  1. Looking forward to this one. Neil, quick question, only requires a yes or no, has the "health and safety issue" been resolved? All the best Rob
  2. TWK, I thought you were knowledgeable about speedway in the 70s and 80s. Mick Fletcher was an Oxford Cheetah of 1980, 1981 and 1982. He took me around Cowley on his bike for my 8th birthday treat. All the best Rob
  3. Have Peterborough come forward with a proper and full explanation as yet? They're not going to come out of this smelling of roses whatever they say, but they do need to be honest and open with the fans if they want them to show up next week. All the best Rob
  4. Joe Owen, Steve Lawson, Tom Owen, John Jackson and Dave Perks. And Mick Fletcher of course. All the best Rob
  5. Really enjoyed the NL meeting yesterday - best racing for a NL meeting at Scunny in 2014. Well done to the Devon Demons on a job well done. Meanwhile, the Scunny boys had a few problems, but still battled away. Arron Mogridge did well on his return and would have scored 9, had he not been feeling his injury and been forced to pull up in Heat 10. Although it was the sensible thing to do; better than trying to do the four laps and falling off because of it. Once he's fully fit, which he will be for the next Stags' fixtures, he'll score decent points. Very impressive stuff from young Liam Sanderson. He looks like he's cracked it. Good win over Richard Andrews in Heat 14. All the best Rob
  6. Good meeting yesterday; not as good as Scunny vs Plymouth the week before, but still contained some good racing. I felt Scunny lost it at the beginning rather than the end - you can't give a team like Edinburgh a head start. Although Scunny edged back in front, with Cook out in 3 out of the last 5, Edinburgh had the advantage at the end. Scunny needed a points cushion after 10 races; that was never going to happen at 4-14 down after 3 races. R/R scored 3 paid 4 yesterday, including the TR! Nicolai Klindt will do much better than that. All the best Rob
  7. The rolling start was in Heat 13, not Heat 11, but agree with all the other points. That race should have been stopped, while the NL meeting contained several races stopped for no good reason. Ref had a shocker, then again this particular ref always does. All the best Rob
  8. Theo Pijper as a guest tonight (along with Mason Campton for TJ). All the best Rob
  9. Mimmo, Good post, although please note the Stags are no longer at Buxton on Sunday, May 11th. Scunthorpe agreed to move the fixture to August 24th to help other clubs. Meanwhile, I too will be travelling to one-off Stags meetings in 2014. In fact, I've already been to one - at Coventry. I have plans to go to several others as well. All the best Rob
  10. Parsloes, it's semi-professional. Professional suggests people can make a living out of it. I'd like to see you support your wife and your kids at £10 per point. All the best Rob
  11. But the Stags' team is not run in isolation. It's part of Scunthorpe Speedway. What I've found out as the last couple of years, from helping out at Scunny, is that it's run as a proper club, and it's run along proper lines i.e. the overall activities at the Eddie Wright Raceway are intended to make money to allow further investment into the stadium. There's no-one throwing away silly money at Scunthorpe. If other clubs want to spend more money than they've got coming in that's up to them, but Scunthorpe Speedway is run as a business. I think Rob Godfrey and all those involved should applauded by the way that Scunthorpe Speedway has been built up from nothing over the last 10 years. All the best Rob
  12. BUSY WEEK FOR SCORPIONS FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions entertain old rivals Plymouth Devils at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (3pm), in a busy week that sees the club involved in three Premier League meetings in four days. The Scorpions compete in two away meetings, at Ipswich tonight (Thursday) and Rye House on Saturday. The clash between the Scorpions and Devils at Scunthorpe on Sunday is followed by a National League fixture between the Scunthorpe Stags and the King’s Lynn Young Stars. The Scorpions are actually top of the Premier League table at the moment – having defeated reigning champions Somerset 46-44 in the only PL fixture so far this year! With another three PL fixtures in the next few days, the Scorpions have the chance to steal a march on their rivals. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve got a good chance of taking some good points from this week’s meetings. “I’m not going to set a points target, because it’s been very unpredictable so far this season. In the League Cup, nearly everyone dropped points at home at one point or another. “The Premier League promises to be a wide-open, competitive league in 2014, which is good for every team in the league. “We’ve gone for a horses-for-courses policy regarding the guests for the injured Anders Mellgren this week. “Leigh Lanham used to ride for Ipswich, so we’ve book him for the meeting there, and likewise with Pontus Aspgren on Rye House on Saturday.” At the moment, it seems likely that the Scorpions will utilise rider replacement for the visit of the Plymouth Devils on Sunday. R/R scored paid 10 against Newcastle at the EWR on Good Friday. Any Scunthorpe vs Plymouth clash always has plenty of spice. The two clubs battled for the silverware at Conference Level in both 2006 and 2007, with a Scorpions team led by Tai Woffinden - now the World Champion - and Josh Auty nearly always coming out on top. Sunday’s fixture sees the return of Plymouth’s Kalle Katajisto to the Eddie Wright Raceway, who suffered neck injuries at the track last season. Ben Barker is the No 1 for the Devils. Last year, the breathtaking duels between him and Josh Auty, when Barker was riding for Ipswich, had to been seen to be believed. Sunday’s adult admission price for the double-header is £17. It’s just £2 more than a single Premier League meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, for 15 extra heats of action. The circuit rightfully has won the award, several times, for being the best racetrack in the Premier League, so a full and exciting day of racing is ahead. Admission prices for Sunday: Adult: £17.00 Student/OAP: £15.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £39 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Sunday (English unless stated): FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Ben Barker, 2. Kyle Newman, 3. Roland Benko (Hungary), 4. Rasmus Jensen (Denmark), 5. Sam Simota (Czech Republic), 6. Kalle Katajisto (Finland), 7. Ben Reade. Scunthorpe Stags: 1. Steve Jones, 2. Sam Chapman, 3. Danno Verge, 4. R/R for Arron Mogridge , 5. Adam Kirby, 6. Liam Sanderson, 7. Ryan MacDonald (Scotland), 8. Tyler Govier. King’s Lynn Young Stars: 1. R/R for Lewis Rose, 2. 14. Any weather updates on this one? All the best Rob
  15. Because I was answering a question that you'd posed. As I've already said, I wasn't there on the night. All I could do is to check what happened and then write it up in the match report. All I've done is re-state what's in that match report, after your questions. Seems that's the wrong thing to do, as well. Oh well. Tsunami, next time, I'll just ignore you. (That's the end of my third and final post on this thread, unlike the countless ones of Tsunami. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black). All the best Rob EDIT: And to clarify The Abbot's subsequent post, yes it was something I was told. But there are certain people I know I can trust. If they have told me something happened, then it did.
  16. And in his book, Briggo told us what the P stood for. All the best Rob
  17. Which didn't actually happen, as the chain got jammed in the sprocket. Get it. All the best Rob
  18. If you paid attention in your maths lessons, rather than worrying how to ask out that girl, you'd know. All the best Rob
  19. I wasn't there myself on Sunday night, but I spoke to Dave Peet around 30 minutes after the conclusion of the meeting. He didn't want to go into print saying much about the referee's decisions in the meeting, simply to say he felt several of them were "questionable". However, he did confirm to me what happened to Thomas, with the chain getting caught up. That did happen. All the best Rob
  20. The infamous 2005 National League Pairs at Wimbledon took over 4 hours to compete. I dread to think how many re-runs that meeting contained. All the best Rob
