  1. Not sure about DOB, etc, but Layne is the brother of Faye Cupitt, the girlfriend of Tai Woffinden. All the best Rob
  2. But it was August that was the complete washout All the best Rob
  3. Although Coventry were one of Oxford's biggest rivals, I'm now getting quite angry how badly the club is being mis-managed. It's sad to see. Coventry were one of the big names in the sport. Plus I know a lot of their fans, and it's not fair on them. Coventry Speedway has become a joke. And that's sad. Very sad. All the best Rob
  4. So is it Priest or someone else? Can't believe we're discussing this at the start-time of the meeting All the best Rob
  5. Well, you certainly wouldn't have beat Scunny the other night without Ales Dryml. He was far better e.g. Lasse or Nicki B. All the best Rob
  6. DECISIVE MEETING AT EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY ON FRIDAY FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to all-but-mathematically clinch a place in the Premier League play-offs, by taking three points off rivals Peterborough Panthers at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm). Scunthorpe lost 44-45 in a tightly-contested encounter at Peterborough on Tuesday night, where they were a little unlucky not to win the meeting. However, the point gained for a narrow away loss moved the fifth-placed Scorpions just that little bit nearer to securing a place in the top six. Friday is well-and-truly a ‘seven pointer’, and its potential effect on the final league table could be significant. Three points for the Scorpions (for a win of seven points or more) would move them onto 43 points and mean either Workington or Peterborough would have to put together an impressive string of results to overhaul them in fifth place. The chances of both Peterborough and Workington BOTH going on such a run, to push the Scorpions down to seventh and out of the play-off places would be somewhat unlikely. However, four points to the Panthers (for an away win of seven points or more), and the Scorpions would still to left with work to do from their home and away meetings with Berwick (September 6 at Shielfield Park and September 9 at the Eddie Wright Raceway) and the visit to Rye House on September 13. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey enthused: “I think it’s going to be an absolute belter. The results between Scunthorpe and Peterborough this year have been 46-43, 46-44 and 45-44. Both teams ride the other team’s racetrack so well. “Both teams need the points from this meeting. I’m sure Peterborough will be fired up for the meeting, and I can assure everyone that our lads will be.” Since the reintroduction of the play-offs in 2012, the Premier League has become all about peaking at the right time, and Godfrey feels this is starting to happen with his team. “We’re now moving into the business end of the season”, he said. “We put in a shaky home performance to Redcar at the Eddie Wright Raceway last Wednesday in what was our first complete meeting for weeks, after the rain interrupted us for a few weeks. “But since then our riders have performed well - winning in fine style at Redcar, so nearly taking a point at Workington, beating Workington at home with some comfort, and being unfortunate not to win at Peterborough as well. “I feel we’re moving into form just at the right time. “Ash (Birks) has now kicked on, and he’s going to be a real asset down at reserve, just as David (Howe) was last month, and Thomas (Jorgensen) and Ryan (Douglas) were before that.” There are 24 heats of action in total, with a nine-heat second half, including a Midland Development League match between Castleford and Belle Vue. Admission prices for Friday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Friday (English unless stated): FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. 7. More like a fifth or a sixth full. Meanwhile, there were abount 10 of us dotted along the back striaght. A cracking meeting between Peterborough and Scunny... watched by next to nobody! Incidentally, why was Peterborough vs Scunny taken off this thread title? It seems to be the match most of us are discussing. All the best Rob
  8. I would say it was one of the best meetings I've seen this season yesterday, but actually it was two of the best meetings, as the Scunny Stags meeting was superb as well. Fantastic 30 heats of speedway action - the Eddie Wright Raceway is quite simply the best racetrack in the country. David Howe's ride in Heat 15 was simply awesome. All the best Rob
  9. But David Howe is currently at reserve for Scunny, despite being 2nd in our 2014 averages - due to meetings from last year still counting!! It should be 16 meetings max for rolling averages. All the best Rob
  10. Since when has Coventry had a curfew? I'd known second halves finish at 11.20pm. All the best Rob
  11. Good grief... it looks like they're JUST started the second meeting... gonna be a l-o-n-g night All the best Rob
  12. I think Workington put on their website that they'd requested a later deadline, but it had been rejected - hence all their double-headers etc. All the best Rob
  13. Deadline is September 14th. All the best Rob
  14. It was a bit of surprise when prior to Heat 15, the announcer (I quite like him, is he a Geordie?, sounds like it) asked who was supporting the two teams - plenty of noise for Scunny, hardly none for Redcar. The Redcar fans do seem to be on a bit of a downer. One of those meetings where the lack of racing was compensated by the closness in the scoreline. All the best Rob
  15. Fantastic win for the Scorpions - takes off a bit of pressure, now we just have to hold at home and we should be in the play-offs. The lead keep on exchanging hands, but the 5-1 in Heat 14 plus a 3-3 in Heat 15 secured the win. All the best Rob
  16. Weather forecast now looks much better for this. My annual trip up to Redcar - and hoepfully a nice away win for the Scorpions All the best Rob
  17. Haven't heard anything to the contrary as yet. Matty Orange seems to have completed two meetings last night, despite his finger injury, so hopefully he's OK. All the best Rob
  18. KIDS GO FREE ON SUNDAY! ALL CHILDREN aged 17 or under will admitted free into Sunday’s (August 31) double-header at the Eddie Wright Raceway. The 30-heat feast of action sees the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions take on the Workington Comets in a vital Premier League clash (start-time 3pm), followed by a Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Stags vs Stoke Potters National League encounter. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’re hoping families will take advantage of this offer and come along to the Eddie Wright Raceway, to see a whole afternoon of thrilling speedway action. “We’re hoping to see some brand new faces to enjoy the only professional motorsport with no brakes and no gears, while also realising this may appeal to fans travelling from further afield. “We’re proud that we have one of the best racetracks in the country, and 30 races around here are likely to contain plenty of excitement. “The meeting against Workington is a vital meeting for our play-off qualification hopes, and could easily turn out to be a cracker.”

