may need to join one of the groups, although the last one is public and should be visible to everyone.

Here's the one for the public group - it should work: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=3880006995364489&set=gm.3822221811129509

Ah, hold on, there's another group which is public. This one will be visible to everyone: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=3880006995364489&set=gm.3822221811129509

That's why I changed the link. Try the new one: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=3880001028698419&set=gm.4165363866826617 (Although you may have to join the group to view it).

Steve Worrall got that place in the 2017 SWC on merit, as demonstrated by his performance in the final - he was just about the only British rider who came out of that final with his head held high. Remember he was British No 2 that year as well. It's a shame he hasn't been quite the same rider since his broken leg at the start of 2018, because on his 2017 form, he would have been Lambert's natural partner after Woffy was hurt. As for this year, with Woffy out, our best two riders are Lambert and Bewley. There's then a situation that, as Bewley is under 21, it makes sense to line him up in that slot, since the U21 has to take a compulsory ride but the senior riders do not. So whoever was lined up at No 2 for GB was unlikely to get a ride. At which point, what's the sensible thing to do? Take along a rider at the end of their career? Or take along Kemp and Palin over to Poland to let them experience the atmosphere. My frustration last night was with the FIM and BSI for turning the meeting into a farce. Not the GB set up, who tracked our best two non-injured riders last night and therefore did what they are supposed to do. Who is on better current form than Lambert and Bewley? Name that rider.

Yeah, it was originally in May, on the Bank Holiday Friday (75th anniversary of D-Day) and Saturday. A summer date is a much more sensible date for the event next year. For starters, it's much more likely that a crowd will be allowed in the summer than October.
-
Oh dear, what was that! Surely it should have been postponed until tomorrow morning. Speedway really does itself no favours at times.

Just had a look on the SON website and I can't find where it says what time it would be re-staged on Sunday. That information appears to be missing.

A consequence of this year's condensed World Championship held over a span of just over five weeks was the doubling up of Grand Prix rounds - with one on a Friday and one on a Saturday. I think it's been a winner - it adds an extra element having two rounds over two days. It's an increased challenge for the riders, it doubles the entertainment provided, and it's fascinating to see how different two meetings on the same track with the same 16 riders can be! Also, it's a major selling point to travelling supporters, both from abroad and further afield in the same country. Now, I realise there are certain venues where it might be impractical. For example, the installed tracks such as Cardiff start to rut up badly towards the end of just 23 races - is 46 races worth the risk? But at stadiums with a permanent speedway track, I can only see positives. Two rounds at the likes of Torun and Wroclaw again? Yes please.

Old points system GP results
lucifer sam replied to rikard5150's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Interesting that the new system stretched out the field, particularly the top three from the rest. Last night, it meant the championship wasn't decided until the first semi-final instead of earlier in the meeting. But it could very easily go the other way. If you look at this year's European Championship, it went down to the last race. Had points been awarded on finishing positions, it would have been over as a contest after three rounds and Madsen would have won easily. I still prefer the old system. Had Bart finished on 8 rather than 9 points last night, then Woffy and Lindgren (both already qualified on 10 and 9 respectively) would have been looking at ways on how they could have eliminated Bart from the semis. Under a system where every point counts, that kind of manipulation was much harder. But we were one point away from it happening last night. -
Torun GP 2nd - 3rd October

Whoever was the pit lane interviewer in Prague should be brought back for the whole series next year. She's miles ahead of the one we've had for the six Polish rounds. -
Torun GP 2nd - 3rd October
lucifer sam replied to H20's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
How about Vaculik, Emil, A Laguta, Fricke and Nicki P? (Assuming the current order stays the same - if not, then Doyle and Madsen get a wildcard). That's not really bringing in any flesh blood, though. So Thomsen instead of Nicki P? -
That's a shame - I was going to come down on October 17th. But, nevertheless, well done to Plymouth for getting a couple of meetings on.

British final 2020
lucifer sam replied to Nassa10's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
For speedway, the government seem to have decided that the top two leagues are "Elite" and NDL downwards is "Grassroots". As other posters have said, it's largely down to whether most of the competitors at that level are deemed to be professional. -
