How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Paulco replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I can understand the cost aspect of putting young people off , but it doesn't seem to be as big an issue in other sports . When I go to watch ice hockey at Braehead it costs me £18 , if I take a child it costs £14 for the child . So not really much of a diffence in price . The Braehead Clan matches are regularly sold out , with as many kids there as adults . So get the product right ,as they do in ice hockey, and the people will go . If we had tracks prepared fairly and properly , then speedway could still be the most enthralling sporting spectacle out there . -
How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Paulco replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Might not be to everybodies liking , but when promoting a meeting , speedway needs to concentrate on the controversial side . In 2011 I went to a meeting in Poland , Gniezno v Bydgoszcz . The home side had Scott Nicholls in their side and the away team had Emil Sayfutinov in theirs . All over the town of Gneizno on the lead up to the meeting , plastered on every available wall or lamppost , was posters with a picture of their Cardiff difference of opinion the year before . We need to big up any kind of potential controversy -
Is the term " shutting the door on " now classed as a dangerous move ?
-
Would never have classed him as dangerous , but I remember Tom Owen being kicked out of a meeting at Paisley in the mid seventies . Went to a Stoke v Glasgow meeting about 7 or 8 years ago . Claus Vissing's first year in British speedway and he got excluded about three times that night , twice putting David McAllan in the fence . I remember Jesper Olsen's first season as a Glasgow Tiger at Shawfield , he stopped the first aiders getting bored

If it's true about Klindt , then I'm surprised Rye got in touch with Etheridge . Surely the way Victor Palovaara rode at Rye House , when Glasgow won there last July , makes him a better option as a 5 pointer than an untried Etheridge would have been .

There was a football manager in Scotland ( St Mirren's) who claimed he knew better than the club's fans as they didn't have a clue . He was sacked a fortnight after making those comments . We can only hope karma visits Mr Cook at some point .
-
Exactly , and there's the various average reductions . There's Max's for stepping out of the NL , Sam's for trying to punch the Evil Dane , Kevin's for actually trying last season , Ryan's for being a dick and Erik's for having a speedway rider for a dad
-
True , there's loads of riders still available

My post never printed , is there sinister forces at work ?

Tyson Fury should have won it for upsetting all the bleeding hearts

Any Takers For The Elite League?
Paulco replied to Hamish McRaker's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Even though people seem to think Glasgow could afford to go Elite , I cant see it being viable . We have Edinburgh , Berwick , Workington and Newcastle , all within two to three hours drive away and meetings against those clubs always get a decent away following turning up at Ashfield . Belle Vue would be our local derby in the Elite League -
Predict The Final 2016 Pl Table!?
Paulco replied to uwjxovlxokzm's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
On paper maybe , but if the two reserves continue where they left off in their first NL season , then who knows what might happen . Too be honest every side looks much of a muchness so far . If Newcastle sign the right rider to complete their team they could be contenders even if they look weak at reserve . With Kasper Lykke starting at reserve , Rye House look solid as do Workington . Will Simon Stead come back as good as ever from his injury , will Charlie Gjedde ? That will determine where Sheffield and Plymouth finish . Will Jonas Andersen build on his debut season at Redcar ? Will Berwick's team of veterans have one more season in them ? Will Peterboorough pull a number 1 out of the bag from somewhere ? Or will it end up another domestic squabble between Glasgow and Edinburgh again ? Agreed Scunthorpe probably look the weakest septet , but the side I like the look of most is Ipswich , Danny King is a superb number 1 and if James Serjeant continues the progress he showed with us last year , Ipswich will be contenders at last . For what it's worth I think Ipswich Workington Newcastle Glasgow Rye House Edinburgh Redcar Plymouth Somerset Sheffield Peterborough Berwick Scunthorpe -
Yes I would be surprised if the Monarchs didn't join Scotland's big club in the play offs

Not any longer , the day of the smug is coming to an end
-
About what ? Anyway sports fans , I am a wee teensy bit pissed tonight . We've got hunners and hunners of money apparently , sooooooooooooooooooooo why not become a Tiger if yer good enough . Barker might have went to Peterborough , Worrall might have went to geordieland .................but once the Wonga started to fly ....................they are Tiggers and we are going to be awesome next year , so get it round you Edinburgh
-
At least that is sensible , I've long thought that foreign riders coming in on a 5 point average shouldn't be given an average that dips below that .
-
Going to be a long three months until we get underway methinks . The team has been named , so we've discussed that , us and that other mob have been having wee pots at each other , now we're onto Buckfast .
-
Depends on the vintage of the Bucky
-
Oh the irony
-
Of course you don't haha
-
Would agree with that , though it seems the type of track that you really need to ride regularly to be adept at it . Riders who become home specialists while riding for the Monarchs become less effective when they move clubs and return with their new side .

That was disbelief

Are There Any Characters Within The Sport Anymore?
Paulco replied to steve roberts's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yes I remember that , that was his speciality , winding up the opposition . But that added to the occasion -
I'll get the one with Shane Parker waving at him as he flies past him at Ashfield