  21. This is what the ostrich brigade just don't get. The play-offs bring in the crowds. The Young Shield brought in one man and his dog. And yet some people want to go back to the latter. All the best Rob
  22. HOME MEETING AGAINST REDCAR STARTS MASSIVE WEEK FOR SCORPIONS IT’S A MAKE-OR-BREAK WEEK for the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions, with every Premier League meeting taking on the importance of a cup final – starting with the visit of the Redcar Bears to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Wednesday evening (7.30pm). With the Scorpions currently in a precarious sixth place in the Premier League table - the last qualifying position for the championship play-offs - the team are involved in four meetings in five days against the two teams snapping at their heels! The Scorpions’ schedule for this week is: Wednesday August 27th (7.30pm) – Home vs Redcar Thursday August 28th (7.30pm) – Away vs Redcar Saturday August 30th (8.30pm approx. – second half) – Away vs Workington Sunday August 31st (3pm) – Home vs Workington Somerset, Edinburgh, Ipswich and Berwick have all safely qualified for the play-offs. Newcastle sit in fifth place with 33 points, with 26 out of 28 Premier League meetings completed. Then come the sixth-placed Scorpions with 31 points from 18 meetings. Redcar are seventh with 28 points from 23 meetings, while Workington are ninth with only 21 points, but have a large number of meetings in hand, with 13 meetings staged and 15 to be raced before the play-off cut-off date of September 14th. The mathematics are complicated with so many meetings still to be staged, but one thing is certain – the Scorpions can’t afford to slip up at home to the teams chasing them in the table. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “This is the most important week of the season for us so far. In particular, the two home meetings are absolutely massive. “We can’t afford either Redcar or Workington leaving here with a win. “Earlier on in the season, we’d done more fixtures than anyone else, and it was up for everyone else to catch us. The boot is now on the other foot. We’ve got meetings in hand on most other teams and it’s up to us to win those – especially the home meetings.” Redcar’s visit to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Wednesday is a clash re-arranged from Bank Holiday Monday, when it was rained off. Wednesday evening has been selected as the new date, due to the favourable forecast on that night. The Scorpions will be without No 1 Nicolai Klindt, who is in action in Denmark. Godfrey explains: “Our fixture on Wednesday is a re-arranged fixture, which means we have a facility to cover for Nicolai. We will be using rider replacement in his absence, with everyone able to take a ride for him. “Nicolai injured his scaphoid in Denmark last week, but it seems he’s OK riding with it. We’ll see how he goes in Denmark on Wednesday. As long as he’s fine after that, he’ll be joining us at Redcar on Thursday. “Rider replacement at home to Redcar should work well. Thomas Jorgensen is now fitting fit again after the illness that struck him earlier in the month, and everyone could see how sharp Josh Auty looked in his two rides, before the Sheffield meeting was called off. “Josh has come back from his enforced break due to appendicitis in good shape. He’s looking more relaxed and happier. “We realise that Redcar are going to come all guns blazing at us on Wednesday, they need to beat us home and away. We won’t under-estimate them and we need our fans in good voice behind us. This is like a cup final for us. We must win this meeting”, Godfrey concluded. Admission prices for Wednesday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 NOTE REGARDING ADMISSION PRICES FOR WEDNESDAY FOR THOSE WITH A VALID SCUNTHORPE v SHEFFIELD RE-ADMISSION TICKET: Admission prices on Wednesday for those with a valid re-admission ticket from the abandoned Scunthorpe v Sheffield meeting from August 15th will be as follows: Adult: £13.00 (£2 deduction) Student/OAP: £11.00 (£2 deduction) Child (10 - 17): £3.00 (£2 deduction) Family Ticket £29 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-16) (£6 deduction) Expected teams for Wednesday (English unless stated): FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1.
