Inevitable result last night... Connor covered for Theo at reserve, but the joint absence of Thomas and Tero proved too much to bear. That's not taking anything from Leicester, who were superb last night and may well have beaten a full-strength Scorpions. Still some superb racing on display. Heat 13 was good, but Heat 14 was even better - with one Scorpion battling with Lions for two laps, and the other taking over the battle on the last two laps, resulting in a near dead-heat for second place.

Scunthorpe Scorpions 2020
lucifer sam replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Scunthorpe moved back to Fridays first, Glasgow moved to Saturdays and then Fridays if you recall. I know that Scunthorpe have second priority. There is such a thing as co-operation between promotions, and Scunthorpe agreed to let both Glasgow and Redcar ride Scunthorpe at home on a Friday this year. You will note that Redcar's home meeting with Scorpions was also in the fixture list as a Friday all along, despite Scorpions having priority. -
Scunthorpe Scorpions 2020
lucifer sam replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Due to a mistake in the original fixture list. At which point, Scunthorpe decided to stick with it, because it allowed the British Youth Championship Round to be spread over both that and the following week's Edinburgh meeting. Scunthorpe surrendered Friday nights so both Glasgow and Redcar could stick to their normal race-night (co-operation between managements), but the Glasgow one was rained off and ended up on a Sunday. -

Brilliant news! -
RIP Dave.

Not for any of the Friday night tracks involved. Edinburgh are the ones likely to stick to Fridays and even they have the capacity to run on a Saturday, if needed. I don't think the other three tracks have restrictions to race-nights at all.

1. Edinburgh 2. Scunthorpe 3. Glasgow 4. Redcar is the pecking order, I believe. Although another factor is whether the team above in the league table wants first or second leg at home. In that case, they may have to move off race-night to accommodate that. That's probably not an issue, since the four Fridays teams set to take place in the play-offs are almost in reverse order in the table to their priority. I think the first-round (quarter-finals) ideally need to be held on the weekend of October 1st-3rd and the semi-finals the weekend after that, to allow time for a couple of rain offs somewhere.

Shortened season, so couldn't be fitted in this year. Assume they will return in 2022.

Unless it rains... then anyone can beat Poole. Tail is far too vulnerable when track is wet Second easiest win of the season for Scunny last night, after a thrashing of Kent, before Batchelor joined the team. Pirates nothing special and can be beaten! No one clear favourite in this league - if I was forced to pick one, I'd pick Leicester. Good to see you last night and hope to see you back in the play-offs, so you can get a proper appreciation of the superb Scunny track.

Cheers Shaleshifter - good to see you last night. When you're next coming up, get off the M1 at junction 21A and then go to Scunny via the A46 and A15. Will save you loads of time rather than staying on the M1, especially when travelling up on Friday. Glad you and Shovvy made it in time for Heat 1 tonight. Hope you had a decent trip home. Been home since just before 1.30am (didn't leave the stadium until 10.30pm - like to have a chat in the bar afterwards), and just finished writing the match report for the website.

07/09/21 1830 Kent v Scunthorpe (Champ)
lucifer sam replied to Old Crusader's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
By jumping every start, I assume you mean trapping - because Broc Nicol wasn't rolling (with the exception of Heat 3). It's not an offence to make good starts. As for the final race, yes he did move, but that was triggered by Batchelor moving inside him first. Batchelor didn't get a warning. Mind you, this came from a ref who also penalised Gilkes in Heat 11 for touching the tapes, when I'm not sure if he did, to be honest! Disappointing way for the evening to end from a Scunthorpe perspective and a shame because it was a great night of speedway until then. Would have been interesting to see if Nicol could have got the better of Batchelor and Nicholls in Heat 15, but thanks to the ref, we never got to find out! -
Poole Pirates 2021
lucifer sam replied to Pirates Of Poole's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Such sad news. Bob was a lovely chap and a huge speedway fan and at Oxford neatly every week in 2007 when Brendan Johnson was riding for us. Saw him at Poole just a couple of weeks ago for the Poole v Scunny meeting. RIP Bob. -
Scunny v Leicester 3.9.21
lucifer sam replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
With Stefan Nielsen in the side, Pirates would have been in an excellent position to take advantage of a Scorpions' side missing Tero Aarnio and Jordan Palin, arguably the best two Scunny riders at the EWR. Without Stef's almost guaranteed double-point score from reserve, you might struggle. Are you coming up next Friday, Steve? Looked for you at Birmingham on Wednesday, but couldn't see you. -
Scunny v Leicester 3.9.21

And Mountain scored 10+1 for Newcastle. With 8 out of 11 teams riding tonight and some riders turning down bookings, it's horses for courses and both teams have picked a rider who scored well at the EWR earlier this season. Intriguing meeting, with neither side at full strength. We'll see how it goes. -

Poole v Newcastle 25th August 2021
lucifer sam replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Bob, you should have gone over to the Isle Of Wight for either the handicap meeting last week or the last leg of the 3TT this week. Two superb meetings. Sounds like I got the half decent meeting at Poole last week - tonight sounds poor. -
I could, but then there would be more than five riders in the list
