  1. Oh well , we came , we saw and we disappointed . But credit Sheffield , they were far too good from the gate for our boys . You expect Stead and possibly Garrity to be strong on their own shale , but Bates and Berge ( git lol ) were very good . Disappointing night for us , but at least we had a cracking race to watch in heat 15 as Barker ended Berge's maximum hopes . Maybe we're not as good as we think we are , and wee reminders like we got here is never a bad thing .
  2. Possibly , but Somerset is never the easiest place to go to and once again they are a very strong side . We started really strongly , but Somerset have a knack of getting better as a meeting progresses , and so it again proved . But I wasn't too despondent , the racing was very good , especially Paul Starke in heat 15 . He richly deserved his man of the match award in the bar afterwards . One note of caution though for Mr Starke , when we were down last season , Leigh Lanham won that award haha . Anyway the result was the only downside of my visit , we stayed at the Crossways inn in West Huntspill , and the beer in there is brilliant . Agree about the Bristol Bridge pub , that place is getting very run down and think it's on it's last legs , decent pint of Bombadier in it though . Nice to see the Newport contingent there , Dai Lager and Tanya , and Pirate Nick introduced me to BSF royalty , nice to meet you Mr Shovlar .
  3. No I'm not doing them , usually there is a Sheffield texter
  4. Friday the 13th for the Rebels I hope Anyway see you guys down there after I've been to the Bristol Bridge
  5. Think I've got the right start time . Anyway one day before the meeting and no thread yet ? This should be a belter by two definite play off candidates . New Barrack Tavern for drinks first me thinks
  6. Aye true , paid maximum for Lunna and 6 plus 2 for Ayres is very welcome , but they wont come close to those scores again this season in all likliehood
  7. Think you can forget about Cook now , to an outsider it always looked like basically an abuse of the guest system waiting to happen . What about Davy Watt ? Would he not now be eligible to drop down ?
  8. What went wrong was basically two riders , Auty and Davies , looking shadows of the riders that we know they can be . Two second strings , Wilkinson and Morris , who are basically reserves , trying manfully to cope with home riders much better than they are . A substandard foreigner , riding at reserve , clearly not up to it , and a young lad just setting out in the sport . Only Ryan Douglas gave any resistance to the home team's onslaught .
  9. Was watching the Aberdeen comeback in the Horseshoe bar , till I got bored and went to the speedway
  10. Mr Maximum at Glasgow , Charlie Monk . How he was never a World Finalist is one of speedway's great mysteries
  11. I agree , Scunthorpe did for speedway today what a talentless singer with a leek hanging out his back pocket , did for music
  12. What has happened to Josh Auty ? Three or Four years ago I watched him being the most entertaining rider on show as him and Ricky Ashworth won the PL Pairs at Somerset for Sheffield . Today I watched the same rider ride like a complete novice .
  13. That was pretty lamentable . I don't care how strong the home side are , 19 points in 15 heats of speedway is pathetic . I've seen second halfers attack the track with more determination than some of the Scunthorpe riders today . The worst visiting performance to Glasgow since a Milton Keynes side on a wet Wednesday October night in 1993 . And at least they had Troy Butler scoring double figures . Ryan Douglas apart , the Scorpions were truly dreadful . Big payday for our boys , but meetings like that does the sport no good at all
  14. Apparently it's only opposition riders that transgress the rules
  15. Warned ???????? He should be complimented on his gating prowess . Referees are far too fussy these days , time to bin this riders sitting still nonsense and go back to if a rider doesn't break the tapes , then it's a good start .
  16. We're promised 21 degrees on Sunday , be shorts and t-shirts on the Charlie Monk stand . Thankfully the wee shack sells beer now , saves the exhausting walk to the fourth bend
  17. Nice cordial atmosphere in the bar after the meeting last night , as both sets of fans seemed reasoably happy after 15 heats of entertaining speedway . Edinburgh fans , just happy to get a meeting on , were happy as their team got a morale boosting win in the derby and we were pretty pleased with the solid performance that our team gave , safe in the knowledge we had already qualified . We never really recovered from the disastrous 0-5 in heat 2 which gave the Monarchs an early 9-2 lead . Every time we chipped away at their lead , they responded with a 5-1 to pull a little ahead again . But there was enough exciting speedway to keep the fans entertained , notably heat 13 which was a cracker . I disagree with Pogo about Ben being a bit naughty in staying down , it looked to us that he couldn't free his foot from under the bike in time , irrelevent anyway as the ref awarded the race . For us Lawson and Worral were excellent , Aaron was a wee bit below his usual Armadale form and Ben never looked quick on the track . Lunna and Garcia worked really hard for their points and it's all a learning curve for Danny . Edinburgh just about got away with their long tail , the heat 2 gift gave Clegg his only points . Masters and Riss look worthy successors to the Cook/Sedgmen opening partnership and Wolbert will do a solid job , at home anyway . Fisher doesn't look the rider he once was , but he did well to win the crucial heat 13 . All in all an enjoyable night out at Armadale , hopefully we can find that little bit extra when it really matters in the league .
  18. As are the Scunny riders too , makes sense don't you think ?
  19. Is the new stadium at Belle Vue real , or a myth ?
  20. Give Victor time , he had some decent meetings for us last season , notably on the smaller tracks like Rye House and Edinburgh
  21. I'm assuming Grondal does better on his home track because yesterday at Glasgow he was dreadful , seemingly downing tools in a couple of his races
  22. Too many to mention Sidney . There will never be another club man as loyal as Steve Lawson . 1978 till 1992 and he virtually carried Glasgow single handedly through the eighties . When we turned up at an away track and the poor announcer was trying to introduce the sides to the crowd and all you could hear was the Stevie Lawson chant .
  23. The 1981 World Final at Wembley , or the final of that international series which happened around the early to mid seventies . From a personal point of view , reliving the 1994 KO Cup final where Glasgow beat Edinburgh , or the second leg of the 1991 KO Cup final at Arena Essex with Glasgow holding on for a 3-3 in heat 15 this time
